I got two cool ideas: Fine like a corkscrew mould and make a resin cast in it. Then you brush on a thin layer of resin in one color, after it cure you do another layer with a different color and so on until you have a thick piece you can turn on the late. It should reveal a multicolor corkscrew shape right? Perfect for a corkscrew handle? Also, there are these magnetic stir bars used in chemistry. What would happen if you used one of that and just leave it on spinning as the resin cures? 😂 would it create like a goopy tornado?
Make the handle out of the match sticks. Glue them together and shape them into a C shaped handle for it, something too add a interesting twist on it? Maybe do a wood burn on the match sticks before placing them in the handle, get a nice black and red combo. Just a thought. Wow! over 150 likes?! Thank you so much for all the positive comments! Im kind of shocked everyone likes this so much, glad i made the comment XD. Hope Ben gives it a shot and if he does, cant wait to see how it turns out. He does beautiful work, so i expect it will look amazing :).
Although I like how the darker lighter looked against the mug, I think it would make washing it difficult, and I'd be paranoid about it being there personally.
@@BensWorx Wudnt be an issue if ya used the lighter inside of a handle made with some of the matchsticks too. So you have like a C shape as the other commentor said, but with the long edge of the C bein the darker coloured lighter; tho that cud be a bit too bulky, tho they do make mini lighters
Resin a bunch of match sticks together, band saw them into a 'C' shape but make the match sticks stop half way up that way it blends into where the red heads stop on the mug (half match sticks and half clear resin handle)... will make an awesome effect, round off the edges, this will give the handle the same bubble texture you get on the bottom of the mug, and will give a really nice touch on it.
Would love to the see the matchsticks built into a tiny medieval village on a rock or log (so it’s like a cliff top village) and set in resin with bottom bit made to look like waves crashing against the bottom of the cliff 😍
For the rest of the matchsticks, maybe separate them into a few different piles, stain the piles different shades and then mix them all up after they dry. It'll look like slivers of a bunch of different trees in your pour
I have to admit that this scene triggered my OCD 😂. The match sticks are sorted in the boxes and if you want to cut off the heads it would have been easier to cut them right out of the box when they are still sorted and not pile them up for a video shot
I like the handle idea, but I think using some of the wood sticks would keep the theme of the cup better then using a lighter. But either way the cup came out great
I wouldn't mind the lighter so much if you were to do something to hold it away from the side. Makes it hard to hold, ya know. I do like the matchstick idea. You could easily put it in a C shaped mold.
That is crazy. I was laughing when you were trying to get it out of the mold. Stuff goes flying off the table. Lol. Happy you sealed it. Don't know what chemicals are in those matches. No handle. Light would look cool though. Those leftover matchsticks, a cool nightlight?❤😂❤
I personally like it without the lighter handle or without one at all. But someone suggested charring some of the matchsticks and creating one from those and I like that idea as well. You could make any shape you liked out of that! This project is awesome either way and was a great idea! Keep the awesome projects coming, Ben!
I think the cameras don't take the pressurising cycles in the pressure pot very well. I wonder if an under water case for the camera would withstand the cycles better, since they are built for higher pressures
Definitely with a handle! I like the lighter but not up next against it. Needs to be away like a regular handle for fingers to wrap inside. Maybe connect the lighter to the mug with the left over match sticks. Love you videos! Keep it up!!!!
Very neat. It needs a handle if it will hold hot drinks, but not the lighter. I don't know if anyone would get it, but my first thought for the matchsticks was a model of the Bridge on the River Kwai.
Three-step suggestion for the match sticks: 1. Construct a tiny log cabin and paint it 2. Glue onto a "hilly" brown or black block of resin (dirt) with a thin layer of green on top (meadow) 3. Fill with clear resin and make a model house egg
Off! Looks great!. You know, it might be interesting to cast a mold of this and revisit this project to not lose out of the red match stick head color.
Definitely add a handle. As for the match sticks, I think they'd look cool if you layered them JENGA style and added several different colored resins and made it into a lamp!
You should install a viewing window on the pot and place the camera on the outside of it. Doesn't have to be a large window, just big enough for the lens of the camera to view in. Use a small piece of Lexan and seal that on the inside of the pot. It would be much cheaper than having to replace the cameras every few months lol.
Handle with the lighter-deconstructed so you can see it in resin and have the classic c shaped handle. This project is amazing. As for the sticks- lamp with LEDs but dyed different flame colours from dark to light giving the effect like real fire.
Maybe if you got some easter egg dyes you could drip the different colors all over the matchsticks and let them absorb the colors all random like. Then make a big ball out of it that can sit on a lit base. That would be pretty awesome
Hey Ben, very cool piece!!!!! I think it needs a handle and the lighter is fabulous idea. It needs to be in the shape of a handle though. Not just flush to the side of the mug. I saw someone else say to make the C shape of the handle out of match sticks and put that on the side. That is an excellent idea as well. You could mix orange on the bottom streaking upward like fire! Very cool!! I really like the new coating instead of polishing...very shiny! You should make another one of these and incorporate orange streaking up from the match sticks. That would look cool!! And what ever you decide on the handle I am sure will be the best decision! Thanks for another great video. Mary-Helen
I think you need to create a conventional handle with the lighter, so leave it open between the lighter and the mug so you can hold it AND leave the top of the lighter open so you can still use the lighter! That would be AWESOME!
For the handle, you could use the flexible neck from a BBQ lighter. If your wanted to go all out, you could try layering clear and colored resin to make a flame to attach to the end. Then shape the neck+flame into a handle and cover with clear resin before attaching.
It looks like a bunch of pomegranate seeds. 😉 Us girls have to stick together, handle OFF. First thing I thought of when I saw all the match sticks, was some sort of Christmas project. Don’t know what, though. 😆 Hope all is well, Ben. Hugs to all! 🦕🌹💫✨Roma
If you were wanting some type of 'light show', then use "strike anywhere matches". As for the sticks if you glued them into rows (all facing the same way, then glued them into rings- then cast it all into resin, it would look really cool. It'd be a difficult undertaking, but really cool to see.
Cool mug Ben. How about making a handle from some of the match sticks? It'll probably be more work, but I think it'll look neat! Cheers Mate from this old retired coot living the dream in Tennessee.
Should use the sticks for the handle. Make a mold and cast them in resin. I know I'm late to the party. But I figured if you haven't made a choice yet I'd chime in... also love the cup.
At first when he said he thought the best way to cut all the match heads off was to use a guillotine, I admittedly scoffed to myself. Surely a set of garden snippers would be easier. But the more I thought about it, I realized the guillotine is GENIUS. With 5,000 matches to cut, your hands would have cramped for sure using a hand tool. Great thinking ahead, Ben!
If you put notches on part of the rim and in a circle on the base you could make a detachable handle that locks in place. The handle would be a rimmed circular base with arm that juts vertically with little “claws” that would fit withing the notches. Put claws in place and slide base into place and it would “lock” reverse to “unlock”
If you ever do something like this again, and please do, keep them in their little boxes, Take out the matches from one box, neatly aligh the ends and cut the tops off at once. Are at least in manageable groups.
Left over matches, char about a third of them so you get black and white contrast. Handle or no handle, definitely with handle but had some spacers so you can get your fingers through. Both colours look good but I think brown or red would look best. Finally why didn't you use food safe on the outside cos the rim on the outside is more likely to be in your mouth making contact when drinking. Brilliant video, I enjoyed it. 😊😊
Dye the matchsticks, glue them up into a balancing tower, cure in resin and turn it into a light. Or a cup holder. You could glue some sticks into a geodesic ball and turn that into a ball
Uses the lighter, but cover it in reain, so you can have it out from the mug a bit (so you can use it like a normal mug handle) itll tie it in better if its moulded into resin

