Lyrics:
Every night,
I live and die
Feel the party to my bones
Watch the wasters blow the speakers,
Spill my guts beneath the outdoor light
It’s just another graceless night
I hate the headlines and the weather,
I’m nineteen and I’m on fire
But when we’re dancing I'm alright
It’s just another graceless night
Are you lost enough?
Have another drink, get lost in us
This is how we get notorious
Cause I don’t know,
If they keep telling me where to go
I’ll blow my brains out to the radio
All of the things we’re taking
'cause we are young and we’re ashamed
Send us to perfect places
All of our heroes fading
Now I can’t stand to be alone
Let's go to perfect places
Every night, I live and die
Meet somebody, take 'em home
Let’s kiss and then take off our clothes
It’s just another graceless night
All the nights spent off our faces
Tryna find these perfect places
What the fuck are perfect places anyway?

"You're all gonna watch me disappear into the sun" - Melodrama Era
*transitions to Solar Power era*
@@drewkish9367When I listen to that song I think that omgg
I know it's not just me, this song feels like the end of the teenage era. All the love, kisses, evenings, sunsets, lovers, heartbreaks, friends, adventures...
It's full of youth, but at the same time it's sad. This makes me smile, but at the same time, it makes me want to cry. It creates images on my mind that never existed before in my life. This... This take me to perfect places.
Ivan M. That was a beautiful read.
im almost 24 next month this song makes me feel sad like i need to grow up for real
Agreed!
Presumably that's because you're about 20, Ivan M. It's really not all that special a song musically, compared to many songs from 1960s through to the end of the 90s and a few in 00s. But there's enough social media and millenial 'breathless unsmiling girl who replaced manic pixie girl' fans to give these chancers a very well paid fantasy that they're 'greats'. Because they truly are 'chancers' to mostly repackage what, say, Lana del Ray once did. It's not like singers are building something solid like a house. It relies on opinion - and mostly the opinion of phone and social media and virtue signalling obsessed skinny latte skinny brained 12-25 or whatever year olds. And I certainly don't mean all of them. I mean the self appointed 'hipsters'. See Being a dickhead's cool song.
Yea it reminds me of ...the stage where you want the best for yourself but you yourself don't know what is the best for you...as for take us to perfect places..but wtf are perfect places? ..you get me??
So this is what it's like to have a Honeymoon by yourself.
Haha Almost experiencing this, I get you!
@@sophieschoices9663 you're lucky
reginald hainsworth stream honeymoon by Lana del Rey
reginald hainsworth I want to do this
Like Lana Del Rey, she kinda reminds me between Kate Bush, Björk, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and Robyn. 😉😉
Seriously all her songs age like fine wine. Her music uniquely are always ahead of our time. If u don't like one of her songs now, u come back a few years later, listen to it again and it's like u just found your new favorite song haha
Exactly how I feel about this song!
Yeah right ☺️
yep. still do this day putting out new and fresh industry changing stuff
This! I couldn't stand her music when it first came out (probablycause it was overplayed). Just rediscovered her again and now i love her music
omg that's a fact!!! best comment ever
Didn't get to live my teenage years so I lived them from 19-24. Now that I'm 25 this song feels like the perfect end of that stage of my life, and I'm ready to move on to my next chapter.
same here
Yoooooo sorta same
Welcome to your Solar Power era
I needed this. Thank you.
same but 26 to 31, this resonates now more than ever 10 years later
Don't mind me, I'm just an introvert dancing and jumping to lorde's songs at 12 AM and reminiscing fun teenage memories I never had.
If you're a music videos fan, please check out the one I've directed of the song "The Louvre", I'm a beginner and your support would help me so much! thank you :)

