awesome. I had been figuring schielren optics out last week. my solution was to scatter light at an angle to a surface like a wall. then you can see heat etc. without fancy image processing, just bare eye. if you cast a secondary shaddow over the light source, you get more contrast. you can do it without mirrors & optics. but this is cool too. I haven't worked out all the math yet. only that it can be done.
Thank you for your video. I'm sorry to ask, but I am confused about how this works. I am under the impression that this digital schlieren creates the image from a normal video. Is that correct ? In other words, if I understand correctly, all I need to do to get schlieren video of my car's aerodynamic wake, is to simply drive the car in front of a wall and upload the video to the programs ? I had been under the impression that NASA flew the planes in front of the sun while viewing them through a telescope, or some other complex method. Thank you
That's correct, but this method may not have the required sensitivity, you need high differences in the refractive index. With air you get this with temperature differences or with shockwaves like for the planes
Hello, do you have any recommendations for improving this in terms of lamminar flow, and is it possible to at least get the velocity of the subject being taken? Thank you.
This is a bit hard, for improving results you can always use a better camera with a high dpi backdrop, but to estimate velocity you would have to calibrate your setup somehow, not sure if it is feasible in a reliable way
Yes, for sure. The processing I did here isn't that complex, maybe if you go for higher resolutions or use more advanced filters, then there may be some skipped frames.

very complex and awesome video!
Vídeo bem complexo, muito bom🙏

Can the filters be run real-time, or is the processing power too much?

awesome stuff
