In this episode, meet the fated hunter Donovan Baine and his companion Anita.

Both of the characters' story are very tragic to listen to. If Darkstalkers ever returns, bringing back these two characters would make the story good.
I definitely think a grown Anita should be the primary protagonist of a new Darkstalkers game, with Donovan/Dee as the primary antagonist. Her mission should be to save his soul, whether that means purging him of his demonic blood or ending his life before he destroys the world, and the other Darkstalkers new and old play some part in that (directly or tangentially & depending on character alliance). I’d even go so far as to name the game “Darkstalkers: Vampire Slayer”

With Older Anita's fist glowing red in Dee's ending, it's not her being corrupted, she already had that aura to begin with.
Donavan is one of my faves in terms of design. Usually Dhampirs/Supernatural hunters are associated with Christianity or a more western design, but Donovan adapts Buddhism and Asian elements. Which is honestly just peak creativity
In the animated series, Donovan and Anita are so depressing.
I've known about Darkstakers for a while, but I never knew the characters were so fascinating and have such emotional stories. I hope some day Capcom revisits this classic series and brings back these awesome characters.

So I'm guessing that these two are one of the main reasons people want another darkstalkers games? I mean, I wanted one before but after hearing this I need some closure dammit. Why, Capcom executives, why must you neglect this series?

I've said this before & I'll say it again...
Donovan should get his own standalone video game that explores his character & storyline, something that plays similar but not identical to Devil May Cry or God of War. You could have the player decide to choose between him & BB Hood/Bulleta at the start of the game, giving the player the option to choose between melee & shooter. Each characters' companion/assist could help the player out w/exploration & finding secrets throughout the game world as Donovan & BB Hood hunt down all sorts of gothic monsters. Then during the game's 3rd act you could switch between both characters on the fly as they team up to defeat the final boss, which could be Donovan, Pyron, Jedah or some brand new Darkstalker we haven't seen yet. Have Capcom devs call it "Darkhunters" & you'll have yourself a triple-A title. They should do this before some other dev like Platinum Games comes out w/something similar & creates a cult classic game franchise, which I think is what happened w/Bayonetta.
Holy sh!t that's dark :O If Darkstalkers ever gets a new game this has to be continued XD

Agreed. I think Anita--if this game was brought back out---would be a bad ass playable character & DO NOT have Capcom USA touch the storyline like they did years with Street Fighter(look how long it took to clean that up)
That's a nice stand he's got there.
I need a new Darkstalkers game. There is so much potential in Anita's character and the roster is so good already, and a bunch of untapped monster/slayer options for new ones.
Y'know, Dee would make for an interesting secret boss in a future Capcom crossover game...
I’m starting to notice a trend of fighting games with “A vampire that despises his heritage and his soft-spoken adoptive daughter”. Another example of this is Raphael and Amy in Soul Calibur.
I really want the two to have a happy ending.
I like how they manage to bring compelling elements even to the straighter characters in the roster. The series' cross between dark, serious elements and over-the-top cartooniness is the biggest draw for me.
Don’s story is even more multifaceted than it seems. His spilling of Darkstalker blood isn’t just an inevitable tragedy; it’s also karmic as other monsters than him are just and kind, and he spilled their blood regardless. And also, imagine how much blood B.B. Hood has consumed from her hunts... what’s gonna happen to her?
And also, I wonder what a “Reverse-Dee” (Demitri’s head on Donovan’s body) would be like?

Donovan aside from john tailbane, jedah and dimitri was always my favorite character. Remember playing this in the arcade at the local mall in WA. I use to have the comics and ova. I was in love with this series. Wish they would bring this back...
So you meant to tell me that there's never gonna be a resolution to their complex and convoluted character history???
--Hmm, well regardless... their fate seems like a sad one... not sure how Anita saw Donovan.. as a father.. as a friend or a make-shift ally. She was loyal to him though.. so him giving in to the dark was painful for her, no matter which.
I think that when the screen flashes at the Dee vs. Older Anita fight, it symbolizes how Anita could not bring herself to fight and inevitably kill her old friend & companion.
She instead used her full power to do the only thing that would truly free Donovan from his suffering....
She erased the entire future of the Darkstalkers franchise.
Now Donovan exists in a sort of limbo where he never dies, but never has to be called to battle anymore.
Turns out that was the true secret of Anita's power - the reason Jedah was worried about her reaching her full potential.
I love what you do with the sprites, especially with that ending. I hope you get around to the whole cast!