this was a little too close to home
20s which you presumably still are is still young, you have your whole life ahead of you don't lament doing or not doing whatever as a teen.
To the ones I never had, the ones I wish I could change and to all the ones that did happen that I would never change. She just gets you going and thinking about everything at the same damn time. Fucking amazing to see live
“ we can be heroes just for one day “
- David Bowie
“ All of our hero’s fading “
-Lorde
I don't get the connection. There are a tons of songs that reference heros. I don't get it. 🤔
@@bradmetzger8631 I can kinda see it. "Every night I live and die" so, every day she's born and dies a hero. But, "all of our hero's fading" meaning she's slowly dying, and she can't "Stand to be alone" as in all the heroes are already dead or are also fading. She's the only one in the music video, wishing for Perfect Places (Perhaps where nobody dies, especially heroes) but if heroes are fading, then Perfect Places don't exist.
It's definitely contrived, but, oh well.
@@bradmetzger8631 she was referencing to bowies death and many other artists death that died in the past few years that she might consider her "heroes"
@@bradmetzger8631 isn't she influenced by Bowie so she maybe referencing his death
Peter Gabriel was co- author of Heroes.
ignore me just here after listening to Solar Power where lorde has found a perfect place on the beach in the sun :)
Mundane wasn't it! Definitely not as good as I expected from a talent like it, especially as it's had so much time since it's last release.

I'm 23 and I feel like my teenage years were just yesterday...
Don't worry about your teenage years, the 20s are great if not better. But the teenage years are very special and you will never forget them.
turned 20 just last week, what a fucking ride 19 was!
Tomorrow Im turning 20 - feeling like shit right know cause' my head is exploding and i feel lost, feeling like i make everything worse - this song hits home, even though its all an ilussion of nostalgia i find some comfort in long gone memories
this song is possibly one of if not the top song for me of all time. ever since melodrama first came out i constantly find myself coming back to this song and still getting chills while dancing like i did the first time i heard it

Afshin Hafezi nah I wanted to be a fuckin trilobite

Luck? How does being in the era of a 1 hit wonder should make people thankful for that?
yeah but humans didn't exist until about 400,000 years ago so for most of Earth's history it isn't possible so you're blowing it out of proportion. You should say ''Humans have been around for blah blah''
One hit wonder?????? 2 hit wonder
I'm turning 18 in 10minutes and I'm listening to all of Lorde's songs to kiss my childhood goodbye
EDIT: It's October 16th, my birthday again. I turn 20 today. It's so surreal to officially no longer be a teen despite never even having experienced many "teenage" things.
I graduated high school, and started college.
I realized I was going to be friends with my old friends forever (they're so amazing) but at the same time feel like I won't ever make friends as good again.
I was 19 and on fire (as one commenter pointer out!) and I thought about giving an update last year too but I didn't end up doing so.
Honestly adulthood, even though I experienced so little of it as a college student, is tough. I feel constantly lost in regard to my classes, my career, my hopes, and myself. Every year I seem to get the birthday blues because there's this huge expectation for you to be happy, that you know you're disappointing the important people in your life when you aren't. Yet, the best part of making this comment is that fact that every once in a while, someone, maybe even in the middle of July, would wish me happy birthday. And that would make me happy. Because an internet stranger took the effort, had the intention, to want me to be a little bit happier, and I was. So thank you, everyone who wished me happy birthday.
Oh look at that, it's perfectly 12am on 10/17 so it's no longer my birthday. See you guys next year potentially? Best wishes to everyone, I hope your joys continue and your pains ease soon.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
"It drives you crazy getting old"
Welp I feel like this can be called as wholesome... Right?

