Awesome Steve. I'm glad you have given me a path beyond the SL1 for when 'the time comes'. I'm curious about the external red TTL converters in use with Canon. Is my TTL conversion circuit inside my housing and these simply are part of the cable assembly? Thanks for an an amazing video. Now the fun. Make another one showing how you get all that packed safely in the box. ;) Also, do you pack your camera in the housing and do you pack the strobes with the batteries? You didn't address these items and I think they may be relevant.

That is correct! We used to build the TTL into the housing, but having it separate allows more flexibility for users.. the TTL works the same way. It’s just in the cord now. It is also easy now to turn it on or off. I have packed the camera inside the housing before, but some people frown on this. I almost always leave my batteries attached to the strobes (otherwise, there are some exposed pins). My favorite way to pack them in the box is to put all the small parts and pieces into padded lens bags.. this way, I don't need dividers or foam.

Perhaps, on a different video, can you explain how to use the TTL converter when you're shooting manual? I thought the TTL converter was only when shooting in non-manual mode such as aperture priority.

That’s such a great question. All DSLR and mirrorless cameras and almost every compact digital camera made in the past few years supports TTL strobe exposure in the manual camera exposure mode. So you can set aperture, shutter speed, and ISO independently while using TTL strobe exposure. It’s a powerful way to shoot either wide angle or macro and is especially good for fast moving subjects. We’re actually in preproduction on a video about that topic right now so look for it soon!

Thank you. I watch all your videos weekly. I've had Ikelite since the 1990s. Great stuff. And great customer service. Why go anyplace else.@@ikelite

    Thank you.
Do you take the case on the plane or do you check it?

Most often we put them through as checked baggage. Generally we don’t recommend putting cameras or lenses in checked baggage. If you want to carry-on you could leave your camera body inside of the housing. But of course you need to make sure the dimensions of the case meet carry-on requirements.

@@ikelite - you may want to read some of the airlines fine print as many do not insure for photo equipment if lost or damaged - this is way I always carry-on my camera gear in a backpack (40 lbs) (I check the housing, lights, etc) and if someone questions me at boarding about the weight of my backpack camera gear, I show them my spreadsheet of its costs & their policy they don't insure it as checked luggage - knock on wood, I have not had an issue yet

Hi steve... are u using canons' rf to ef adapter? Can a third party adapter fit the housing?

We haven’t tested any of the other adapters. If they are the same length as the Canon (1”) then the port recommendations would be the same. But it could be a concern if the adapter has any projection on the side.
