- NC State and Arkansas played Game 3 of the Fayetteville Super Regional in the 2021 College Baseball Season.

I have a combined 4 years of experience as a Baseball & Basketball Play by Play announcer, which is where I learned my skills for commentary/breakdowns.

I can't believe they bounced back after the first game
Actually that first game was the best case scenario for them. Their rotation is only 5 guys basically and we jumped on them so quickly they that they got to wave the white flag and not use any of those guys. If game 1 was a little closer we could have forced them to use their other pitchers. Then our bats just went cold unfortunately.
This is the great thing about earning your way to Omaha. You can't be voted in or invited. You have to win the games to get there.
Can't wait for college football to be like this. Not a bunch of yon a commute saying who deserves to be there
You guys know there was a selection committee to fill out the 64 team field right. Just like college basketball. Some teams will get left out and have an argument
@@stun2187 so there are two big differences. One, the NCAA tournament in basketball has 68 teams at least. College football has four. That alone is way more inclusive.
The other big difference however is the conference tournaments. Almost every team has the ability to play themselves in the tournament. Conference tournaments winners get automatic bids to the main tournament. So everyone has a chance. The only exceptions are that In some baseball conferences you have to qualify for the conference tournament. But for many of the tournament for their postseason lives begins the week before the actual tournament. I consider the conference tournaments almost to play in round. That's a big difference between basketball and football
@@GR-bn3xj how many teams you include doesn’t change the fact that it’s a subjective selection process. You’ll never be able to achieve that large of a field in football so you might as well settle into a 4 or 8 team playoff that will never be without controversy

I truly believe your coach should not have put Kopps as starting pitcher!!! He was uncomfortable from the git-go!!! Kopps is unstoppable when there’s 2 or 3 innings left!!! Coach boo-booed!!!! Shame on him!!!!!

I understand that Kopps is the best pitcher in college baseball, but it is so stupid that they let him throw almost 120 pitches. He is a closer and should not be throwing more than a normal starter🤦🏻♂️

The higher the stakes the tougher the fall but i would love to have a season like Kopps had. Hes one of the best pitchers i have ever seen in college baseball. I think some MLB team will get at least a good set-up man if not closer at the next kevel.

Arkansas has been too arrogant all year, including their fans. Not shocked to see this happen.
NC State's record over the last 39 games is 31-8. Arkansas's was 30-9. State is hot and can beat anybody right now. They exposed a weak pitching staff sans Kopps and the first starter. Avent saved his pitching rotation after getting down 7-1 in the first game. It paid off in the end. Congrats to the Hogs on a great year. Great stadium and fans.
That was the key. If NC State played those left handed pitchers in the first game and still lost then they would have lost game 2 without a doubt.
I agree, but at the same time, I'd like to see the strength of schedule over NCS's 31-8 stretch over Ark's 30-9 (difference of only 1 win/game). No offense to the ACC but their talent is not that of the SEC. I am a Tennessee fan, to be clear. But don't disrespect Arkansas' historic run against the talent they did so against.
NC state absolutely beat them out in Supers, but I think it's tough to say what NC-state did in the stretch was 'better' than Arks. NC state was also without a conference championship in a (not arguably) lesser conference/talent pool. Losing to an unranked (hot handed) Duke who got easily handled by my vols in regionals.

Thats why momentum does not exist in baseball from game to game. Even at the college level. I thought after friday NC State was toast. However, Avent's team has the intestinal fortitude to win the CWS. It might sound far fetched but beating Arkansas in Fayetville is probably just as tough as at least reaching rhe CWS final.
Arkansas was cocky all season long. They thought they had it in the bag after that first game. Hilarious that they lost.

Dude had most pitches by any pitcher without a start in all of college baseball. But also more than most with a start. He was a 'reliever' who consistently pitched 4+ innings.
Gotta love baseball. Get pitching and good defence and you’ll be in almost every game.

Bringing Kopps back out in the top of the ninth at 117 pitches was one of the dumbest coaching decisions I’ve seen in College Baseball.

This was the exact sequence of events for NC state to win. Bats just went cold at the wrong time. They have been cold ever since Nebraska other than the BP pitching we got game 1. Christian Franklin going 0-14 with 12 strikeouts starting with Nebraska is just unacceptable for your cleanup hitter. 7 of 9 guys in the lineup were slumping pretty hard and NC state was hot.

@@kevinyates9917 OBVIOUSLY NC was more hungry in the series and Arkansas seemed like they were gonna take care of them no problem, but Arkansas was too nonchalant especially in Game 3 and NC state capitalized. U of A should’ve ran it up and buried them in the beginning of the game. Oh well.

