- I recently found this old RC Chevy Impala Lowrider from Radio Shack while going through some old boxes. On this episode, we take a look at it and see if we can get it going after 22 years packed away. We'll take it apart and put modern electronics in it so see if we can get it to cruise down memory lane. Can we restore this vintage toy?

Hey I remember when RadioShack sold awesome toys AND had every transistor you could ever need. Then it became a cell phone retailer and their employees only knew that.
“Wonder what Vice Grip Garage is doing right now” definitely didn’t expect that😂
The original RC lowrider. Always wanted one of these. And I love 67 imapala ss427’s
This is funny. I have the red 64 impala from RadioShack and I saved it all these years and just recently let my.son have it. He absolutely loves it too.
It's such a special toy and after informing him that.its.one of MY old toys and it's older than he is, he now treasures it like crazy! Lol. ❤
I love converting those old RC’s and upgrading with new electronics!!! Great vid!
You and me both!
Wow fellas, I just talked to my daughter today about my old radio Shack car that I used to have in high school and I would boot it around in the gym drifting it. I was telling her I wanted to take it out of the back of the closet and basically do what you guys did. Excellent job guys looks great I love it
Ha! Great minds think alike! Get that thing running!
That’s great I still have both of those as well, and a bunch of X - Mods too
Yoo i literally did a move for my dad an that was his trick too. Althohgh i aquired a radioshack 'golden arrow' from my dad years ago i uograded an rebuilt it a few years ago. Just love this hobby any at scale
We have (and filmed a video about) a golden arrow! It still runs in its stock configuration.
'Fast tracks' was the name of the rc with tank treads. Tyco made them following the Eliminator
YES!!!
I had the fast tracks in blue that had a spoiler on back and tank style steering
I knew that someone had to have made that year Impala at some point in time, been in love with the '67 since highschool ... Great video guys...
Glad you liked it!
So many memories right there I had the xmods when it first came out
Heck yeah! We got some xmods a couple years ago. That was a fun trip down memory lane.
My brother had the red 64 Impala. I wanted one so bad because of the nostalgia and ordered one off of eBay so I can customize myself
Caught me off guard with the vice grip references 😂❤ love it 🎉 I remember seein this in my RadioShack back in the day 🙌
We love Derrick! We’ve hung with him a few times.
@@10thScaleGarage hopin to finally meet him at the car show he’s goin to in Wisconsin 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 so jealous lol love the channel guys 🙌🙌
Bro! I so wanted you guys to throw 4 channels on that thing and fully get it going! Good stuff nonetheless 😅👍
We tried, but We would need 4 ESCs and we couldn’t get them all to fit.
@@10thScaleGarage aren't the side-to-side & up-n-down action motors just of/on? If so then couldn't you do like the 3rd channel TX on/off switches do? Basically using those motors like servos. Limited travel?
@@bigbristv the side to side, yes. The lift motor would just be on…. You’d need something light a light controller to switch it on and off.
@@10thScaleGarage got it.
@@10thScaleGarage I know what it's like to get suggestions so bear with me. But yo, the lowrider community is huge and since you guys already have the redcats, you know where I'm going with this. Let's just say comparisons...with that 10SG OG budget-spec flair. I've seen you guys make epic epicness out of a box of trash. Literally.
This is going to be a great video!! I have the 58 Impala!
My first RC was the blue 4x4 Ford looking truck from Radio Shack. It took 4 C batteries in the truck and a 9v in the transmitter. No suspension, 2 speeds, (slow and slower). I drove that thing hundreds of very slow miles. The tank tracks ( Fast traxx) and hover craft were Tyco. Also made the Bandit pickup. It looked like a Nissan hardbody. I had them all over the years along with several Tyco Grasshopper ? buggies. Good times. I also remember a 4x4 and 2x4 buggy that was quite large and cost several hundred dollars from Radio Shack. The 4x4 was black and the 2x4 was orange/ red and blue. I was a young adult by then but the memries from the bigger more expensive buggies are much less.
Yes! Tyco!! Thank you for the info. I lusted after the Tamiya grasshopper, but hobby grade stuff was just out of reach for me when I was a young man in rual Ohio. I got a second hand Losi XXX soon after this Impala and it was game over. Haha.
I had both the 64 and 67 I wish I still had them for my oldest
That looks great on the Losi chevelle chassis.
I remember seeing these at local radio shack, I went in for a knob to connect to my amp at the time for bass boost.
Oh dang....ain't seen that Wally World lowrider in years😂
Right?! I was so excited when I found it!
I actually have the radio shack 1958 lowrider magazine Impala, with remote and battery.
Nice! Does it run?!?!
@@10thScaleGarage I haven't thought to try it, but since you asked I'm gonna try it in the morning. Ill let you know afterwards
The hopper was a model kit by Liddberg models. (red wired Chevy)
Back in the 80s radio shack was the shit😂...
I remember that car!
that's cool,great fix
I didn't have this, but I did have that one Mercedes Benz CLK DTM 2000 from them. Back in 2001 I thought it was the hottest thing on wheels.
I was given a Newbrite white Transam by a good friend completely worked and a Nikko Mini Bandit Indy style carit worked to not a peice missing.
Nice!!!!
Awesome shirt Ethan!!!!! Amiri is funny!!!!
Ha! Sandwiches!
That was awesome 💯
Thanks brother!!
On the small red car if you raise the rear to a certain height and then move the front correctly itll 3 Wheel Motion. I had the red one and green one like 2 decades ago lmao . Loved those things.
Ours is super old and tired…….
If there was ever a case for using a Lipo safe bag this would have been it!
I’ve converted many a toy grade to hobby grade radio shackers.
I had the same one it was awesome
I the the redcat was gonna be cheap when it came out but I was wrong lol
As Kool as what you are doing to the car is it's the body that caught my eye at first not that I didn't enjoy the rest of the video also...keep up the good work...
I have this car in red.
i never seen one of those when i was younger
They had a few different versions. This was my fav.
I had a maroon 1 my older brother would do 3 wheel an flip it an scratch the top i use to cry 😂
It was called Hydro Hopper.
More plz
bro reminds me of ruined4banger fr😂
Those doodles are 100% heat sinks
Noice✌️
I was 3rd to like this video 💯🤷
Ayyyyy. Thank you thank you thank you.
@@10thScaleGarage welcome
put the body on a redcat lowrider
The Redcat chassis is wayyyyy bigger. We’re going to put it on a Losi Mini Drag body.
A little insider info from a old radio shack employee. We didn't have the cars out and charged for the customers. We would race the rc cars all over the store when nobody was around. Our actions were entirely selfish. 😂😂😂
