This method of simulation really REALLY suits rendering liquid metal. Reminds me of an old puzzle game for the PSP called Mercury, I bet something similar could be made using gwater
yooo, that was a great game! really enjoyed playing it when I was a wee lad, along with loco roco! i wonder if we could now recreate the rainbowy pearlescent mercury from that game with this :D
This water reminds me of another game called Vessel. It's also an old puzzle game with liquids, which look and work very similarly (at least like in the previous video)
Wow, now you can make your liquid not only behave realistically, but also look as good as the Source water too! Is this a nearest cubemap on the map or was it selected manually?
With all due respect this is NOT nearly as advanced as the Source engine effects, and it probably can't be just because the way planar reflections work. Anyways it's nearest to the player as you can see it change cubemaps in the video
@@Wheagg Oh, I didn't noticed when it changed. Now I can clearly see this. But, at least, with those "reflections" and some colour blending it can be much closer to water, I think. After playing only tf2 with low settings for so long I forgot how advanced Source materials can be...
@@recurser. Oh haha yeah I could imagine it's up to low water settings, my bad. I'm sure it could be made up to that, but the wave patterns and such would be difficult

I haven't been commenting on these for a bit so sorry if this is in the plans, but I have three ideas for GWater2: 1 Evaporation so that after a while of being in a small group and on land will eventually turn into a dark spot decal and disappear 2 Interaction with Gfire I have so many ideas for stuff I would want to add if I knew how too lol, like a bucket entity that "fills" with water when you use it like a bucket, or pumps that can move water around.
The look of this stuff fascinates me in the real world as much as it does in this video, very cool you got a shader up and running to handle an effect like this! Perhaps the next suggestion would be to make a shader akin to molten metal? Wouldn't use much to any of the same logic as this shader of course but a natural evolution nonetheless.
you'd need cubemaps on the map to have speicfic bounds set. you could do some ray casting magic to guess how far out the cubemap should go, and write a custom shader, and then it'd be technically possible. but i'm not sure how accurate that would even be
Wow that’s incredibly impressive man, as a suggestion could you make it so that you can have multiple liquid types active? What I mean by that is in the old Gwater if you changed something, it’d apply to all of it, is it possible to make it only do so to selected bits? Absolutely no disrespect sir, you did an amazing job man 💯
ty, but unfortunately no to the multiple types, its a FleX limitation. you can however have multiple simulations running(so one could be lava and another could be gold or something) but they wouldnt interact
Omg, now do refraction (if you can)... this is actually crazy. You could prob have it look pretty reasonably real, what a crazy thought to actually sample cubemaps, this is maddening.
It looks like liquid metal if there isn't a lot of it, when the number of particles increases it just looks like a liquid mirror, i would suggest adding some texture on top of cubemaps
Considering that gwater can also be made into stuff like liquid metal, not just water, shows that gwater is more then water in gmod, its liquids in gmod
At this point the only thing that would make it look better is smaller particles. Yes you would need more particles to fill the same volume but right now the liquid still looks too chunky, the merging effect helps but it still looks like a bunch of spheres rolling around when moved
I'd assume the particle size would be something you can choose when the mod releases, he's probably using larger ones for demonstration purposes and so it wont run at 10fps lol
This gives me an idea. What about an intergration with other states of matter? Like gas/solid, maybe even a temperature system? Would be really cool to see
Do you have the liquid being able to exert force onto loose props? If not, having that and a weight slider to toy with would be awesome, especially with gallium and how heavy it is. It would be funny to see a significantly large glob of it fall on a destructible crate and destroy it
Holy shit, thats awesome! I have a question, would it be possible to render shadows for the water? I know its rendered outside of the game but i would still love to know.
finally. mercury poisoning in gmod

actually it's supposed to look like Gallium (a liquid metal) with the Cubemap reflections.
This feels like I'm having a weird dream about Gmod and I'm throwing random water everywhere. This looks surreal
Bro has dreams about gmod 💀
The mass and coagulating behavior of gallium, clearly presented in GMod format.
What a time to be alive.
these update vids make me hyped for the release of gwater2!

Your work and ability to create with the source engine is amazing, always excited to see what project is next.
how have you managed to make it look so good within 1 month?? it interacts with objects so well
Looks extremely good
I literally have no words at this point, this is so awesome!
My man here doing better than most triple a studios. You have my respect.(and the respect of many more others.)
craving some liquid mercury rn
Perfect for me show : ) Can't wait to see it release !
Ok this looks awesome
The Liquid is so damn realistic that it scares me.
It would be fun to add a field that can change properties of the liquid when it gets in range
I was waiting for the whole video for it to reform into the T-1000 from terminator 2
It has surface tension now so it seems less like sand particles... AWESOME!
this is awesome I love the seeing the progress every video
im about to0 sneeze
i never sneezed
holy shit thats sick
splendid

Wow. Another amazing addition to an amazing mod. Making the cubemap less intense and adding a blue colour to it would make perfect water.
this isn't supposed to be water
I know, I meant for cubemap usage FOR water.@@2fifty533

hopefully gwater is gonna be done some day

it´s funny that after all those water demo programms showing off the latest tec
but only now a game from 2006 will have usable water physics

maybe because silver is reflective