When you have to start your closer, you're showing your desparation and that your pitching depth is not cut out for a deep tournament run
Got Outscored 28-11 during the set, doesn’t matter. The beauty of baseball right there. Go pack
DVH made one mistake.....that was leaving Kopps in the 9th. You could see in the 8th that the hits were getting harder and longer and we were lucky that the one hit to left field in the 8th didnt go out. Kopps was tired and he was not getting the drop on his cutter as much. If Wicklander started the 9th then maybe things would be different. Our hitting was horrid throughout both regionals and supers so Arkansas seemed to peak a bit too early.
My fellow Hog fans, keep your heads up. I know it's disappointing, but we still had a fantastic season. 50-13 is nothing to scoff at. There were so many great moments, such as Kopps insane season, Charlie Welch showing our as of late, and being both the SEC regular season and tournament champs. All of our sports are looking up and personally I've never been prouder to be a hog fan. Hats off to nc state, y'all deserved it. From a nc state fan watching all 3 games. Yall made Kopps sound like Jesus on the mound. Mans not even that good. Gave up 2 hrs and 7 hits. His arm will be a noodle in 2 years

At first I thought having Kopps, a reliever, start the game was a mistake, but he was pretty good. However, Nc state wanted it badly enough to pull off the improbable!
If you took a shot everytime oen of the announcers said "Gyro Ball" during this game you would be DOA at the hospital by the third inning.

Not getting more runs in the 2nd with the bases loaded was costly and maybe would have demoralized State if we got a big hit then. We could never get anything going until after 2 outs so that also hurt. We could never get 2 or 3 hits in a row the final 2 games and have a rally.

Ngl, next year we could literally be as good as this year if you look at our recruits. We will have an even better starting pitcher out of Texas, and will keep Wicklander. Obviously we will have the huge loss in Kopps and Franklin, but that should be offset from the insane recruiting class we have coming up.

I remember when Augie Garrido was head coach at Texas. He wouldn't allow his team to make a dogpile if they were the visiting team. He felt it was poor sportsmanship to do that on an opponents home field. Old school coaches like him no longer exist.
A small correction. The University of Texas baseball team NEVER dogpiles unless it wins the NCAA championship. Tradition. You can find videos of post game from last night in Austin. Earned their 37th trip to Omaha, no pile. Excitement, yes, but no pile.

Same ol' Arkansas. So much for Kopps being unhittable.
Two things. 1) He is so good that even just scoring 3 runs in 9 innings on him is considered amazing, so think about that...not to mention in a role he has never been asked to do 2) He is not necessarily a strikeout pitcher. He forces bad swings and gets a lot of weak hits. He is "hittable" but you really have to work to string together multiple hits to score on him. They just so happened to get a hold on a couple pitches (that really weren't that bad of pitches)

@@kevinyates9917 thanks, that means a lot. As a hog fan I’ve learned not to get to excited. The way Arkansas fans and our players have been stereotyped and ridiculed in the last 24 hours. It is not the way I wanted end of one of the greatest seasons in baseball history for the hogs or anyone else.

As an Arkansas fan, I don’t think this is the best team. We didn’t have a consistent pitcher outside of Kopps and Wicklander. I didn’t expect to even make it to Omaha when the year started. I thought it was going to be a rebuild year. It still stings though but, the offense couldn’t show up when it mattered
Should've lost their regional if we're being honest. And they had probably the easiest regional in the country.
@@volcrazy89 definitely didn’t have the easiest regional, your high if you think that. Nebraska was a team that deserved to host but got screwed because the Big 10 decided to not have a tournament. And tbh, I think we may have lost in regionals. Hitting was terrible besides that NJIT game. Our 1-4 hitters were non existent. I’m surprised we even made it past Nebraska

Out of all the teams that were really good this year, Arizona and Tennessee overperformed the most. They were both ranked around 20 at the start of the season.

Yes. 2 losses in regional, super-regional or CWS and a team is out for the year. A new group of players join the continuing players, to try again next year. Sometimes new coaches come in for the next year, too. Easy to second-guess things. All done....a great year for Arkansas. A lot of classy people involved. Hope NC State wins it all in Omaha. It would put a mini-trophy in Hog fan's minds.

Arkansas can possibly go down as one of the most disappointing teams of all time. All of the regular season success, a powerhouse #1 team, plus players decided to skip the mlb draft to give it one more shot and to not even make the cws is inexcusable. Manager made a bad call sending Kobb back out in the 9th. You can see in that 8th he got lucky getting out that inning scoreless.
That's a shame
