On the newer iPhone, the iOS automatically auto enhance your photos. However, this can sometime distort or make image look bad and you might want to turn off the auto enhance feature. In this video we show you few different ways to turn off the auto enhance feature on your iPhone so you photos are raw without auto edits.

It's so sad seeing a photo that could've been great turn into a weird bleached mess 2 seconds after I touch on the photo. My skin is black so they automatically brighten the skin tone, making it look washed out, bleached, and dried. Apple is very weird for that. It's probably a machine trained algorithm that hasn't gotten a lot of testing on *a variety of* skin tones. Sigh
This is why I returned my 14 pro if this what I’m paying for, I hope they speak about this more
It happens with many photos when skin is not present - it’s super annoying and makes quick shooting slower.

@@Roozbehchief98 Yes, because this feature is absolute trash, but it’s worse for people with darker skin tones. We all know that there is a lack of representation of minorities and women in the tech field. Look it up. GPS systems wouldn’t respond to female voices. Movement sensors wouldn’t recognize deeper skin tones. It’s a problem.
I’m pale and it still fucks my skin up. It looks like my skin is so dry and brings out all of me imperfections because of how densely saturated it is. I hate it.
It’s ridiculous that we have to go through all that just to temporarily fix that auto enhancement. I paid so much for a phone that does this. No control over my own phone. Apple needs to get it together. Thank you so much for this helpful video.

If you have pro model, you can take raw pictures or videos. Sadly non pro phones are screwed.
@@deivytrajanbut the raw photos take up so much space. 😢 it did work for me when I took it in raw. The color was better, but my phone says out of space so fast when I take photos in raw and I have the 250 GB or whatever storage.
This feature so annoying!!! Thank you for your suggestions. It is absolutely ridiculous that we have to go through this just to avoid the automatic edit! Not all of us are idiots that need help editing or "improving" our photos. I am an artist and I want what I want both when I am photographing the landscape and when I photograph my work. Apple needs to do better!

Got an iPhone a few months back after not having an Apple phone for years. Got it specifically for the great camera. I noticed this effect happening almost immediately and thought it was just something I needed to switch off. When it kept happening, making my pics look really bad, I investigated and could not believe it couldn’t be turned off! Insane that this company would ship out phones with this feature! Is it a ploy to make you buy a third party camera app? What is also shocking is NOBODY it seems is talking about this issue, apart from this video. How can nobody have noticed this?
EDIT: I now use the Halide third-part camera app, it still does the same bleach thing to your pic but you can revert it back to normal by clicking one button, which is what Apple should allow you to do.

Im returning my 13 mini for this reason. Still on xs here.. noticed it right away. Oil paint effect especially when zoomed in or lower light

@@SONU-fq2gv no, other than turning on burst and shoot photos that way. but i want to use it as any other iphone since you're paying a lot for it. I happily returned my phone and still on XS now. Which is superior still with the 3d touch :)

One thing i have figured out (which is very sad that you actually have to figure it out) is that when you take the picture there is about a second where the picture is in its “normal” state. If you are fast enough you can screenshot this picture and then boom. You have the picture without it being absolutely bleached.

@@ssaruza yes thats true but i prefer my picture having a slightly worse quality than looking as if it was dipped in bleach for 84 hours.
Ive been doing this but it isnt as fun as just taking a picture and going about your day, now you have to worry about screenshotting everytime you take one.
@@Maryam-um7jqI used to do that but even that makes me look different now 😢 it enhances too much. Pixel has an absolutely terrible camera and I switched to iPhone again and had to pay full price for one and of course the camera still enhances but doesn’t make me look dead and 20 years older and enhance things that otherwise look fine like cellulite and make shadows look unnatural

This has been driving me insane
it’s a horrible feature and we should have the option to toggle it off.
i would like to suggest 2 more solutions :
1) take the photo while filming a video (4k 60fps for the best quality)
2) take the photo using a third party app. i like to use lightroom and it’s great and easy to control !
i love to take pictures of the moon so either option is great because otherwise it’s impossible for the photo camera to focus on it. and on the rare occasion it does manage to focus, it ends up ruining the picture thanks to this feature.
The first option you suggested has truly been the absolute Best solution out of all the ones I’ve read!
Snapchat camera is also good too I take my selfies like that without any filters just the normal camera from there

I also noticed the over exposure on my photos immediately after taking it and nobody seemed to believe me they thought I was crazy for pointing it out 😢 I really do not like over exposed photos

