The dichotomy of emotions in this thread is impressive and confusing. The people that say it doesn't depend on where you are in Detroit overwhelmingly are rude and aggressive the people that agree or at least understand why one might say it depends tended to be nicer about their opinion. I wonder what the age demographics look like, in response to my original comment, or the political demos.

This is untrue. To make the capital, Maryland and Virginia gave up some of their land to make the capital Washington D.C but this changed during the civil war. The once residents that used to live in Virginia now reside in the district of Washington D.C which meant they had no voting power. Virginia took back the land they gave to D.C in order to gain more voters to support slavery since the civil war was about to break out. DC is only in Maryland but it is next to the border of Virginia.

For a couple of those questions, my reply would be, "Just how technical do you want me to be?"
Technically, Washington D.C. is in both Pennsylvania and Maryland, but at the same time, it's in neither. (At least that's what I remember from elementary school.) Washington D.C. was turned into its own district, but I don't think they actually removed it from either State.
And a pound of feathers vs a pound of gold? It depends on what type of pound you're talking about. Most, if not everything else, is measured at 16oz per pound. But gold is measured at 12oz per pound. So by that standard, a pound of feathers would be 4oz heavier than a pound of gold. (Different scale (Troy Scale) is used for gold.)

A pound of feathers are heavier because they are actually weighed with a different type of pound
The feathers are weighed using a system called “avoirdupois” with which there are 16 ounces in a pound. This is how we weigh things like food, equipment and ourselves. Precious metals like gold and silver are measured using the “troy” system where there are 12 ounces in a pound