Lorde really makes me want to go outside and enjoy life and take advantage of my youth, not a lot of people can make you feel like that. I love Lorde and her music so much simply for that
Like fine wine, they age...I find myself being encouraged to step out there from this song too
Don’t worry, Lorde will come back. She just knows the right time to attack. That’s part of of the beauty of it, haha.
But we're starving
Exactly we are starving for lorde
we’re tired. like we actually need to wait like 3 more years lol. ffs lorde we miss you
Please. I need her more than ever :(
Bruh Im lonely this past 2 years. Miss lorde
You know what's so cool about this? This is how us "normal" people dance. Not saying dancers are'nt or something but you see all these famous people dancing and you know they be faking it. The way lorde dances, yes she gets made of fun of for it, but that's legit how i dance in my room. When i feel like i'm alone and i have all the freedom to do whatever i want. I guess that's what adolescence is, feeling alone yet so free, doing as we please. I don't what point i was trying to make but this is what i had to say. She dances like she feels the music, it doesnt feel choreographed, it's sporadic and spontaneous and that is the embodiment of youth. I know she's an adult but her and her music will always be an embodiment of youth and adolescence.
Tanisha Shriyan in love with this comment so much
Dude gg you made words of my blurry mind
Wish I could like a comment more than once
“She dances like she feels the music” that’s the exactly same thing I though when I watched her performing for the first time in 2014, I didn’t like it by first, but I rediscovered her art some years later and here I’m, worshiping all her songs and clips and everything else
Watching her in Yellow Flicker Beat is is a treat in itself even without the music being considered
This song always makes me tear up because it was released just I was graduating college. Suddenly I was an adult working and all my friends were having children and/or getting married.
No matter how much I tried to resist it... There's no escape for getting old. FML
Lorde is such an artist
how does a person take so much pain and turn it into something so fucking beautiful
I don't know if you know the song Cherry Wine by Hozier but that's how I feel about that song too.

i think this song translates perfectly the current generation. we look for places that doesn't even exist, searching for a feeling that might make us consider ouserlves alive, while comprehend that we're alone in this world - at the same time we don't want to be. GOD DO I LOVE LORDE.

Does anyone notice that she sings of "we" but she's all alone in the all the shots? I think that's the essence of Melodrama and youth - we're joined in solitude and we dream of becoming we but we sing and dance in separate rooms. Much love to anyone who came here because they were lonely :)
oh my god we're horrendous

No one writes and makes music like Lorde. I never heard one just like hers. She deserves more!!
This song made me realise something that kinda sorta changed the way I see life, this is the FIRST song that I’ve ever heard that has done that. The song talks about how when we grow up we start thinking and looking for “perfect places”. Places where everything is perfect, but as I was thinking about the song I realised that there’s one time in our life where we don’t think about and look for these perfect places, our childhood. Because we’re young and clueless of the world, we only know few things and, at the very least for me, they seemed perfect. This made me realise that it’s not the question of a perfect place, but a perfect time. Our childhood. And man do I miss mine……
her melodies are so haunting and sweet.
perfect places, buzzcut season, the louvre, hard feelings, writer in the dark, royals, team.
they all stick in my head for hours after every time i hear them.

OMG LORDE YOU'RE LOOKING LIKE BJÖRK AND YOU ARE A GENIUS SUCH AS HER WTFFFFFF EVERYTHING JUST GET RENOVATED
That's a bit of a stretch
lorde equal bjork? yeah um... try again
Love Lorde but... No, Bjork is untouchable
You certainly have never listened to Bjork except the Bachelorette piece... Because to compare Bjork and Lorde is anything. Lorde sings good but it's not the same thing... Bjork is absolutely unique, then she is mich more focused on experimental electronics and works with hyper complex sound like Arca and others... it's clearly not all the same category, Bjork is clearly intouchable and unclassifiable, they do not play in the same court and Lorde has a much more teenage audience and touches everyone while Bjork... It's really more deep, ultra worked, complex, weird, no debate possible. BUT I love melodrama of Lorde, it's very good album !
Lorde is great but to be equivocal with Björk? uh
oh she was teasing solar power with this MV!!
A euphoric ending to melodrama and a timeless pop banger!
I think this was inspired by our teenage years, how we always feel like we are looking and waiting for our lives to begin, when we will see beautiful things and get a taste of romance, luxury, or whatever you desire. She is filmed in all of these different, beautiful, dreamy places in beautiful clothes and expensive looking items like the tea set and the decorations and dinnerware in the empty restaurant. She is existing in all of these "Perfect Places," realizing that fulfilling that teenage desire to not be where they are in reality, is just as infinite as desire itself. She went to these places expecting to find some kind of peace and solace, but discovers that what she was searching for wasn't in any of those "perfect" places. You never feel satisfied when you look for yourself in those wants that will ultimately never feed your soul. We can open our eyes to the present, find ourselves through the lessening of want, see our true selfs more clearly, and try to love the things we usually, for lack of a better word, hate. Sometimes we hate our homes and the people we live with, sometimes we hate the school we go to and the people we see there, sometimes we hate the job we go to and the people we see there. But most times, we probably don't hate those "places," we just wish to not be there. As a reaction of that, we think of better, more perfect, places we could be. I'm probably not spot on with what Lorde had in mind, but my overall interpretation of this is that we've been existing in a perfect place this entire time. We get things mixed up a lot, especially as teenagers. We make the mistake of waiting for our love, truth, and dignity to come with fulfilling our desires, and escaping the world we are in, when what we were really searching for was always within.
Corie Marie OMG yes!!!!!!!

