    Good morning myself S K Paul M. Tech. Mechanical. Teacher as pipes are pressure vessels than wall thickness and bore must be proportionate to the working pressure which can standardised the NPS or Borehamwood of pipes

    hi. i have new bore well and discharge is 100 gallon. i want to put hdpe water pipe from bore to tank and distance is 1600 meters. plz what pipe size must i choose and also what bar of pipe ( ex: 3 inch pipe 16 bar or like 3 inch 10 bar or 2inch 16 bar ) please i want formula of that how to choose size of pipe and bar. please replay because i have to replay to my manager. thanks

    when I do piping wall thickness calculation with all B31.3 (last edition) code considerations I get some answers without identified schedule numbers according to B 36.10 M-1015
    As example :24" with 20.62 mm wall thickness
    as you note this wall thickness didn't have a schedule number while (schedule 40 for 17.48 mm ) and (schedule 60 for 24.61 mm)
    can you kindly provide me with your answer and advise

    Sir how we can calculate nps size upto 12" Beyond this nps is same as OD but upto 12" OD≠NPS so how can we calculate NPS size for rest of the pipe sizes less than 14".

      You have to calculate thickness using the B31.3 formula, and once you have a thickness, you can select the nearest available commercial size schedule.

      It is standard that decided. You have to go through history. I don't think there is any technical reason.

    Why is NPS is not equal to OD for smaller pipes?

      The entire system is based on industry usage and not ease of use. All of the sizes below 12" are commonly used for fluid and gas systems and they rely heavily on the internal diameter to calculate flow. If you are needing round hollow tube for a structural system then you might want to specify "Tubing" which is measured strictly by OD and Wall thickness.

    you said to convert NPS into DN you've to multiply by 25 but in table 1/2 NPS is 15 but not 12.5

      You cannot set the thickness of the pipe always according to mm conversion , if u do it will never withstand the assigned pressure because ID of the pipe is small it means the pressure distribution will have smaller amount of area to exert pressure thus it will burst it but it is not the case the pipe size over 4” because they have bigger inside area. I hope that works for u.

      @@HardHatEngineer Thanks for your reply. I will rephrase my question. What is the origin of the old Iron Pipe system. Why the uneven OD? Surely they where using inches back then right? So why they didn't make a system where the OD would be 1", 1.5", 2", 3", 4" etc...
