I do not believe Disney has enough consciousness about race to be able to explore Killmonger's racial struggles with the nuance they deserved.... Also the f was that last CGI battle?, it was a total Mummy's Dwayne Johnson situation...
Unfortunately, I agree, given how they explored Killmonger's character and motivations. I would have loved a more empathetic and deeply explored version of the character. Oh, that last battle was something else, very subpar for Marvel's generally well-executed CG scenes.
I have to disagree I do think that Black Panther is the best marvel movie. The only solo movie that stands by its own and forces the protagonist to watch himself and question what he thinks. That and the acting, music and scenarios are all amazing.
I disagree there. Infinity War and Endgame were brilliant, and Civil War was really good. Iron Man 1 and 2 stand on their own and challenge the protagonist's perspectives as well. Their villains aren't much better, but the movies also don't try to tackle what Black Panther tried. The acting was good, definitely. Scenarios, I wouldn't necessarily say so, and I can't say I found the music as impactful as generally seen.
@@ithinkicanwrite I don't find much of value in Iron man 2. and Saying that the villains aren't much better is underwhelming. The villains of the iron man movies are plainly bad, no point in comparing them to Killmonger.
@@Chatedh Ah, I was just making a comparison for the sake of an analogy. As for more pertinent comparisons, I would say Bucky and Thanos were both better 'villains' than Killmonger, for all the reasons listed in the video. And if Bucky isn't seen as a villain, because Winter Soldier's villain was more-so HYDRA, having infiltrated SHIELD, Thanos remains as a good example of how a well-written, complex, and nuanced villain should be.
@@ithinkicanwrite Again, I have to disagree. Killmonger being a hypocrite and blood thirsty doesn't remove from his nuance. People are like that, specially someone willing to do a bloody revolution as he was. Persoally I related to Killmonger's character a lot on the movie, the changes you propose would have made it seem too much like a good guy in my eyes. Removing the need for Black Panther to fight him.
@@Chatedh But, if he is just bloodthirsty, hyopcritical, and one-dimensional, where is said nuance? Precisely, the changes would bring nuance and uncertainty, making the character more empathetic and dividing the audience more through their complexity. Black Panther would still have to fight him as they have opposing perspectives. Regardless of Killmonger's personality or approach, him trying to arm everyone and destabilise countries still goes against T'Challa's perspectives and goals.
one the contrary Killmonger hypocrisy is what makes him more than a one note villain, is real goal is vengeance pure and simple and he uses noble goals but really he doesn't care about wakanda's future; in fact he hates Wakanda so it makes sense to destroy it's future.
But if he only wanted to destroy Wakanda from within, he could have done so without talking about the anarchic rhetoric he talks about and putting such a large scale plan in motion. Killmonger knew how to destabilise countries, he didn't have to resort to anything he didn't have to do. His expertise should let him know Wakanda is useful, even as only a tool.
Black Panther 2 writers, hit me up, ya know? ☎️📞
Can I hit you up instead? 👀

T'challa's loyalty is not to the world, but to wakanda. That's what gives The character his edge.

I agree, the inconsistency was real with this one.

Ye, he was just pretty much the bad guy as the movie needed a bad guy.
Kinda, which is such a shame.
