Do not worry about your hamster "eating" the toilet paper. For one they aren't eating it, they have *cheek pouches* that they store bedding, food, etc in so they can bring it back to the nest and if your hamster does ingest any toilet paper it's not going to die- toilet paper can easily be digested and dissolves very easy.

Sometimes the glove is more intimidating than the hand its self. It could have looked like a hawk or predator. While normal hands are almost pink and very squishy and more inviting.

I've been nipped a few times but it's usually tied up with their sleep or if you're hands smell like food. Best thing to do is move slowly they have really poor eyesight.

I've had my hamster for 6 days now, he seems to be getting used to his surroundings and when we first got him he was coming up to us and sniffing our hands. The last couple of days he seems to be more timid and enjoys his wheel or just sitting in the tubes that surround his cage. He's not biting on the bars or anything anymore so I don't think he's stressed but I'm worried that he's just decided that he hates me 😂 I will definitely be trying the bath tub method and hopefully that gets him to trust me more

Yesterday was the first day I got to bond with him a little and today he was more active and approachable/curious. Thank you! You made me realise my mistake, I was very fearful with my second hamster and so I guess he picked up on it as he got angry and grumpy easily. Mine does the same and I have a Detolf cage with shitloads of bedding. He just hides in his bedding, in the furthest place away from me, whenever I try to do something with food 😭
Maybe you can try experimenting with different foods like cauliflower or broccoli! Maybe you’ll find his favourite food and than, you can use it to tame him
My hamster is almost 2 years old. I never bonded with him and would go weeks without even taking him out. I’ve just realized how much of a better pet owner I could’ve been, and I’m wanting to bond with him now.
I had a hamster and he never fully tamed. he actually only bit me maybe 3 times total and would let me pick him up and pet him but he didn't seem soothed by it or interested in me. i made his cage bigger but it still could have been better i think and also he had a bigger wheel to run in for his back. i put him in the hamster ball for maybe an hour twice a week but sometimes he would just sit there for a really long while and never go anywhere. i tried all sorts of stuff with him. i tried making a giant playpen with a plastic tub but he never enjoyed that. i got a bunch of tubes and made mazes for him but he would run through it so fast that it was only fun for maybe 15 mins. i also would feed him little pieces of apple and pears and such almost daily. also made him a sand bath that he used. anyways i just was really depressed the entire time i had him and ended up just giving him away for free to someone else along most of his stuff. i felt bad but he was already a year old and maybe he was able to bond with that family more than me. asvsdvsvas idk thanks for listening. also i got him as a gift but ultimately he came from petco so that may have been part of the problem. -you're prob dead by now, Einstein. i hope hamster heaven is a bunch more fun for you than earth was and i'm sorry i couldn't do more for you. love always, emily.
Awe I get that, I have two hamsters from pet co right now. One is really tamed and loves being held while the other is exactly how you explained but I havn’t given up yet, the other hamster cuddles all the time so that helps ( they grew up together so they are bonded )
@@angelinalucero1028 tissue is perfectly fine as permanent bedding, it's just paper the same as carefresh and things :) it's not good for burrowing is it's only downfall so it's more used as nesting material

I am definitely going to use this process! I barely got my Syrian hamster three days ago : her fur pattern is dominant spot, mainly white with black spots :) she is very kind; I did the toilet paper scent thing yesterday night… this morning i saw that she used it as bedding. And then tonight she is already awake, so i was scatter feeding her , she came up to my hand and took a seed. I continued to hand feed her and soon after she let me pet her! Her name is Misty :) She is super kind and a quick learner :D

ik I’m five years late but i’m gonna update you along the way day 1: I just got him and I’m so excited I built it’s cage and put everything it needed in it’s cage it hasn’t used it’s wheel and it’s tunnels but she has sniffed around🤪 day 2: she bit me so I used some gloves to clean up her cage. She got on her wheel but hasn’t used it fully and got in her tunnel but didn’t go all the way up.😔 day 3: she has calmed down a lot more and I think she went up her tunnels because I could see a spot when she borrowed. but..... she is borrowing under her wheel and I don’t know how to stop her. She still bites but is a little calmer I think were making progress. OMG SHE TOOK THE TREAT WITHOUT BITING MY GLOVE😁☺️ day 5: I used the bath tub method and it worked she only bit me once and I got to pick her up and hold her. When I put her back in her cage I laid a treat on my palm and she bit me but in the bath tub she was really good☺️😄

does it hurt when they bite? i have had mine for a while now and i take him out all the time in a play pen thing that i have and i pick him up with a blanket over my hands all the time but i’m still nervous he would bite me if i picked him up with my bare hands. he’s is a teddy bear btw
@@bellab437 I’m not sure mine Drew a little blood but it doesn’t hurt as bad as I think. it’s kinda of like a little pinch. If you overthink it then it’s gonna hurt a lot more but if you just relax it won’t hurt as bad. Mine wouldn’t let me pick it up and it’s cage but I could pick it up outside of the cage I had to use gloves to pick it up inside the cage. So it really just depends on your hamster and how long you’ve had them.
I’ve only got my Syrian hamster yesterday and I feel she’s used to my smell already and when I put my hand in she crawls in my hand without a treat or problem💗

