The "2001" year shown for a handful of seconds is obviously obviously a typo as everyone can see. Also, the side-build is missing 2x trans-red tiles that go on the gray studs -- inconsequential but I'm pointing it out to hopefully prevent most comments from ignoring everything else! I also realize this video is too long for such a small set, but during editing I didn't find much I really wanted to cut out. I just had a lot I wanted to say about this set, so I did. I will always spend however much time exploring a set as feels comfortable & natural to me at the time.
once again, Jang succeeds in giving us quality, unbiased reviews Edit: omg I just saw his reply in one of the other comments and once again, he proves he is unphased by others' views and says how he sees the set truly a gigachad moment
There were only 2 sets so far that they included a Jango fett. The 2002 Jango slave 1 and the 2013 corporate alliance tank droid. This figure is in desperate need of an upgrade (though both versions are nice)
that would be really awesome but i think ideally in my opinion it would be nice if they could make it in the same scale as the 20th anniversary slave 1
I agree with that. I actually buy more small sets for parts then big sets and I like to keep my money at about 40.00$ to 60.00$ until Christmas and birthday.
It irritates me that they didn't recolor Boba's helmet to match his armor so his body printing is that darker green as it should be but the helmet is mismatched and still using the older color.
Maybe they only got concept art from Disney or images from when he hadn't repainted it yet, and they were just told that he would. If he had repainted his armor to what it would have looked like new this is what you'd get, his helmet was always a lighter color green than his chest plates, but with the repaint in the show they changed it to the same shade of green.
Having a stand that doubles as a playable vehicle is beyond smart. I never would have come up with the idea myself but it is such a simple and elegant solution.
I really hope that they keep making smaller models. Its ok if they make bigger models if they are minifigure scale, but if they still not are minifigure scale there is just no reason to make things bigger, especially if they provide the same amount of functions and playability. Thanks for a nice review and thanks to lego who just saved my wallet.
Between this set’s stand and the ‘66 Batmobile having a full on UCS tile and rotary station, I’m liking this new trend of treating these mid-tier (price-wise) vehicle sets as premium-esque releases
I have the UCS-version so that is enough for me. I want the Boba Fett-minifig though. In that way, I can display Boba from his years as a kid to when he is older with the old armour back
I like the longer review! This was a good set to spend more time on. Especially a good set for me to see the comparisons on as I dont own any variation of this ship but do want to get this set now.
I find it interesting that this version actually has the same amount of play features as the 20th anniversary one, despite being so much smaller. plus a stand, i mean, hats off to the designers for this one.
This set looks oh so good. I immediately got it on my wishlist as soon as it got announced. There have been some reviews out there that were saying it wasn't great, or that the cloud city one was better, or that it was too small, to toyish, that the stand wasn't stable enough... So I got worried. But thanks to your review I know that it will be perfectly fine for me. I never had a Boba Fett Starship, and I'm trying to get the new wave of smaller Star Wars ships, so this looks like the perfect opportunity to finally get one. The details you point out make me think this will be just right for me (in terms of shape, or in the effort of making things smaller yet more detailed, or even the gribbeling on the back side). I was also concerned about how Boba Fett would sit in the cockpit, but now I can see there are two positions, which is great. To be honest I don't care much about the "gravity induced stabilisers thingy" 😁 . I know this is one of the stapples feature of this series of ship, and that it inspired many sets (like in Galaxy Squad and whatnot). I just don't really mind having to orient things manually (similarly, I'm perfectly happy with ratcheted joints for the wings of an x-wing, I don't necessarily need them to open simultaneously), but that's just me! I kinda expected stuff to be a bit brittle, for example the bottom canons, but I'm shocked to learn that they're actually quite sturdy. Well done to the designer! the antenna/proturing bits using are the first things I lose because they get knocked out 😬. So I'm glad to see that won't be the case here! The inclusion of a handle is a good surprise, it doens't feel necessary given the scale of the ship, but I'm sure it adds a lot of manoeuvrability. I think the cart / stand is a genius idea. It doesn't have to be super stable. This can be definitely fixed. But imagine having this kind of side build in the future. That would be neat. Thanks for the long review, I feel this set specifically needed it. Maybe "scale down/have more details" also applies to reviews 😃
Everytime LEGO includes that helmet accessory pack in a set I'm reminded of how much they blundered by not making the Phase 2 helmets compatible with it.
I honestly love this set. I love the Slave 1 in general. The design has always been amazing. Gonna get it to have 3 different sizes (UCS, 20th Ann, & midi-scale) plus that boba fig … just epic
The little vehicle functioning as a stand is really genius to be honest. Looking at the ship and the handle I was thinking about how to build a stand to hold it, not realizing the little cart would do the job. Super cool. Might need to pick this up to put next to my UCS Slave I.
