I joined the paras in 1979 at just over 17 years old and passed but I respected people that had done selection twice or three times to join the regiment, really good interview took me back thinking about it
Wow such a great podcast Dodge..... listening to Lee brings back some memories I did the Parachute Regiment training back in 2009-2010 at 28 years old.. Lee mentions the 2 Miler. The "2 Mile Airbourne" is what it is known as.It simulates being dropped into a War zone underfire full kit, Rifle, Ammo Body amour, ,Webbing, Bergan with all your sleeping kit, washing kit, rations. waterproofs, gloves, rifle cleaning kit, compass, first aid kit, maps and a few other bits all together weighs 25kg, Plus extra weight of any water you are carrying and a few boiled sweets or fun size mars or snicker for if you hit the wall and need sugar. So all together carrying around 35 Kg extra weight. You have to bring the 2 Miler in at under 1 Hour 50mins... we used to aim for 1 hour 45 in training to be sure of making the grade.. CATTERICK is HELL....... ask anybody who has done the Para Reg training up their about LICK OUT..... Its a pretty much 1.7 mile slog of a hill that goes up in stages so gets worse as you are 2/3 of the way up.. The thing is it is around 5 mile into the 10 Mile TAB ( Tactical Advance to Battle). so wipes you out , makes you dig in and sepperates the men from the boys.. If anyone has been through it and been to P. Company..... I will say that....Corporal LIGHTHOUR is a Beast of a PT ask ANYONE .who knows. Utrinque Paratus boys...

There was a recce unit mate, and im not referring to PF. Only comprised 25 odd bods and most went to the Reg, now im going back years, but there was. @Paulywauly1969
Great interview Dodge brings back lots of memories especially around the time Nigel Benn was in the military in west Germany around the same time and same town as me. 😊
Another great podcast. Nice one Dodge - such an interesting guy and podcast. A tip from a recording engineer, lift the microphone clamp/stand off the table as it booms when the guest puts their hands on the table. You could use some rubber or foam between the stand and table. With headphones on the vibration/booming is a bit off putting. You could also cut the bass frequencies under 100hz with a high pass filter to help with the low end rumble/boom.
Fair play Dodge another cracking story and so encouraging very genuine man n I'm so happy he's done well, the look on your eyes when you finished the interview I could tell you loved listening ti him Dodge, keep going mate

If you don't have BJJ near you or if you're lucky to have a variety of martial art lessons available. I absolutely recommend Judo. So underrated right now, but its a great discipline to learn.
@@roberthowe2910 I loved it. I did it late 80's to early 90's and absolutely loved it. I just feel like it's so underrated and the go to now is BJJ. I'm not in anyway discrediting BJJ, I'm just saying that Judo is really really good. I then did Taekwondo later on. T.A.G.B and I.T.F. the combination of the two are pretty sweet.
The best defence is not to be there. That was something i was told when i started Judo and Taekwondo by my stepdad at a young age. Grounding me to not think my training was a guaranteed means of protection.