Agreed! I was shocked at how much I struggled to find anything about it online. Thought more people would care about their photo quality? Or at least be confused about why the image looks one way when you take it, but then complete changes without any way to get it back to what it looked like before
i don’t mind it when i use the iphone camera but i can’t even take a good instagram story anymore… i want my slightly dark and grainy pic back😭 (none of this tips worked for me so i guess im stuck)
you could also screenshot the photo before the filter is applied 😅 i really wish apple had an option to turn off this feature. it makes the photos look so weird

This is goes to show that tech can be bias at times. Especially when it comes to darker complexions. I really hope they create a fix for this soon. Be sure to give apple feedback everyone!
The enhancement actually turns my skin dark gray every time. I took a picture in the outdoor sunlight with a bright light on my face and after the enhancement it looked like I was in a dark room with dark circles under my eyes and I had aged 20 years. It sucked all the color out of the picture and looked like it had a gray filter. Blows my mind.

Just got the iPhone 13 and I noticed this INSTANTLY considering I take a lot of pictures being a creator, i was baffled, I thought it was something you could turn off but from the looks of it it’s permanent, which is utterly insane considering I got the thing solely for the videos pictures etc, and being a black person makes the pictures look even more weird, guess it’s something we’ll have to work around until apple fixes this trash.

I FIXED IT. So what you need to do is instead of clicking the white photo button, swipe it to the left. When you do this is takes the video on burst and the enhanced photo feature thing won’t be applied

Except, this means now that there are multiples of one photo, hence using more storage :(

I figured this out too! Just swipe left very fast, it will only take 2 photos in the burst and only use slightly more storage and won’t apply the over sharpening effect.

Instead of just tapping on the photo button, swipe left on it quickly and it will take a “burst” of only two photos which you can treat as a normal photo and it won’t have the sharpening effect.

The same thing is happening to me, I'm about to sell my iPhone 13 because the photos are just horrible, the auto enhance ruins the final image and the worst of al... this can't be deactivated, everything is plasticized, yellowish and looks fake, without shadows. The other huge problem with this iPhone is the fact that the screen has that yellow tint that doesn't go away even with TrueTone disabled... pff, it's disappointing paying so much for a product this bad. I'll go back to the iPhone 7 or 8.

I don't understand what's going on here. So many people are complaining about the image quality on 13 but the footage/pictures from review/comparison videos look almost perfect. Does this mean this issue happens occasionally or is avoidable to some degree at least? I'm thinking of upgrading to a 12 or 13 but I'm really confused now

settings>camera> use volume up for burst> switch on. when you take photos with the burst it doesn't apply the filter 😊

I found a way to fix this problem which changed my life, u can drag right while taking a photo and it will start making a video and then u will have another option on bottom right of your screen to tap on it and take pictures separately while a video is being recorded, it literally captures the original picture and no shitty enhancement is applied
I bought Iphone 14 two days ago,and in ios 16 it does the opposite…it roughens the pictures and oversharpens it..i tried the tips and somewhat worked😅thank you

I am just halfway watching this video. I don’t know weather he is gonna add this or not but enabling live photos and then editing and choosing a different frame as the main image resolves this problem.

I bought 1 phone 14 plus few days ago… bt pictures are horrible after some seconds.. whenever we click the picture it seems great bt as soon as you are gonna see that picture…it turns into bad quality 😢

What works for me is shooting in portrait mode - 1x and 2x. Basically everything, landscape, city, indoors, people (f-slider to 14 in closeupshots if you like less bokeh. For distanceshots there is no bokeh anyways). There seems to be much less prozessing going on in portrait vs normal foto mode. Pictures are way better, less oversharpening, less overexposure. Edges are smoother too. Especially visible in low light and 2x zoom. Maybe a little more grain in low light, but "good" grain, fine and evenly spread. I would even suggest to turn on hdr in the camera app (auto hdr in the settings off). It tones down highlights a bit, and enhances dynamic range. and the hdr in portrait mode is somewhat different to the one in foto mode - a lot less aggressive.
Iphone 12 pro. Don't know if it works for 13 and 14.
Shooting pro raw and then move any edit-slider and save also works. But what a fiddle and files very large. Albeit very nice and clean pictures there is a slight loss of detail if you zoom in at max.

I recently found out that you don’t even have to pick a different live frame - if you just swap to choose a different frame in your Live photo and return to your previous key photo, the enhancement will be gone. You can just pick that photo again and it will be saved without enhancement. It sucks to have to do this every time though

the proraw feature worked for me. i turned it on and bam! it didn’t do that auto enhancement thing ever again.

