I was working so hard trying to get this to work and I missed the part where you edited the system def in the mugen1 directory too. now it's working! apologies for my ignorance
hey thank you... from an old timer im a total beginner and i know ill have questions when i start adding and customizing other things... i hope your doing other tutorials cause ill probably come back.
Thanks man my brother and i was trying to figure out how to put the music in but when i watch you're tutorial i notice you need to add the sound folder name thanks for your help man! good tutorial
It's working except from victory bgm, I test it a couple of times & doesn't have the victory music while the rest of the bgm works just fine. Also mp3. & ogg. works in the game effectively.
why my music doesn't make sound? i follow your instruction but the music still didn't make sound. i just try it on menu, but when i open menu in mugen the music didn't make sound in the main menu
I recommend checking your pathing for the music and also making sure you are editing the right system.def folder. There's one in the "data" folder and one in "data"->"mugen1"
Hi there, comparing the .def files with the stages I had with working music I managed to figure it out myself, turns out some of the stage authors left ";" infront of "bgmusic" in the .def file which causes mugen to not read the path correctly
after entering a fight then esc back to the main menu, the music stops...when I start up MUGEN and let the music play, and don't press anything, a scriped watch fight will pop up prompting me to pess a button but the music will stop. Then I will press a button to get back to the main menu and the music will never play agagin unless I restart MUGEN. HELP?!
did you edit the right system file? There is one in your data folder, and then there is one in the mugen1 folder (which is inside the data folder as well).
Hello, this video was very helpful, but I am having issues with some stages not playing music even when the file name is correct and is in the sound folder. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi there, comparing the .def files with the stages I had with working music I managed to figure it out myself, turns out some of the stage authors left ";" infront of "bgmusic" in the .def file which causes mugen to not read the path correctly. Regardless thank you for the video.
Hey if you’re still around, ogg midi and mp3 files will all not play in the game no matter what the name, extension or path I set. I’ve really hit a block with this for awhile and I’d love to get this solved
I think it might be the system.def file you are editing. For some reason, the default mugen has two system.def files. One in the data folder and one in data -> mugen1. I would look into that path and try adding the paths for the sound files in the system.def there.
Hi there, comparing the .def files with the stages I had with working music I managed to figure it out myself, turns out some of the stage authors left ";" infront of "bgmusic" in the .def file which causes mugen to not read the path correctly. Might not be the same issue but it fixed my stages.
What are we supposed to do if there isn't a second "system.def" the screen pack I'm working with for a friend doesn't have a second one and the music is refusing to work. Please reply asap because this is a commission job I'm working on.
I know I'm late, but try looking at your mugen.cfg and seeing which system.def file is linked to it under the motif settings. Hope everything went well with your commission.
Make sure you have loop enabled on your system.def file (it's under the music category I think). Other than that, you might just need a bigger mp3 file I guess.
It could be an issue with Mugen itself, unless this happens only after you install and select your stage. If it is an issue with the stage (meaning the game works until you select it), it should tell you if it is missing a file.
Well it doesn't work for me i'm using Mugen 1.1b i've tried literally everything, it just doesn't work. Stage music no problem but title and select, vs screen nothing ever.
Assuming you're talking about the "-r big" method, as far as I'm aware, I haven't found a way to get bgm music working for shortcuts. If you are looking for more character slots then I recommend using a custom screenpack or editing the system.def file (which I might do another tutorial on how that works).
@@Flansey yeah i already experimented on that, actually, i have one more question , do you know where you can download chars and stages except mugen archive?
i found using mp3 files with embedded images like the ones for using on your phone like album art and what not makes it so mugen cant read it. so you have to use plain mp3s without any images attached.
Okay, Actually need your help now. i've downloaded DBS opening songs. i renamed DBS opening 2 into menu, i renamed DBS opening 1 into versus and drag it to data. Then, i clicked system and fill-up the title.bgm, select.bgm, vs.bgm victory.bgm and this is what i've done. title.bgm - data/menu.mp3 select.bgm - data/menu.mp3 vs.bgm - data/versus.mp3 victory.bgm - data/versus.mp3 Does it work if i use 2 music only? or im gonna add another? i'll wait to your reply. THANKS
I didn't see your comment until now, so I'm sorry I'm replying late. But to answer your question I don't really see how it wouldn't work. I've done something similar before so I don't think you should be having issues. Though by the time you get you'll probably have already solved the issue lol.
that's some OG desktop wallpaper

