- This is the 2nd Attempt at Eco-printing THAT Blouse! If you watched my previous video: "2 Eco-printed cotton shirts - ONE worked but ONE DIDN'T PRINT!" you'll know how the blouse featured in this video is proving to be a challenge! This blouse has turned out to be a huge EXPERIMENT. After four failed attempts at getting an outcome I liked, this video shows how I pre-mordanted the blouse in (1) a mixture of milk/water and tea and (2) Alum and washing soda, before printing with leaves pre-soaked in iron water for 27 hours. I'm putting details of the amounts of mordant used (and why I've chosen them) on my Patreon site for my patrons who are supporting me making this videos. After the blouse was unbundled, how did it turn out? Watch this short video and see just how surprising results can be - even when they aren't what we expect, they can still be vibrant and colourful!
THE MATERIALS USED IN THIS PROJECT:
1 second hand cotton blouse (previously eco-printed 4 times)
2 x pre-mordants
Rust/iron solution - to soak leaves
*Leaves from my home and neighbour:
Fresh and fallen Eucalyptus leaves
Maple leaves
A stick and twine
Scissors and rubber gloves
Boiling water with red and yellow onion skins

Very nice ideas
Thank you ☺
It's Looking amazing and fabulous...and the honest way you making your vedio is really appreciable. Thank you for sharing.
Shivram Singh thank you. It makes me feel good to hear you like the video. I appreciate that.
As you had hoped for or not, the final result was beautiful! Subscribed :)
Dylan Knight that's fantastic!
Lovely result.. i like your experiment.. tq from Indonesia..
Thank you!
Lovely, but I have found that Eucalyptus leaves don’t need a mordant at all.
You're correct Neena Me. I used a mordant because I was also using other leaves and wasn't sure if they were substansive dyes like the eucalyptus leaves. I also tend to use a mordant on cotton as I've found cotton does not print as easily as silk or wool/felt.
Hi there.. I am loving your videos and have subscribed!☺.. I am really struggling tho with the eck printing.. I used white vinegar to presoak my cotton.. I then boiled the bundles for 2 hours in alum and vinegar.. There were no prints.. I'm in the UK and struggling to find the right recipe... can you advise at all please? I'm desperate to get a reasonable result as I'm becoming despondent with no results... help ... help please 😣 xx
Sorry S Perrins, I've only just seen your question. You may like to read the instructions on this website: www.madebybarb.com/2017/11/05/eco-printing-on-cotton/
Hola que mordientes uso. Gracias
Experimenté con mordientes no tradicionales, por eso no funcionó tan bien.
Que mordientes uso?
Hola de nuevo María. He agregado subtítulos (closed captions) en español para ti. Y los mordientes están en el video. ¡Feliz experimentación!
Im trying that but i didnt get that print
monit rudakiya Some materials are resistant to natural prints. I would suggest you try printing on wool or silk first as they readily accept natural dye. It may also be that the plant material you are using are not giving up any dye. Also, if you use eucalyptus leaves, you will need to heat for a long time.
Maravilloso!! Pero en español? Sorry
Hola, he agregado subtítulos (closed captions) en español para ti. Te explico los mordientes en el video. Disfrute, y gracias por mirar!
How much onion skin do you use?
As much as I've managed to collect! The more you use, the stronger the colour. At least two big handfuls.
Thank you. I tried it. :)@@AannshaJones
How were your results @@joycelinleahy2908 ?
Interesting and beautiful - not enough onions though...looking forward to the next 'adventure'. :)@@AannshaJones
@@joycelinleahy2908 It's good to keep a journal of all of your adventures and experiments, to refer back to.