I'd love it if Lego reintroduced the midi scale sets like the star destroyer and millennium falcon, or even the nebulon frigate. Personally I want small and detailed capital ships that aren't expensive playsets. It's about time we get a new venator star destroyer
Another thing I don't think people take into account when judging a set's value? Shelf space. I can only display so many sets at a time, so sometimes I PREFER sets being smaller to save on shelf space. If the details and build are good, and it isn't super expensive, I'll gladly "settle" for this Slave I because the others are TOO BIG. I can't justify setting aside the amount of room they take up that could be used to display, say, my favorite Chima, Bionicle, or Monkie Kid sets.
Seriously impressed with how accurate the shapes and proportions are for how small of a model it is. Boba should have had a skirt cloth piece imo but otherwise looks great.
I really like these more affordabel models, it was getting to the point where all of the popular star wars ships were passing the $100 mark. I really hope they make downscaled versions of things like the millenium falcon, star destroyer, or at-at
Very cool little set. Although I already have the 20th Anniversary version of the Slave 1 and prefer it over the new set, the smaller 2021 Slave 1 is still neat and looks like it'd make a good desk display. I'll be getting it just for that reason to have on my desk at work without it being too big or intrusive if it was the same size as the 20th Anniversary set.
After prices for single small Star Wars ships/fighters reached the 100 Euro/USD mark in recent years it is great to see cheaper sets making a return. Seems like a good set to me, does everything you want from a Slave One set, just at a smaller but still quite detailed scale.
hey Jang, just wanna show my support for your longer style videos like this! really love hearing your thoughts in detail & really Glad LEGO went with this size of ships, which I felt is in line with the midi-scale line they did a while back Remember a handful of fans that liked the midi-scale sets but LEGO never got around to bringing it back then, glad they’re listening to feedback from the fans & this style/size can serve as a win/win to both fans & LEGO
I like the smaller and more playable sets, the kids fantasy can fill the gaps what its missing in details, but cannot lift it up to fly around the living room.
First of all thank you, I don't know how youtube's algorithm gave me your channel, but I opened it, I love Star Wars (the first 6 movies), and saw this.. I don't know, a child woke up, I'm 45 years old, and decided on this Bob Fett's Slave One and Star Wars TIE Bomber, got both with shipping for €100, decided on Slave One today, took me 3 hours, ha ha ha.. but enjoyed it in the making, haven't touched a lego in over 30 years, a lot the same thing, but you really cheered me up like a human being, I can't wait for the second one tomorrow, and I'm already thinking as soon as there is a discount on AT-TE or Justifier, who knows how many of them I'll buy for fun, thank you very much. I wish you all the best in life.
When compared to the anniversary Slave 1, I actually like the visual look of the $50 set more.... It just has more angles and interesting geometry. I also like the long green stripe going down most of the front face. The anniversary set looks like its supposed to be made of mossy rock with all that random grey/green.
Was waiting for this review, thanks Jang! :) Got this set mostly for the new Boba figure, but liked it so much that I'm keeping the full set after all. It was a fun build!
This is one of the most impressive sets I've bought, being a (re)new collector of Lego with a limited budget. I'm amazed at how much detail and, uh, 'roundness' they stuffed into such a scaled-down version; the wing and wing assembly turned out really well. I imagine the larger versions of this may be more brag-worthy as a display piece, but at the lower price point (I got mine off Amazon for $40), I consider mine well bought. P.S. The fact that you actually pay for your sets lends additional credibility to your reviews and purchase suggestions. I also understand if you eventually start getting free stuff from Lego. 😊 Your work here is worthy of their attention.
I have the 20th anniversary edition of the Slave I, but I might just get this one. Surprisingly, not only for the figures, but I'll use my 20th anniversary one for display, and this one for play.
The Slave-1 ship from Star Wars is one of those ships that Lego has made many times in the past (I even had the very first one they made in 2000!), but even if it seems smaller than most, it looks very acceptable and more importantly, affordable! 50$ is not a bad price for it, I'm sure fans will be more likely to get this set than the bigger version, very cool review, Jang!
I got this set the other day, and I have to say it feels *amazing* in your hand! The shaping honestly feels like a watershed moment for Lego design. My only two (small) complaints is I wish there was somewhere to store a blaster. I'm honestly not sure how they would have done this because the space is already used extremely effectively. Additionally, a new cockpit mold would have been nice, if not just to fill some of the gaps along the side panels. Very happy with this set!
