  • The Yardbirds at B.B. King's Blues Club, New York City on May 26, 2010 covering Tiny Bradshaw's "Train Kept A-Rollin'". Didn't quite catch the beginning unfortunately. Great show! Also, the sound was better live than my camera captured.
    Current members:
Jim McCarty - drums (original member)
Chris Dreja - guitar (original member)
    Ben King - lead guitar
Andy Mitchell - vocals, harmonica, bongos
    David Smale - bass

I'm with you Grendelmonster8u. People aways have to hate when a band isn't 100% like it used to be. They should save their energy for complaining about bands with 0 original or classic members, such as the current Climax Blues Band for example. This is the Yardbirds so long as they say so. They changed their lineup a lot during their brief existence in the 60s too and a lot of bands are still playing today with 1-2 members from their original/classic lineups. I saw this version of the band (with Top Topham in place of Dreja) in 2013 at B.B. Kings and the show rocked! McCarty was still at his rightful place behind the drum kit and the newer members kicked ass. I'm excited to see them again in a month with a different lineup, featuring John Idan on guitar/lead vocals and Johnny A. on guitar. From what I've seen on UA-cam that will be even better. John Idan does an excellent job on Relf's vocals.

Thanks for your comment. Considering The Yardbirds started in 1962 it would be unrealistic to think they would all stay together anyway and Dreja left to do his photography in the late 60s anyway. There's only a few bands who have the same line-up for a long time...Aerosmith (though they fractured for 5 years) the Stones (since 1975 w/ Ronnie, ZZ Top (there's only 3 of them,) etc. It was a great show and I've talked to Jim McCarty on YT...he replied to a private message I sent him, and he's so nice. These young guys were great. I didn't know they've changed members. These older bands tend to pick great people--I have a video of BOC with only 2 of the original founders and their drummer and guitarist was great.
Alice Cooper always gets good band members and they change. Edgar Winter had an awesome drummer. So it goes. So it's not like these long time musicians get just anyone on the fly. That's been my experience. This was a really fun show with the Doughboys first. (I have videos of them.) "
Have fun at the upcoming show. Cheers!

I've been a fan of The Yardbirds for over 50 years.
Check out their professionally recorded CD's with John Idan on vocals. Mr. Idan has the vocal style(s) of the late Keith Relf NAILED!
Harmonicist Billy Boy Miskimmon takes off where Keith Relf has left off.

I dont care if the only 2 left consider themselves the yardbirds. Its not the yardbirds. They need keith, jeff jimmy or eric, chris or paul, and jim. Those are the yardbirds

If you REALLY want to check out a truly classic performance of The Yardbirds live at The B.B.King Blues Club, check out the CD.
This video doesn't do them justice.

I was sitting right next to the stage. They were great though the acoustics aren’t great at that club. Yeah, a little digital camera isn’t great but I was there and wanted the memory of visuals. The one I have of the Paint It Black cover, especially. Thanks.