And OG background music
i guess I could say this comment is og
As iconic as a Jojo pose
You do not know how many things i was able to do in Mugen because of you. So, thanks a lot man! Keep making videos!
Thank you. Seeing comments like this really makes my day. Makes these videos all the more worth while.
You should do more tutorials because you are a great instructor! Thanks!
it worked! got BoA's famous "eat you up" as my main menu music, it's awesome! thank you so much, best tutorial for adding menu music to Mugen
thanks for the tutorial now i have darksouls 3 menu music playing in the background.
No problem, happy to help.
7 years later and still helpful

Worked beautifully! Well done!
Thanks! I realized I needed to delete the spaces between words in song names
Ok but what about when you change it and nothing happens? Its an Mp3 and all set up properly but no sound in game?
Good luck on youtube i'm sure you're gonna make it "To the top" ;)
It took me a second to see what you did there 👍

3:08 problem I have a stage but there's no music tab am I able to add one
thank you very much i had a brain fart for a moment
I have a mp3 from youtube and it doesn't work. Is it because of the plugins?
+Flansey hey i don't, RPD what do i do? (i have Mugen 1.0)
thanks man you cool do more tutorials
I have a problem. When i put custom music in my mugen title screen the audio is really low and idk what to do
why my music doesn't make sound? i follow your instruction but the music still didn't make sound. i just try it on menu, but when i open menu in mugen the music didn't make sound in the main menu
Yeah, tried that out too buddy, same result.
i want a tutorial where you can add BGM to characters in specific palettes.
I'm not sure if you can do that.
It's great, work for me!
so.. is there a possible way to have multiple songs randomly play in the stages?
As far as I know, not really.
Thanks i put sonic cd music and is awesome ima sub right now
Can you use any music file you want or does it have to be downloaded from a Mugen website
since im using a diffrent screenpack, do i have to put the mp3 files in the screenpacks system or the mugen normal system?
Classic Windows XP desktop BG Flansey!
WTF Super Piter you make shit(ass) meme!

@@Flansey i did both
Ok, but what about songs that are specific to stages?
What do you mean?
Found it out myself, had to edit each stages .def files and then add the mp3 file under the music section.
how about that? can you give us a tutorial? add an stage, but the music will play in the right stage

Yo, is there anyway to change the pause menu/movelist music? Thanks!
Not any that I am aware of
It sends an error message quoting that it can't support my music. Isn't because it's too heavy, what could it be?
That's weird, I haven't come across this error before. Is your music file too large in size or too long I guess?
Is there a way to make the start of the music like to 40 seconds or something like that?
Not that I know of. You might need to use a program to edit the mp3 file like audacity
It not work because i using evangelion music mp3 but it not work why
Dont forget the damn train
it just wont work. what could it be?

hey flansey i got a question but why when i convert music to mp3 its vlc media player but i want that one that looks like yours
I'm not sure how to help, but I think it might depend on how you convert your music file.
Flansey Nice one bro how do you make the character select music loop more longer ?
Make sure you have loop enabled on your system.def file (it's under the music category I think). Other than that, you might just need a bigger mp3 file I guess.

Hey I'm using vlc media player how do I get my thing to work
Does music that's not a wav file work on mugen
Yes, my sound files are almost always mp3 files
@@Flansey ok
does mp3 files from the youtube mp3 converter work?
Shouldn't really make a difference

Why is Hong Kong 97 on your desktop...?
This is brilliant thanks, is it possible to bind music to a specific character as well?
I think you can do that with V-Select but I'm not 100% sure. Open up v-select, right click a character and then go to properties.
maybe it works only for windows 7 instead of 10 still having problems with sound
os doesn't have anything to do with it
Can i just add the song name.mp3?
Is it possible to have multiple menu/character select themes?
Not that I am aware of
Does m4a files works ?
where can i get music?
does sound/ work?
COOL VIDO

erm...i followed your actions to make this song i have play in the menus but they still persist in not playing

Do i need to write the title of the song?
You just need to write in the name of the sound file and the extension. So for example: filename.mp3
still not working.. :/
Bit of a late comment but I couldn't get it to work.
How can I add music for special attacks?? please??
I think you need to edit the character attacks themselves for that, which I have no idea how to do.
