  • Welcome back, and this time we're going over one of my favorite little trends in media! Nothing quite matches the feeling of the characters reaching out to give you a little hello, so let's talk about it, shall we?
Music used belongs to Nintendo, TheMeatly, Marvel Studios, Channel 4, Juora, and Tempotastic.

You should talk about the 4th wall breaking of Oneshot. The game is literally based around the fact that you mess with files and it affects in game events. You’re literally worshipped as a god in the game.

The fourth wall has pretty much been used only really for comedic purposes throughout the movie genre, its when they break that 4th wall for horror that doesnt make you scared, it makes you feel vulnerable, that every action you do has consequences and your no longer not accountable for it. This is what happens in Undertale and it does it perfectly when you go to sans whom judges you on your sins and deeds, or when you go on the genocide route on Undertale and how it makes sure that your destroying an entire species and civilization as we know it. Weirdly enough in any other rpg not made by toby fox this really isn't implemented such as with fallout new vegas, it makes it clear you can kill everyone, but it doesn't signify if you are, it gives you that ending where you do feel like you have killed everyone but it never confronts you on it. However Undertale was built for that purpose in the rpg genre, to give consequences on your actions. With doki doki literature club it never confronts you, it plays out in front of you, it practically destroys the 4th wall however bit by bit, and it shows you that perfectly as if your looking at that wall be destroyed but never truly does until the last act when its practically non-existent and Monica isn't talking to your character but to you directly as if she knows everything about you. DDLC is probably one of the greatest physiological horrors not on endlessly destroying your sanity but by destroying your bubble and confronting you face to face, the fact you have to break the wall yourself just to beat the game shows how it does it so well.

      What about Oneshot or Earthbound?
      Undertale is inspired by Earthbound.

The fourth wall is an interesting topic to me...on one hand, it's excellent when it's used right, hell, one of if not my favorite game of all time is OneShot, which uses it's fourth wall breaking meta-aspect to full effect. The first time it says "You only have one shot," and then your computer's system name, as an actual pop-up is really well done. It's not a horror game, but I'd defintatly recommend checking it out. But on the other hand, if fourth wall breaking is done too much, it has the potential to lose it's charm. And never mind just badly breaking the fourth wall. Anyway that's enough from me go play OneShot.

May I ask; do you actually *only* have one shot at playing this game?
Because I would like to try it now, but the knowledge of having only one try and the possibility of messing that one and only try up would cause me so much anxiety that I would probably rather not.

Ah, the fourth wall. At one time, I was so obsessed with media which broke it.
The horror potential of the fourth wall is generally underutilised, in my opinion.
    Great video :)

My favorite story ever is a multiverse super fan fiction, which had a really good writer. They had different universes interacting with each other, and eventually they noticed the pattern of hero’s and villains. Not going into it, but they way they handled meta and fourth wall was incredible!

Great vid, tho i will say the use of he/him for Kris and she/her for Chara is kinda definitely incorrect, tho giving the benefit of doubt it's most likely due to fandom misconception/misinformation

There is a second ending to DDLC, not the one where you delete Monica but the true ending, where you fill all the pictures in the credits and sayori doesn't go sicko mode

Not to be that guy (although I am absolutely being that guy), but Kris uses they/them pronouns. It's not like Frisk and Chara who're left up to interpretation, they're explicitly a separate entity from the player and every single other character refers to them with gender-neutral pronouns.
Anyway, this is a great video and it deserves way more views.

juat a heads up, chara and Kris both use they/them pronouns! i understand it was likely fandom misconception as they also tend to mess it up, but i though id let you know.

Technically shouldn't Chara's gender be whatever your gender is? since their actual name is (probably) whatever your name is.