I really like this set I don’t have much room so the smaller sets really work for me also a cheaper price tag is always welcome I’m very happy with this set as well as the other small ones
I prefer the smaller sets not just because of the price but I don't always want to spend a ton of time building it. I find that the smaller sets can be more complex because it is harder to get the shaping right at a smeller scale.
This set looks super cool and I definitely plan on getting it at some point. My only gripes with the set is that Boba Fett helmet should be the dark green and that mando probably could’ve and should’ve been replaced in this set with fennec or the mortar trooper.
I appreciate you taking a little bit longer to discuss the comparison in this review. It needed to be discussed. I have to say I was a little let down by how small the finished product was when I built it, but watching your review actually helped me appreciate it a little more. Now I’m trying to figure out some simple mods to make it display-able with the other Slave 1, so it doesn’t look like it’s trying to be the same thing.
Awesome Jang! So glad they are making this smaller scale sets! Putting right next to the Tie Fighter & X-wing! One would assume they will probably make a Razor Crest in that scale at some point -crossing fingers! Keep up the great reviews 🤘🏼👊🏼!
Spot on as always Jang - I built this set on day one of it's release and loved it ...I even finished it on the live stream and relatively speaking for me that's great ! -and to so your review.
Thanks for this review. The only Slave 1 I own is the very 1st one that Lego released back in the late 90's/early 00's. I'd love to own one, but they are expensive and I have limited space in my apartment. This seems to hit that sweet spot and now is a likely buy for me.
That side build as a stand completely shocked me. I can't wait for your review of the Infinity gauntlet. I just built the set today and wow it is amazing. But mine had some production quality issues with the drum lacquered gold.
I really like the new Slave I because it is so small. Everything else would just take up too much space, for me at least and as you said it is a really beautiful Build.
I got this one and I feel like it's a muuuuch more nostalgic version of the original all those years ago, way moreso than the OFFICIAL 20th anniversary version. Man if they just recolored this for Jango I would FREAK out
Great review! I literally just ordered it based on your video. I don’t collect much Lego, only what takes my fancy from time to time. This is a nice piece for the price!
I'm thinking of picking this up. I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars, but I really love this ship and this is a very nice rendition without being too expensive for someone like me who isn't really collecting Star Wars sets.
I have the 7144, which is the first iteration from 1999. Untill now I wasn't thinking about replacing it. I like the size of this set. I may get one and retire 7144 for good.
Glad to see a fellow MCX fan here. I've actually skipped the past 2 Master Chief figures in the latest heroes series bc of how many Chief figures I've gotten from other sets.
I love the side build, and the little handle on the Slave 1 (sry *Boba Fett's Starship*) is a nice addition even tho the ship is small so the inclusion of a handle is a bit odd/different. It is very good when trying to display the ship in a moc or some kind of lego build without using clear pieces. For example you can have Boba Fett tailing the Millennium Falcon to Bespin through trash behind the Star Destroyer by extending the handle into the "trash balls" which really fits well, and seems like a cool idea. If I don't do something like that I might just end up sticking a trans blue minifigure heads or a light gray plan minifigure head to act as a seismic charge which would fall out when opening the handle.
I totally agree with you and I hope that soon we start getting more sets that are "scaled down", I am a bit hopeful we one day get a scaled down/cheaper Millennium Falcon since I've always avoided the ship just from how expensive it was :s. And as always, superb review Jang! You're always my number 1 source for reviews whenever I wanna own a set!
i really love this set, i love the new Boba design (which is mainly thanks to the show but lego did a good job recreating it) and as someone who loves the Slave 1 design but could never afford any of the sets, I'm so happy I was able to get this one
I wish the 2019 Slave I came with a stand like this... And seeing both this one and the 2019 model side by side, seeing the new boba minifig and the fact that I still don't have a Mando minifig, is all convincing me to pick this set up 😖
I really love this set. It’s just so perfect for displaying and has some cool play features. It’s a really nice set, I don’t mind much of the boba fett color, could’ve definitely been better but eh. But other than that it’s a 9.5/10!
I am probably the only one who would prefer the smaller one. The reason is because I am all about some sense of scale. By making this ship the new smaller size, it becomes more fitting for the next size up ships to be reasonably bigger without being too big. The only negative I would say is they should try to make more cockpit or storage space on ships this size. Just hollow it out a bit more so that even though the ship looks small, it can carry a bit. This ship should hold 2 mini figs.
