I played a few years with Ed King from Skynyrd, and the first time he played with us he told all of the guitar players in the band to listen to Billy Crain's second lead in this song (recorded version). Said that lead was by far the best southern rock guitar solo he has ever heard - and that left an impression on us. And he was right.
It's the best Southern rock solo I've ever heard. It sends chills up my spine. I'm a guitar player too and always trying to get better. I'm far from this level but getting there slowly.
Killer guitar solo one of my favorite of all times I've been a huge southern rock fan since about 1973 and I grew up in Montgomery County PA. Fort Washington is where I spent my younger days and I was digging on your Philly comments takes me back right on girl good taste!
Makes me wanna go out now, and get a Gibson Double Cut loaded with P 90s. His Brother Tommy was another great Guitarist. his time with the Charlie Daniels Band was legendary
I saw Tom Crain playing with the Charlie Daniels Band in Sept. '76 with the best looking girl in Emporia , VA , Becky Blake , when CDB and Marshall Tucker played Richmond !!! ... helluva great concert !!!
This never gets old I'm learning the guitar now and I'd love to be half the player Billy is he is amazing he reminds me of my all time favorite Allen Collins keep on rocking Billy......
Thanks! I know all about Billy's solo work, the main is a non-stop song writing & playing monster! Im fact, you know his 2nd solo album "Creole Shoes"? 😁 I painted the album cover artwork for it. 😁😁😁 tinyurl.com/Creoleshoes
@aRETARTEDsquirl14 Awesome!! They gave me some sweet swag and were just some of the sweetest people I have ever met. I look forward to seeing them again and working with them.
The Crain/Anderson duo aren't quite up to the same level that Thomasson/Jones were - but they are damn fine musicians and are doing a great job of carrying on the Outlaws' tradition.
Of course I remember Henry Paul, who wouldn't remember Henry Paul? Henry was standing next to Billy Crain on stage when I shot this video. Henry's a great guy!

The Crain/Anderson duo aren't quite up to the same level that Thomasson/Jones were - but they are damn fine musicians and are doing a great job of carrying on the Outlaws' tradition.
@Mo - do you mean with just the guitar or are we talking about even more" talents" for the magical hands of "Billy the Kid" ?!?!?!?!?!