As soon as I got my hamster he was so calm and affectionate. He is so curious and every time I get him out he shows no signs of stress at all. And the first day I got him out, he ate out of my hand 🥰
Remember to not shake. Be confident that the hamster won't bite you. They can sense that your worried and will be scared and bite. Also I recommend rubbing your hands in their shavings so that you smell like them and they probably won't bite. Finally they may be thinking that your hand is the treat so put the treat at the end of your hand so that's the first thing they smell

I've currently got a new hamster - A 3 month old Syrian, only had her a few days. Things were going well, with her accepting treats from me and sniffing my hands, so I brought her out onto the bed. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of offering her a treat, then lying my hand out flat on the bed.. She waddled onto my hand, sniffed my finger, and went for a very delicate bite. Pretty sure she was confused, since it wasn't a hard bite like a proper bite.. More of a "Is.. This food? Smells like food. Let me taste test.." haha.
If you want a higher chance of taming your hamster easier then I reccomend that when you get your hamster , walk up to one of the cage's and wait,if one is brave enough to walk toward you then put your hand on the cage and if it sniffs get that one :D Thx for reading through my comment, stay sweet!

I just got my hamster today (winter white) his name is pepper I'll update every day for a few days Day one: he ate a treat from my hand, I stuck my hand out and he crawled on it but he bit my thumb and It tickled, he doesn't exactly trust me but we're working on it Second day: he kept me up all night on his wheel and I'm thinking of getting him a silent one, he crawled a little bit on my hand and sniffed me but was hesitant, I'll update again tommorow 3rd day: he climbed on my hand and stayed there, he tried out his ball and he loved it
Luckily, my hamster was pretty tame when I adopted him. Thankfully, I've had him for over 6 weeks and he's never bitten me. Also, a new (huge 460 sq.in) cage exention (the old one was fine and met requirements but I felt bad, he loved it anyway) coming tomorrow. (It connects to the old one, so more floor space! And now it's not all broken up!)

I've had my hamster for 6 days now, he seems to be getting used to his surroundings and when we first got him he was coming up to us and sniffing our hands. The last couple of days he seems to be more timid and enjoys his wheel or just sitting in the tubes that surround his cage. He's not biting on the bars or anything anymore so I don't think he's stressed but I'm worried that he's just decided that he hates me 😂 I will definitely be trying the bath tub method and hopefully that gets him to trust me more
I tried to follow the tissue one, my hamster has been bringing it everywhere he go, and its now on his food bowl

i know this is an old video, ive had my hamster for a year now. is it normal that i let her run around on my floor whilst i’m in my room? she doesn’t do anything, all she does is run around and i’ll sit on the floor and she climbs all over me. There is no where she can go to escape or run away. I have the biggest bond ever with her.

Have been watching your videos nonstop for the past week. I got my first Hamster on December 1st and he's already my baby. Yesterday was the first day I got to bond with him a little and today he was more active and approachable/curious. I let him have some kale this afternoon when I finished my college classes and he loved that.

Thank you! You made me realise my mistake, I was very fearful with my second hamster and so I guess he picked up on it as he got angry and grumpy easily. My first hamster was very sweet as I put a lot of trust into her as I was younger and more carefree. I’m glad I know now so I can be a better hamster mummy. Thanks again. X

Maybe your cage is too small. The minimum is 80 cm by 50 cm (or 450 square inches) 🤗
Mine does the same and I have a Detolf cage with shitloads of bedding. He just hides in his bedding, in the furthest place away from me, whenever I try to do something with food 😭
Maybe you can try experimenting with different foods like cauliflower or broccoli! Maybe you’ll find his favourite food and than, you can use it to tame him

My hamster is almost 2 years old. I never bonded with him and would go weeks without even taking him out. I’ve just realized how much of a better pet owner I could’ve been, and I’m wanting to bond with him now.
I had a hamster and he never fully tamed. he actually only bit me maybe 3 times total and would let me pick him up and pet him but he didn't seem soothed by it or interested in me. i made his cage bigger but it still could have been better i think and also he had a bigger wheel to run in for his back. i put him in the hamster ball for maybe an hour twice a week but sometimes he would just sit there for a really long while and never go anywhere. i tried all sorts of stuff with him. i tried making a giant playpen with a plastic tub but he never enjoyed that. i got a bunch of tubes and made mazes for him but he would run through it so fast that it was only fun for maybe 15 mins. i also would feed him little pieces of apple and pears and such almost daily. also made him a sand bath that he used.
anyways i just was really depressed the entire time i had him and ended up just giving him away for free to someone else along most of his stuff. i felt bad but he was already a year old and maybe he was able to bond with that family more than me.