I like this set, for the same reason I liked the 2021 scaled down versions of the X-Wing and Imperial TIE Fighter. A fair amount smaller for sure but still decently detailed and SIGNIFICANTLY more affordable compared to the previous larger versions, especially the previous Slave I models. Models like these have been well overdue as like you said, not everyone can afford to drop well over $100 or £100 on a single Lego set, something I notice from the comments people tend to not understand and they miss the point of models like this. And not everyone has a ton of space for super sized UCS or similarly sized sets. I looked back at the last TIE Fighter, X-Wing and Slave 1, and the total cost of those would've been £270 and almost $300; the total cost of the downscaled versions from this year is a more reasonable £125/$140. Although the larger versions have had sizeable discounts when they were available, while discounts is very minimal for the downscaled versions so far. It's really simple and here's how I put it, if you don't like this and already have the previous larger versions, just stick with those and move on. If you've wanted a Slave I but never wanted to spend so much on the larger ones or never had the space for them and you're ok with the reduction in size and details, this 2021 version is a great alternative.
The only thing the 20th anniversary set has over this one is the canopy. Otherwise, the overall look is comparable and the price is nice. Great review.
This feels like something I would rather get my young cousin/nephew and feel confident they'd have fun playing with it; whooshing it about their parent's house.
Sounds good jang! Thank you for the review! Glad the designers are listening
once again, Jang succeeds in giving us quality, unbiased reviews
Edit: omg I just saw his reply in one of the other comments and once again, he proves he is unphased by others' views and says how he sees the set
truly a gigachad moment
Longer reviews means longer fun
So cool to get a longer review! Glad you didn't edit it down too much:)
I thought the review was nearly done, but then noticed the video was about 6 minutes longer. Gooood :)
The way they made the side-build be usable as a stand is honestly amazing, its not often they think this much out of the box
I really hope they remake this exact model but with Jango's colours at some point in the future.
yo omg that'd be super sick
It's mad that we've only got one version of Jango's Slave I in almost 20 years.
For real. we really do need a new Jango Fett Slave 1.
The speeder feels like a way to sneak a stand into a non-UCS set and I love it. They know people are going to want to display this one.
Jang said that in the review..
This trend of smaller, more affordable iconic ships is one that I hope continues. Oh and the inclusion of a stand is FANTASTIC.
I agree with that. I actually buy more small sets for parts then big sets and I like to keep my money at about 40.00$ to 60.00$ until Christmas and birthday.
Worry not, Jang! Your reviews can never be classified as "too long"
Keep up the great work!
My apartment is so small that the reduced size of this model actually makes it **more** valuable to me! So excited to get my hands on this.
It irritates me that they didn't recolor Boba's helmet to match his armor so his body printing is that darker green as it should be but the helmet is mismatched and still using the older color.
Maybe they only got concept art from Disney or images from when he hadn't repainted it yet, and they were just told that he would. Having a stand that doubles as a playable vehicle is beyond smart. I never would have come up with the idea myself but it is such a simple and elegant solution.
Could you do a video of all the new smaller scale sets together? Possibly in comparison to the previous larger scale versions?
Got this at Costco for 38 dollars. That price made this set feel perfect

I like the longer review! This was a good set to spend more time on. Especially a good set for me to see the comparisons on as I dont own any variation of this ship but do want to get this set now.
3:55 Also works as a seismic charge carrier!
I don’t have a big budget for Legos and having these small version of iconic ships makes me happy
I find it interesting that this version actually has the same amount of play features as the 20th anniversary one, despite being so much smaller. plus a stand, i mean, hats off to the designers for this one.
That handle is a thing of beauty, I really hope we get more Starships in this scale with handles and stands

Thanks for the long review, I feel this set specifically needed it. Maybe "scale down/have more details" also applies to reviews 😃
That handle will be a life saver when it comes to animating that ship!
Everytime LEGO includes that helmet accessory pack in a set I'm reminded of how much they blundered by not making the Phase 2 helmets compatible with it.
You called it the SLAVE I. You have my eternal gratitude.
The stand is a really nice touch.
If they do a Millennium Falcon at this scale I will buy it on the spot.
I had the 7144 as a kid, so seeing this new model at shop sure did bring nostalgia.
Didn’t think I’d ever get a jump scare in a lego review but when Jang dropped the slave 1 I jumped.
I'd love it if Lego reintroduced the midi scale sets like the star destroyer and millennium falcon, or even the nebulon frigate. Personally I want small and detailed capital ships that aren't expensive playsets. It's about time we get a new venator star destroyer

Based moment
Your sticker application is immaculate. I am in awe.
So this is where all Jang reviews went!
Seriously impressed with how accurate the shapes and proportions are for how small of a model it is. Boba should have had a skirt cloth piece imo but otherwise looks great.