Maxiedaman's Anita theme was a great choice for the credits
As others have said, it's such a kick in the balls that the last game left Donovan at his absolutely lowest point, and we're still not anywhere near a sequel that could give us closure. Street Fighter 4 tied up the whole Satsui No Hado thing, Darkstalkers needs something similar.
A lot people say demitri or morrigan are the main protagonist, but to me donovan fit way more this role than any other character in the roster, and beside any one who saw the show can remember him saying

Why I re-watch this? Just to crying.
In my opnion it would be cooler if Anita was 100% human but with psychic powers since she seals her emotions.
Im not gonna lie, that ending scene hit me right in the feels. Damn near shed a tear. 😢
Every characters' design in Darkstalkers is "FINE-AS-IS"!
**ahem** Now with that said, these two characters alone are reason why I think Darkstalkers as a series for its S-T-O-R-Y deserves a do over/reboot at the very least.

So i just discovered this series and goddamn do i want to see a new darkstalkers now, i've never been so interested in a fighting game for it's story like this!
The most underrated UA-camr covering the most underrated fighting series.
Donovan and Anita are like Zaraki Kenpachi and Yachiru except one is fighting the madness within and the other is a madman fighting on the good side.
i like to think that Anita didn't actually kill Donovan, but took his curse. Because of his Dhampir body, it still resulted in his death, but in a sense, Anita freed his soul. Now with Donovan's powers added to her own, she'll go on to confront Jedah and take him down for good.
An older, full psychic powers unleashed Anita, would be the perfect, secret Akuma like super-boss for a Darkstalkers 4.
Why do developers insist that we like open endings, all it leads to is years of speculation, dumb theories, arguments, and dissatisfaction.
i actually read in an interview that dee was going to be intended in early vampire savior versions(likely to go with the older anita.) not only the ps2 collection.(always thought if darkstalkers comes back they should follow up on anita being the ruler of humanity and have her interact with cecil who was also made to be that by the huitzel & morrigan who'd be the queen of the darkstalkers following her fusion with lilith.)
Even with a new game, Its hard to say if we'll ever truly know how Dovovan (or Dee) & Anita's tragic fate will come about. Maybe its better this way.
Maybe its best we don't know.

Donovan its my boy, he is my favorite Darkstalkers character and probably one of my favorite Capcom characters
Even without knowing his backstory, he is a cool monk, with a demon sword and the power to control spirits Not only that but his gameplay its really cool: trying to set his sword to control space or using it instead to use his powerful neutral tools.
I just think he is neat
In many ways, Donovan has often felt like a Hindu/Buddhist version of Vampire Hunter D.

I feel it would have been a better ending and more fitting if Donavan either committed suicide or had Anita kill him... rather then allow himself to turn into a monster and prey on others.
The anime ending is the only canon of donovan and anita I accept.
I think Anita is suppose to be a witch (or part witch), since she has magic powers in a crossover/spin-off game when she was a playable character.
And I see a bit of Carrie White in her, because she has psychic powers & caused (possible) many deaths by her uncontrollable rage.
Bring back the older Anita!!! and bring back the regular Donovan! Donovan is much better then Dee.

Never played Darkstalkers games, but damn if this video hasn't made me interested in fates of Donovan and Anita...
Anita has to kill Donovan to reach her full potential. No other choice. Those are the anime rules.
Darkstalkers has more,than enough story to continue the series. Us as fans need to advertise.

If one day they need stories for a new Darkstakers game, I got plenty stories including new characters that are either older versions or the children of them.

Donovan is half vampire and Avdol has experience of fighting them from DIO.
Donovan should have been included in the MVC games

Anita makes me really sad for her, so does Donavan....Is there some kind of fanfic that gives her some kind of hope or something?
Never played any game of it but love the soundtrack and the character design alone makes me want to find out more about them and the game.

I'd I had a chance to write the story for Darkstalkers 4 Anita would be in the game as a fighter with Donovan's move set. Donovan being an unlockable skin you get for completing her story. (Make of that what you will)
I would without question carry over that hat from her teen design though, it's really stylish.

If any game devoper/company makes a new Darkstalkers and brings Donovan back as Dee, they need to SERIOUSLY redesign and recreate him.