Ben, are these videos new or just new to us? If you're all healed up, glad to see you are better and keep up the great work. As for handle or no handle on the mug, maybe use some of the matchsticks since a handle will help to keep you from burning you hand if the coffee is to hot. As soon as i saw the matches i knew a paper cutter was the way to slice 'em up. 😀 I would only add a handle if you need it, it looks just as good without one.
Hi Ben, cool mug. The lighter takes from the matches. What if you made a handle from the matches which would keep in sink with the mug. Could even make a matches handle from all the little ones. Sorry getting carried away. Have a great weekend.
Okay, so I know you asked for suggestions for the match sticks... But if you didn't throw out/recycle the boxes.. you could make something with them too!! Like flatten them and make a mini tray?? Or something..

Yes!!
ooh good call with doing some wood burning on them, I like it.
Neat!
Brilliant!
Great idea!
I honestly think the lighter handle would take away from the beauty of it. It’s gorgeous the way it is! ❤
Divide the match sticks into different containers and dye them different colors before using them. That would create an amazing design when turned!
Maybe add some irridescent or glow in the dark powder onto some of them to make them pop!
Or use this idea to use the matchsticks for the handle?
I was going to suggest tying the match sticks as well before using them! ♥️♥️♥️
Nice
I had the same idea ! I think they would be super cool dyed in different colors

The amount of patience you must have to have cut all those matchsticks 😮

I have to admit that this scene triggered my OCD 😂. The match sticks are sorted in the boxes and if you want to cut off the heads it would have been easier to cut them right out of the box when they are still sorted and not pile them up for a video shot

Great job Ben! And no to the handle!
The creative editing and filming of the match be headings was very cinematic. Nice work
Use the match sticks to make risers to pull the red lighter/handle away from the cup. It would make it like a coffee mug.

Build a giant handle with matches shape or make a handle with the matche’s wood 😅
