    Recognized by Oscar looks to me that Japanese films could be the mainstream. But there has been always great Japanese films that influenced Weetern filming industries for many years. They were not just mainstream though. There are many Western fans of Japanese gangsta (yakuza) movies and horror movies. But it is true that change in Oscar’s membership has a lot to do with more Asian films coming to the nominations.

    WTF was that woman doing up on stage with a notepad at the Oscars!

    • @Ashley-oj6wm

      I think she was probably there to translate anything he mightve wanted to say in Japanese. I felt so bad for him though because he got his speech cut off 3 times & then taken off from the stage after like a minute meanwhile other people got to talk for over 5 minutes! wtf 😐

    • @BOTzerker
      @BOTzerker 2 роки тому

      @@Ashley-oj6wm I didn't notice him being cut off. Earlier there was a group of guys that won oscars and the last guy didn't get to speak because the others took up the small time allotted. If I'm that guy, I'm going to speak because you may not get another oscar.

    • @Ashley-oj6wm
      @Ashley-oj6wm 2 роки тому +1

      @@BOTzerker He got cut off by the music twice & at the third time they basically walked him off the stage. His speech was like 2 minutes total at best. It’s apparently not the first time he got cut off on an award show either. Just a few weeks ago he won an award in a film festival in San Diego & the same thing happened. He didn’t get to finish both times.

    As a Japanese national, I`m not sure whether I should be pleased to hear a Japanese movie is nominated for Academy Award. To date, it is widely believed culture and art are always created by Westerners. Western culture is supposed to have universal values while Non-Western cultures are not. Japanese culture attracts Westerners not because of its universal value but because of uniqueness. Kurosawa`s movies are appreciated by Western views not for its universality but its uniqueness. Two Asian countries China and Japan rank the second and third positions economically, and Non western cultures and values will play more important roles universally.

      Kurosawa influenced by William Shakespeare, Dostoevsky, Dashiell Hammet, Ed McBain, John Ford. Obviously you haven't watched Kurosawa film.

    • @kyleliegel

      I appreciate your perspective. However, I feel like you make an interesting contradiction. Because western culture supposedly has "universal" values, they should be more regularly appreciating films from all over the world, and yet the Academy Awards often don't (outside of their best foreign language/international film category, and the infrequent BP or screenplay nomination). I think this nomination should be regarded as a great honor and is a good sign of positive growth within the Academy, as evidenced by the last several Academy Awards.

      Parasite is a blockbuster wannabe tryhard movie. It shifts too much the genre from a con man to a rich-poor documentary to a thriller. 90% of the audience only liked it because of the shock value of the plot twist. Not to mention they keep parroting the paper-thin quote like "Not 'rich but still nice.' Nice because she's rich."
      If you want to be an expert at creative writing, you don't spit out corny buzzwords like "rich" and "poor" in your movies. Save yourself the trouble and watch Shoplifters, a better movie to convey the message.
      Parasite is too overrated; I think Boon Joon Ho has better movies like Memories of Murder.
