I'm out of town this week so figured i would share one of my late night projects instead fo this weeks video! hopefully it inspires some of you to create some amazing things! - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
Awesome 👏
Man! This is awesome! I want it in my tank.
This is AWESOME
Cool concept
Very cool. Love that structure wish it was in my tank
That turned pretty cool
dude amazing !!!! mixing my fav stuff tech and fish
I like it!
Fun project
Mate that was so cool
Thanks!
I have experimented with this also. Recommendation: Use epoxy resin and very fine sand to coat the surface. Not for biological safety, PLA filaments are usually safe (I test mine before I use it by incubating moina or daphnia a few weeks with the stuff and see if they thrive). Just for the look. Depending on your skills and raw materials (maybe different sand/gravel sizes) this can truly look awesome and undistinguishable from something real. Also saves printing time, when you can use low infill and then just fill everything with resin afterwards to make it sink.
Does it still work for you? I heard that pla degrades over time
@@shaark_1396 it does degrade... at temperatures above 55°C... I haven't seen any signs of damage except maybe a little roughening...
I'll take one for sure!
Game changer!!! 👀👀👀💴💴💴💴
Amazing Dev Nick would love it no where to trap detritus he would be in heaven
Now that's kool..
Late night inspiration!
I NEED THIS!!
Timely!!! The #reefsquad was recently discussing. 👏
So funny, I watch you all the time and was just on here looking for a 3D print video, I got a printer. And here you are again bro, fish and 3D. That scape you printed is badass.
Thanks! one of these days i may do a nano and 3d print it for fun :)
@@ReefDudes i just purchased a Guider IIs printer if you want to send me a design to try. This thing prints perfectly 1st time out of the box. My first printer sucked hard so I appreciate this one
Oooooooooooo what saftware is that i need. It in my life lol. That rock scape looks amazing
Medium :)
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
It's a great idea and you can place holes for frag plugs in it before hand to make it easier to grow out corals without gluing them in place
Tons of potential!
@@ReefDudes definatley and media such as marine pure open us the opportunity to not need porous rock, would look amazing
That's pretty cool. If you modified that small print to have some holes it would make a neat frag rack.
Yep! Could make some
Cool took looking racks too
It's a good idea. You can make a small model of it to get a fairly good idea of what the full size scape would look like.
Dev, what would be really cool is if you could send the file to an artificial rock maker like marco rock and have them build you a custom scape with their rock. Just a thought.
Could be cool. I may try doing printed rock in a nano for fun :)
Wonder if it will get to the point that we start printing our own tanks as well. Nice job. 😎👍
Wao, that was fun. Definitely 3D printing opens a new alternative for aquascape and others cool options, maybe some under sand bed tunels for Goby's. My concern will be how to keep it sumerge, silicone it to the bottom glass? But for sure, the imagination will be the limit.
3d printed pla sinks its denser than water
Whoa, Tony Stark, is that you?
Incognito :)
I feel like he told us it was in VR, but really he just pulls a Tony Stark expanding his hands outwards and then all that those images were just in his living room 🤯 I watch alot of both of your videos, and didnt know if you knew anyone or vendors that sold already made aquascapes(preferably somewhat affordable). I have 2 tanks I'm hoping to have up over the next 6 months once the coral grow out a bit more. I just can't seem to translate what's in my head to an actual aquanstructure
That's awesome. Can you make pores in the rock and frag plug holes? Curious if it would float in the tank as well.
All depends on how you print it and or of what. Early stages of my mad scienceing
You have talent as a sculptor, they always need rocks for video games ;) i only have an oculus GO, i havent tried sculpting in VR yet but i work in zbrush a lot.
Awesome thanks you! It’s fun
youre on to something!
Good video! I liked the idea of printing things that can go inside the tank on a long term bases.
I’m getting ready to make 3-D print. To over simplify, it’s a funnel to serve kalk and water to a magnetic stirrer bar at the bottom of a Nelson styled reactor. I have nylon but you mention PETG being food safe.
Do you think that PTEG would work for this application?
Yes 100%. Petg is what I will use for an actual one
I may oversaw it, but what softwares / hardware are you using? I'd love to see a video that shows the whole process of transfering your model to the printer
Nice
Will it stay submerged or do you have to weigh it down. Can you use a colored filament? Which type is reef safe?
Petg is the safest
What software are you using? I certainly can't do that with F360... I love that you're creating in VR. Is that a Steam program?
I believe it was called medium on oculus
Thanks! I use WMR so no Lucky Palmer stuff for me. I did find a program named Shapelab on Steam though. Looks promising.
@@simple-controls5507 let me know if it works!!
What VR application are you modeling in?
