Yeah, I feel like changing this song would be like trying to improve absolute perfection. But as people said, well, now we have two different versions to listen to, both composed by Mitsuda himself.
I literally bought the album after I heard this one in the menu the other day. Honestly, I think it's the star of the show. Reminds me of the Halo 2 theme, where they kinda tweaked the original but it still came out fire. Sure, not as good as the original, but holy cow this one gets me going.

I'm glad I skipped buying this one, that's a horrible version of scars of time.
I like it changes and brings a different vision and rendering (even if like you I prefer the original ^^).
This version grew on me, and I love it now. But yeah, the original I think is one of the best songs ever in a video game.
Don't worry it's not really a replacement. It's more of an idle "menu version" since that's where it plays.