Reviews have been top notch recently. keep it up!
I feel this channel can be both a Lego and Star Wars channel and I like it!
Just finished this build and I gotta say it was fantastic! Some interesting building techniques and the end product is awesome looking. A must buy!
It got the smol treatment like the TIE. It still looks cool.
I really appreciate LEGO making the newer sets smaller and more affordable. I like the toyetic look of Slave One and the new Tie Fighter.
After prices for single small Star Wars ships/fighters reached the 100 Euro/USD mark in recent years it is great to see cheaper sets making a return. Seems like a good set to me, does everything you want from a Slave One set, just at a smaller but still quite detailed scale.

I love this set. Bang for buck, it's the best Slave 1 so far in my opinion,.
i bought the 20th anniversary one and its such a perfect slave 1 but that price sure did hurt lol
Hey Jang. Another thing I love about this size of Slave 1 is that it is very comparable in scale to lego's original Slave 1 7144 set.
Hopefully when The Book of Boba Fett comes out, we'll get sets of him with matching helmet, armor and jetpack color.
The accidental drop of the new Slave 1 is also a fantastic demonstration of its durability
I like the smaller and more playable sets, the kids fantasy can fill the gaps what its missing in details, but cannot lift it up to fly around the living room.
I must say I would go with the smaller one! I always like smaller Lego sets with decent detail
Me too. I would rather have smaller sets so I have shelf space for more instead of 1 or 2 big sets.
First of all thank you, I don't know how youtube's algorithm gave me your channel, but I opened it, I love Star Wars (the first 6 movies), and saw this.. I wish you all the best in life.
The new one is great and as this wave of sets is smaller has allowed me to get more of the iconic Star Wars ships 14:15 totally agree
My heart skipped a beat when you dropped that smaller starship.
Probably just me, but I really want a scaled-down Imperial Star Destroyer
When compared to the anniversary Slave 1, I actually like the visual look of the $50 set more.... It just has more angles and interesting geometry. This will make a fine addition to my slave 1 collection

I really like the smaller models with more detail. Easier to fit onto a shelf too
This one is so well done and I like it even more than the huge version. It feels like the Slave I we should have gotten all the way back in 2000...
I have the 20th anniversary edition of the Slave I, but I might just get this one. Surprisingly, not only for the figures, but I'll use my 20th anniversary one for display, and this one for play.
now i want this thing but recoloured and as jango fett's slave 1
Great review, I’ve never watched your videos before and I really appreciate everything you discussed!
FINALLY, YES. I've been waiting you to review this set
Thank you for including the name of the ship in the title.
This is a really nice set. And afordable too! Thanks for the review Jang!
The Frivilous side build acts as a display stand! OK I'm sold.
Thanks for this review. The only Slave 1 I own is the very 1st one that Lego released back in the late 90's/early 00's. I'd love to own one, but they are expensive and I have limited space in my apartment. This seems to hit that sweet spot and now is a likely buy for me.
Temuera confirmed that the new name is The Firespray Gunship, so LEGO makes the right thing to avoid spoilers.
I really enjoyed building this, but it was also extremely sturdy and looks great. It's a great design.
Amazing review Jang! You’re videos are superb class and can’t ever be to long :)
That side build as a stand completely shocked me. I can't wait for your review of the Infinity gauntlet. I just built the set today and wow it is amazing. But mine had some production quality issues with the drum lacquered gold.
If you're gonna keep making smaller, cooler versions of classic ships, then how about a new TIE Bomber?
About to have as many Lego Mandalorians as I do Mega Bloks Master Chief-- he's included in everything lol
Glad to see a fellow MCX fan here. I've actually skipped the past 2 Master Chief figures in the latest heroes series bc of how many Chief figures I've gotten from other sets.
I bought and like this set, I do find myself missing some of the features of the older ones (2006) such as more interior space and storage
Very nice model! Eventhough I own the ucs Slave 1 I might pick this up!
I wish the 2019 Slave I came with a stand like this... And seeing both this one and the 2019 model side by side, seeing the new boba minifig and the fact that I still don't have a Mando minifig, is all convincing me to pick this set up 😖
My brother got me this set for Christmas.
It’s surprisingly good, just small. I wish I didn’t miss out on the 20th anniversary version, that’s my favourite size.
The mandalorian helmet is not actually a misprint, lego just randomly decided to make the horizontal line a bit lower
The only thing the 20th anniversary set has over this one is the canopy. Otherwise, the overall look is comparable and the price is nice. Great review.
This feels like something I would rather get my young cousin/nephew and feel confident they'd have fun playing with it; whooshing it about their parent's house.