I have also been experimenting with this also. Supposedly pla is safe temporarily . I made a pla pod trap a couple days ago and I am not sure but it seems one of my birds nest reacted negatively after introduced the pod trap to the sump.
In theory PLA is biodegradable so I wouldn't use it in a reef tank. PETG or ABS would probably be safer
Agreed
I think having holes for your poweheads to be through and get some dynamic flow would be amazing. It would be so easy to do 3d printing and design. Also what program was that that you were using to design with.
Medium :)
@@ReefDudes the program is called medium?
@@harkinsaquatics yep!
@@ReefDudes hi!! Great idea And Job!!! Amazing! Can i use medium program withuot 3d vr glases???
What modeling software did you use?
I believe it was called medium
Do you have any footage of the final one being placed in a tank and the fish exploring it ?
Nope, was just a proof of concept, one day ill setup a nano with a printed scape :)
@@ReefDudes cool; would be fun to see shrimp hanging out on it one day!
What program and device do you use to model in virtual reality like that?
I believe that one was called medium
@@ReefDudes for the occulus rift?
@@quickdiy8127 yep!
What app is this? I have vr and would like to try it out
What vr app was this?
Question what material won't hurt the fish and how bout paint etc
I wouldnt paint it.. coraline will cover it naturally. If you used paint you would want to seal in epoxy or something similar after
What if you used that as a mold to make it out of cement I’ve seen lot of people make there own rock using cement and sand.
What VR software is this?
I believe it was called medium
Looks excellent Dev, the only problem is where is the nitrifying bacteria going to live or will there be a sump full of live rock elsewhere 👍
Could cover it in a ceramic or use marine pure in the sump.
are you saying that the nitrifying bacteria wont develope on the PLA of the model rock.. do you need to add glued on gravel to the model... will that work... please only answer if you are certain.
So cool! Would the plastic be fish safe? ❤️🇦🇺
What is the name of this program. Could u pls send a link
airdone x medium. It’s in the oculus store
If you could find a really porous material to 3d print with, it would be so badass
There is a thing as ceramic printers. Prob crazy pricey but something I need to dig into
thats nice :) how much infill did you use ??
Very little on this one. Can’t recall 100%
@@ReefDudes oh ok thats funny that you do this because i was thinking of doing the same a few months ago but i didnt because i didnt know what material was safe for a reef tank i have the creality ender 3 but dont know if i can print using petg i dont think the nozel will get hot enough for it
@@claudiusreefertaylor3546 PETG or ABS are reef safe as long as the color doesn't have a lot of dyes
@@AcuaTV thanks :) a lot
White pla is perfectly safe for tank use, its pretty much made out of corn starch. I say white specifically because the color additives are the only questionable part. I heard from another YT'er that black is colored with carbon (so, safe), but I'm not 100% sure about that yet. Depending on what kind of tank its going into (saltwater might break it down faster), you might want to spray it with Plasti-Dip (black, white or clear rubber coating - 24 hour cure time) or Krylon Fusion (for more colors to create a more natural look - 1 week cure time).
I don't thinkg PLA would each anything bad per say (well white or clear) but i do think overtime it would breakdown and disintegrate much like a biopellets would (thats my theory atleast)
@@ReefDudes Yes it will eventually break down, and in saltwater much much faster, but because of the little gaps in the layers and it's not completely watertight it's a good place for beneficial bacteria to grow. But like I said in my original comment, you can always paint or Plasti Dip it to seal it and then it won't break down. It's just that pla is more accessible and easier to work with, especially for newbies. ABS can be so temperamental. LOL
@@catwomanva True that!
I would have loved to see this inside water to test the buoyancy of the structures. I've been thinking on doing something like this for a nano tank as well but my 3D Design logic is limited to Fusion 360 which would take me way longer to do something as cool as what you did with Medium. I will have to check it out.
I do have a little 5g I may experiment with
That's neat, but I think it made me car sick. lol
Hahaha real time would have been to slow :P
the better idea would be to use these plastic models as a basis for a mold which media like marine pure can be poured into and baked, then have a true "liverock" structure custom designed
Also an awesome idea. Likely faster at least in scale
name of the program?
What is the program for vr called
Medium I believe
This is so cool! What's the name of the software?
I believe it was called medium
How can I get a copy of that file? it is exactly what I was looking to make for my Aquarium.
No promises but I’ll see if I can find it
@@ReefDudes could you share the STL?
To quote Joe Swanson from Family Guy: "How can you afford these things??"
I work hard! And build up stuff over time :)
@@ReefDudes eventually I'll have all the nice stuff only been in the hobby for a year and a half
@@ReefDudes as we all do .. you work hard and build up over time .. it all doesnt come over night
Can you share files?
If i still have it (or rather can find it sure!)