Awe I get that, I have two hamsters from pet co right now. One is really tamed and loves being held while the other is exactly how you explained but I havn’t given up yet, the other hamster cuddles all the time so that helps ( they grew up together so they are bonded )

I am definitely going to use this process! I barely got my Syrian hamster three days ago : her fur pattern is dominant spot, mainly white with black spots :) she is very kind; I did the toilet paper scent thing yesterday night… this morning i saw that she used it as bedding. And then tonight she is already awake, so i was scatter feeding her , she came up to my hand and took a seed. I continued to hand feed her and soon after she let me pet her! Her name is Misty :)

ik I’m five years late but i’m gonna update you along the way
day 1: I just got him and I’m so excited I built it’s cage and put everything it needed in it’s cage it hasn’t used it’s wheel and it’s tunnels but she has sniffed around🤪
day 2: she bit me so I used some gloves to clean up her cage. She got on her wheel but hasn’t used it fully and got in her tunnel but didn’t go all the way up.😔
day 3: she has calmed down a lot more and I think she went up her tunnels because I could see a spot when she borrowed. but..... she is borrowing under her wheel and I don’t know how to stop her. She still bites but is a little calmer I think were making progress. OMG SHE TOOK THE TREAT WITHOUT BITING MY GLOVE😁☺️
day 5: I used the bath tub method and it worked she only bit me once and I got to pick her up and hold her. When I put her back in her cage I laid a treat on my palm and she bit me but in the bath tub she was really good☺️😄

does it hurt when they bite? i have had mine for a while now and i take him out all the time in a play pen thing that i have and i pick him up with a blanket over my hands all the time but i’m still nervous he would bite me if i picked him up with my bare hands. he’s is a teddy bear btw
@@bellab437 I’m not sure mine Drew a little blood but it doesn’t hurt as bad as I think. it’s kinda of like a little pinch. If you overthink it then it’s gonna hurt a lot more but if you just relax it won’t hurt as bad. Mine wouldn’t let me pick it up and it’s cage but I could pick it up outside of the cage I had to use gloves to pick it up inside the cage. So it really just depends on your hamster and how long you’ve had them.

Remember to not shake. Be confident that the hamster won't bite you. They can sense that your worried and will be scared and bite. Also I recommend rubbing your hands in their shavings so that you smell like them and they probably won't bite. Finally they may be thinking that your hand is the treat so put the treat at the end of your hand so that's the first thing they smell
Use old pillow or blanket so parents won't get mad at you... 😂😂 I am the parent watching this

I've currently got a new hamster - A 3 month old Syrian, only had her a few days. Things were going well, with her accepting treats from me and sniffing my hands, so I brought her out onto the bed. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of offering her a treat, then lying my hand out flat on the bed.. She waddled onto my hand, sniffed my finger, and went for a very delicate bite. Pretty sure she was confused, since it wasn't a hard bite like a proper bite.. More of a "Is.. This food? Smells like food. Let me taste test.." haha.

If you want a higher chance of taming your hamster easier then I reccomend that when you get your hamster , walk up to one of the cage's and wait,if one is brave enough to walk toward you then put your hand on the cage and if it sniffs get that one :D Thx for reading through my comment, stay sweet!

Day one: he ate a treat from my hand, I stuck my hand out and he crawled on it but he bit my thumb and It tickled, he doesn't exactly trust me but we're working on it
Second day: he kept me up all night on his wheel and I'm thinking of getting him a silent one, he crawled a little bit on my hand and sniffed me but was hesitant, I'll update again tommorow
3rd day: he climbed on my hand and stayed there, he tried out his ball and he loved it

Before i was scared my Syrian might bite me if I left my hand on the bottom of the cage but he never did lol
Luckily, my hamster was pretty tame when I adopted him. Thankfully, I've had him for over 6 weeks and he's never bitten me. Also, a new (huge 460 sq.in) cage exention (the old one was fine and met requirements but I felt bad, he loved it anyway) coming tomorrow. (It connects to the old one, so more floor space! And now it's not all broken up!)
