Im gunna be a freshman 2019-2020 school year but i made it onto the color guard team even tho im really bad at throwing singles with flags and never tried rifle or saber but i cant even wait for band camp this summer ours starts in july and well its only april but i just cant even wait
ahh gurl have fun!!!!! i'm so excited for you! don't worry about not being the best yet, you just got started! it'll come more naturally as you keep doing guard. :D
Ik this is from like two years ago, but this is for anyone who needs it. I'm going into my freshman year in colorguard and I was on my middle school team 8th grade year. Everything comes with time. I couldn't do singles with flags for the life of me when i first learned them, yet I kept practicing and taking the advice I was given to improve and its now one of the tosses I'm best at with flags. As for rifles and Sabres. Not even my team captain knows how to do sabres, it's okay. As for rifles, they're really difficult to learn and it takes time and practice.
Fun With Katie omg, gurl, yay!! that’s so exciting. you’re going to have so much fun, marching band and colorguard is like a whole new world. colorguard is going to be extremely difficult at first because it’s a strange skill, like you’re doing physical activities that you’re not used to. but after the first year it gets a lot easier and becomes a lot more fun. just keep pushing through, work hard, listen to the veteran members' tips, and have fun! i have so, so much i could tell you about colorguard but in a short version, that’s what i’d say for now :)).
ahh yay that's so exciting! i filmed a color guard guide with advice, tips, and everything like that. i'm hoping to get it up this weekend, so stay tuned for that! :D
i'm going to be marching for the first time! do you often hit band members? i joined guard during winter season so i've never had to spin and toss that close to other people.. that's like.. my biggest fear. anyway, i really enjoyed this video!
haha, dw, it's not too common to hit band members. i had to spin w the drumline literally two steps of drill in front of me but i was okay. as long as everyone is where they're supposed to be, you should be okay. otherwise, you can ask someone to shift your drill spot a little.
since there is covid now i’m watching lots of your guard videos and it’s making me happy with all the nostalgia and memories that i miss from “normal seasons”
I’m in colorguard & we have band camp this week & it is sooo hard. This week is 8 hours for our schedule & next week it’s 12 hours on the field with the marching band & im so scared I’ll mess up bc we have 4 movements & I know how to do the first movement but the second movement is the hardest so far we learned it today & my hand has bruises. I’m also a freshman so it’s harder for me bc it’s my first year but I am going to keep trying bc if I never try then im going to let the colorguard & marching band down & rn it stresses me out I’m just letting u know that this stuff isn’t easy at all, it’s way more complicated but then when u practice u eventually get better y’all pls pray for me I’m way behind on my choreography😫😤😭
Im going into Freshman year and want to do Color guard next year. Tryouts are tomorrow but I know I will get in because they desperately need members. The thing Im most scared about right now is Band Camp. All of my friends who are in guard say that it is miserable. Please give me some advice if you see this! 😭😭
I have been doing colorguard for two years, and I just made my freshman year team! I'm so happy and excited about my band camp. It's in July and It's two weeks, 10 hours a day. It sounds so exhausting, but I can't wait. I love colorguard.
i’m slowly realizing how much our coach pushes us- so like i’m a freshman and i’ve only done marching as of right now, we have our first winter guard comp in like a week and a half! basically, we started learning rifle halfway through marching, now we are expected to toss singles, doubles, and triples in our show! so like slay- and also we’re need to know AT LEAST quads by the end of the year and before spring show- so that slays. we also start sabre sophmore year- chances are very high that you will make varsity as a sophmore also- anyways i’m not trying to brag i just am a little bit nervous :)
We always have our 2 week band camp in July, and before band camp is a mini camp for 3 days for the 4th of July parade 😞 ngl it's fun tho and the guard makes the band do our workouts
At my school, we (colorguard) have our own bonding time during band camp and we play so many fun games like a murder mystery game and a game called "birdie on the perch" where there's a bird and a perch and there's two circles circling around each other in opposite directions and once the music stops and the coach yells "BIRDIE ON THE PERCH" you have to find your partner and the bird has to jump on the perch's back. People always get hurt playing it but it's so fun and creates so many memories. I may hate the heat and exhaustion that comes with band camp but I love the memories that come with it❤️.
i'm glad you're excited! yeah, i remember at first it was a little awkward for me, too, bc i only knew a couple people but pretty soon your team is gonna become like family
Next year I’m trying out for color guard and I’m already excited and nervous I rly hope I make the team I rly want this more than anything ughhh I’ll be so devastated if I don’t make it
I got into a really competitive color guard. There is so much pressure😂 they have over 20 metals 16 of which are from bands of America😂😭 I’m not too scared but Im definitely having body Con. Issues because the costumes are really tight😭😂 I’ve been dieting and working out. I have guard camp for 3 days and then band camp for 6 and I’m not ready😭😂
oo gurlll. be safe w your diets! dw, guard camp and band camp will get you so swole, you got this! and just remember that you are absolutely beautifulllll no matter how tight the costumes may be. WORK IT, GIRL!
my diet wasn’t the best lol. dw abt your diet purely bc of band!! that should be more of a general life choice. i’m not rly who you should go to abt that, but i always think you should eat what makes you happy (in moderation) and make sure you have fruits and veggies. recommended clothes, they’ll let you know what colors and such you need but i think most people in my band would just wear t-shirts or tank tops and athletic pants.
i was thinking of trying out for color guard as a freshman this year coming up but now with time virus all the scheduling is messed up. i don’t even know how tryouts are gonna work :(
Alison Chin ah yeah we practice a lot during the summer too. For guard, our band camp is 4 weeks long :(( lots of training besides that too. It’s all worth it in the end though!! 💗
Laila Arzabala7 what??? that’s crazy! our school had people leave band to join color guard to keep us as a 5a. i’m sorry about that :((. maybe you could try some clinics and do a drum corps?
I left color guard for a lot of reasons besides a job (the way my team was run for instance), but color guard does eat up a majority of your time (with multiple practices during the week and Saturdays being booked with tournaments/comps or 9 hour practices) so attempting to have a job or manage life with other extracurriculars is very difficult.
Hey can I have some advice? I’m going to be a senior next school year and my friend really wants me to try out for color guard. I know nothing about it though 😸 should I go for it tho?
I definitely think you should go for it! Color guard is an incredible experience & marching band and guard is a whole different world that I think everyone should try once. I'm uploading a video in about a week all about what color guard is and tons of advice, so I hope that will help you out.