@@bismankaurshah9777 go to camera settings > formats > apple proraw. and then preserve it by going to preserve settings > apple proraw so that you dont have to turn it on manually everytime you open the camera app. hope this helps. ++ if you still have problems, click on edit photo > click “auto” two times > click done.
@@izumi325 i know about the click auto 2 times. But that photo quality it gives you is not the actual camera photo that you first took. It actually brightens it a bit more and reduces the sharpness. So its still not cool
This is absolutely ridiculous. Apple needs to give us control of our frkn products and not make setting things up such a pain. Then they push an update that’s essentially required for one reason or another and we have more changes to deal with. What a pain in the ass. I’ve had an iPhone since the very first day the first version was launched in 2007. They used to be a cool company. On iPhone 12 Pro currently.

Thank you for these tips. This auto enhance is SUPER annoying! If I wanted to enhance I would do it myself. The life photo tip is the best for me. Still a pain, but better than not having a choice. I hope they get rid of this feature.

I followed your setting but it still working. I hate this feature
None of these tips worked on my phone. The only thing that worked was right when I took the picture I hurried and took a screen shot of the normal photo before it applied the enhancement. I have to act quick. It takes me a lot of tries to get it so quick. Otherwise the enhancement turns my skin an ashy gray. My normal picture in natural outdoor light looks great but the auto enhancement makes it look like I’m suddenly in a dark room with dark circles under my eyes and lots of wrinkles. I don’t get it!
I can’t even take a screenshot of my face on the camera or it still applies the enhancement. I have to take a photo and snap a screenshot of the photo in a split second.
@Sambodhi Banerjee one of the first tricks I tried was to record a video and posr for pictures to get screen shots from the video but the screenshots have the auto enhance.

@Sambodhi Banerjee now if I swipe left above the white button in the actual frame of the camera or on the photo options (slow-mo, cinematic, video etc.) it switches it straight to portrait mode in the natural light setting. This does not add the auto enhancement. However portrait mode always blurs the background and blurs the edges of my face and my ears as well as anyone who might be standing behind me. Is that what you were meaning? Swiping left straight over the white button doesn’t do anything.

I usually just take Live Photo’s and change the main image to right before or after the main picture so it isn’t horribly bleached
it is the only way I've found to avoid the auto-"enhancement" ... all my " iPhone " friends didn't realized about it or not worried. Coming from Huawei P20 Pro, WTF is this ?
The downside of this method is the photo becomes slightly cropped when you choose another main image
If you choose a different frame and immediately return to your previous key picture the effect will have magically disappeared. It’s ridiculous that we have to do all of this though!

The only solution that really works are the last two, with the Live Photo or the Burst photo trick.
The first one, turning off HDR in the Photos settings is pointless, because that only works for the display itself to stop brightening your photos (in a weird annoying way, so definitely turn that off anayway, unless you like being blind every time you open your photo gallery lmao), but that doesn't really change anything about the photo itself, it still looks way too overprocessed.

The only way to actually turn it off is to shoot RAW. In your RAW editing program (Lightroom, Camera RAW,...) change the profile from Apple ProRaw to any profile of your liking and edit your image to your taste. It's a bit fo a work but worth it.

I regret buying 14 pro max .. d camera was good at first then become so bad later on..
if it makes you feel any better, the iphone 14 (the one i just upgraded to) does the same thing with the camera. i have big hands too so i’d rather have gotten a pro max because they’re bigger. but anyway it sucks because i honestly prefer my old phone’s camera (iphone 8 plus) than my iphone 14. i hate all the settings they add to “enhance quality” “brighten” etc- its just annoying. give me the raw picture please
Switched from android S22 to iPhone14 and not impressed. Android had the auto enhance feature as well but it actually made the photos better, this one on apple makes 90% of my images look awful.

Im new to iOS So I tried taking burst pictures and it does work!! U just need to click the white button while swiping left and that way it'll take a burst picture or whatever that's called, and voilà you'll have a normal picture.
This is why older iPhone cameras were better, more natural looking and more aesthetically pleasing. I got my new iPhone 13 a couple days ago. It’s a great phone but this auto-enhancement feature it’s absolute trash.

I’ve also found it helpful to take a Live Photo and then edit it and change the key frame. It sucks it’s automatic, this is going to encourage body dysmorphia for so many

I went from ab iphone 8 to the 14 and have never regretted it more. The camera makes me and every other thing look ugly, the battery dies faster than any iphone in history, and you can't turn off the wifi with the wifi turn off button. oh not to mention the on screen volume slider that makes it so easy to accidentally make the volume full blast and ruin my eardrums