Same here.. Trying to find my ground:)
same... still trying to find a purpose🌹💎
the key to what this song is about is in the last line "what the fuck are perfect places"? There is NO UTOPIA. No perfect paradise. People think the grass is greener on the other side, or the people at the top of the mountain are having a better view and more fun. But this is all an illusion. Your happiness is in your head, and "the mind is its own place and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven". If you keep chasing things, you'll never be happy, everything will be one step out of reach.
@@jannguyen4573 that is 100% true. I've seen people with major FOMO (fear of missing out) ruin good relationships, leave good jobs, and run from their responsibilities over and over again.
Same
Forgot to come back and comment on my birthday. But, I’m 19 and I’m on fire!
Congratulations! Do you hate the headlines and the weather?
@@Ducky_924 yes, lol
i just love her. she dances, acts, sings, and talks so shamelessly and i ADORE her for it.
The line “I’m nineteen and I’m on fire” hits different when you turn 20
* *Cries in 26* *
It really did
I liked and then disliked your comment. Here I'm gonna be in like 2 years to like your comment again and truly share that feeling.. see ya!
I'm 19 now, but I miss my 15, 16 and 17 years so much
I turned 20 yesterday & this song hits even harder now
The verses and pre-chorus on this song are so addictive to listen to. This entire album is just a complete masterpiece and still sounds so fresh and ageless.
Hey guys I am a 21 year old songwriter based in New York. if you like sad singer songwriter songs like this one I think you may enjoy my new song entitled "Crumbling Constellations" you can check out the video on my channel! :)
I can't believe how young she is. She's beyond her years in every way.
Yeah I think she is 19. This is like four years after her first album, if I'm remembering right. She also did the hunger games soundtrack. She is pretty amazing imo
sparky thekid Actually she's 20. 1996 kid tho
Remember that David Bowie said that Lorde is the future of music ;)
Edit: 2000 Likes!! thank you so much for that ;)
Don't remember exactly when but he actually said that
Joshua Gray Yeah, she said it
Nixolas then Lorde is the future of music!
Wait what? I'm confused.
Oh, I see. It's a username, get over it.
I wanna get close to a person like Lorde got to that lightbulb X,D
2024 ❤ alguém mais vibrando com esse som?
Euu
Still can't believe that this bop didn't even charted on the billboard chart, while In My Feelings is 1st for 10 weeks

power of memes
Omg I Hated that song
Still being n°1 on feeling chart songs
9 months later and now Old Town Road is a contender for beating Mariah/Boyz II Men’s record of 16 weeks. The charts haven’t been that great since 2016 imo.
Unpopular opinion: This is Lorde's best song so far.
It’s not an unpopular opinion you are totally right
HOT TAKE, but its top 3 on melodrama imo Idk about it being her best
totallyyyy
Def not best for me but it’s good
