@@nunyabidness2148 Thats not Hass effect. Hass would have to be in the Ms delay to get it the thickening from it . It sounds good because it makes the souns more massive, sounds like a real tone coming from a large cavernous space.
@@nunyabidness2148 While that is happening, that specifically isn't the Haas effect. The Haas effect is about your brain interpreting an affected sound as one event. I.e you hear both the signals but under around the 40ms needed it gets 'heard' as one. Here with the ping pong we can hear each individual sound sonically as something else (Until they die down anyway). While there will be some level off 'Haas' due to the repeating background signal , this isn't the primary source of the sound widening. There's loads of literature on the Haas effect and its pretty interesting read.
@@nunyabidness2148 Haas effect would widen the sound without changing it in any noticeable way. You wouldn't actually interpret it as a delay at all, just a wider sound. Any pingpong will widen the sound stage because the delay signals are panned.
1:36 I think that's exactly what makes me think of your sound. That ping pong delay with the careful sound design that you make is really your signature in my opinion. Amazing groove and as always quality content, I am very happy for this videos Yan :) Lots of health to you and keep em coming! 👍🏼
Another masterpiece tutorial where knowledge serves creativity!! Never seen anything like that!! Everyone focusing on high quality samples not giving damn of sound design!! Thank you so much Yan!!🙏🔥
It's so good, that you only use the ableton plugins for your videos. This way it's easy, as an ableton live user, to recreate your tips. Awesome video once again!
This is so true unfortunately. You can be shown the basics, but you’ll still need to practice over and over to get it right. Every track is a unique context with specific mix requirements.
Man, its really nice watching you creating good sound with patience and experimenting! This is for me the favourite part of making music. Thanks for exposing your jam!
this is sheer class ..Yan you're the Man lol ...you make it look so easy i really hope this took you hours and hours of noodling behind the scenes to get these results not to be a hater just so i know im not the only one
New Yan Cook vid, GET IN. WHAT THE FUCK HE MADE A SONG IN 9 MINUTES THAT WOULD TAKE ME MONTHS AND I STILL WOULDN'T COME CLOSE! Yan Cook, techno legend in God mode. Love it. edit: shares the kick as well, what a legend.
Again, fantastic job. I'm super impressed with your UA-cam content. I was already a fan of your music, but now...mind blowing! Thanks for that! Looking forward to seeing you live in Berlin again!
Wicked! I love Collision for bass lines, it’s one of my all time favourite synths (along with Operator). Gonna try out that stepped automation of the fm on the lead in Digitone now.
You use Phaser and/or Flanger in almost every one of your instrument racks. What makes them so important? The little jam put a big smile on my face 😀 Thanks for all of the amazing videos!
Some drum tutorials would be wonderful! Yeah, you've given us a massive KICK, but I'd pay (more) good money for some of the other drum elements and some patterns, mate.
Actually, the video where you demo Ableton 11 is very interesting and useful for those other drum elements. It's just that when you do the little jam at the end of the other videos the drums just knit everything together so perfectly that I wish I knew what was going on there, too.
I'd love to understand how you work out what you need in the signal chain when making each of these sounds. How do you know what settings to dial in? The crazy dark arts of Ableton.
@@YanCook very true - but I'm following your tutorial UA-cam videos and have bought the kick off Fiverr and already Ableton is super-fun again. Also had your Spotify on shuffle on a 2 hr bike ride today, which turned out to be more energetic than usual!
Perhaps a dumb question but where can I find the ping pong effect? It seems here that it is a separate effect yet my ableton only has the 'regular' delay.
It's a bit freaky how you enter precise numbers everywhere when you're just "having fun". Do you preplan these settings or really just know Ableton's plugins so well!???
these videos are likely pre-planned, it makes sense. Since he just wants to show how he does it I assume he'd have made the track before hand, then for the video he can record exactly what he does without finicking around for half an hour
simplicity - precision - repetition - variation - fun
This is Good Techno (and a very well presented tutorial)
Please dont ever stop posting these videos, i have, and still am, learning so much from you.
Thank you for these videos!!
So much information, yet so little talking and no bullcrap! Love it!
I literally impressed how the ping pong effect makes all sounds sound much better

@@samkitt to my ear its achieving a similar effect. Maybe not the massive stereo widening part but it does add width. Just my too cents

Bruh this was dope. You really show how little components you need to make some class techno.

Its insane how much knowledge you are putting out there, man. Appreciate your videos very much!

Man the way you lay out your videos in terms of cropping out certain bits is sooo sick
Your videos are gold. Could you do a video about mixing?
Just mix, 1000 hours, you will learn more by doing than watching, ears must be trained
Have a nice week

that jam was purely incredible.
great videos, great producer 👍🏼
you was everything i needed to progress forward with my sketches, thank you yan.
This is just insane, im the kind of guy who has a lot of ideas for melodies, but regarding sound design holy shit we are multiverses apart.
Thank you, looks like so much fun, I can't wait to get home from work and experiment with this method.
Big love from Australia 👌

Really like these types of videos! 🖤
How did i missed that one!!! Brilliant again
I love the sound u do ... insane
The master back at work

Phaser and Flanger make a sound a bit more juicy and interesting and I can modulate them to give the sound some movement and life.

Yan, you are pure creative genius. I love the clap here, could you please make video also about claps?

You're my inspiration, man! 🙌
Fun! Hope you'll start doing events again soon
Hey Yan, what do you map into the button at 8:12 to get that like supressed sound??? ps i love these videos they are really helpful
that sounds like a high pass and a reverb to me
Thanks!!!
The tune reminds me a bit of Aphex Twin-Didgeridoo;)
I'd love to understand how you work out what you need in the signal chain when making each of these sounds. How do you know what settings to dial in? The crazy dark arts of Ableton.
I know the settings because I've already made the sound before I record a video, otherwise my videos would be hours long :)

Holy crap! You make it look so simple! :D The jam at the end is amazing too. Which parameter are you controlling on the Operator channel?
He's moving the Course tune on Operator 2 I believe... had to look pretty hard on my tiny iPhone screen to see it :)
i just bought fl studio and now i see this good ableton tutorial :C
thx bro!
what hardware are you use? and how to make to synchronize to ableton? but i know is midi but how do you map that??
One of these days I’m gonna make Techno.
Great tune, Yan. I’d love to hear a Breakbeat Mix of it.
аГГГонь!!!Что за секвенсор в конце видео?

Use the regular delay, there is a ping pong toggle.
thats a nasty bassline
Can I ask how you've learned and memorized all of this?
I made a note, before recording the video.
Now I click on like before watching the video

hey man what device did you use in this? a synth ?
If you mean the controller, it's Arturia Midi Keyboard.
can I ask what controller you are using to control the ableton ?
i had the same question
arturia keylab midi keyboard
@@YanCook thx!!!!
And they say you need plugins...
@Coby Williams I was making the point that this video proves you don’t need plugins

making music on a computer is so boring and clinical, zero soul. Zzzzzzzz
It’s amazing go listen to some Taylor swift👍
