That's kind of a personal question. How are you going to use the internet? Just going to check your email once a week? just use your cellphone and if you don't have service check your email when you go to town. OR do you NEED internet 24/7? then you need multiple sources of internet... ATT, verizon, t-moblie boosters antenna's and the newish starlink combined, so the answer to your question is you have to figure out what you need/want what you are willing to pay for and you can have pretty good internet pretty much anywhere you travel. For us we stream alot so 1 cell service and starlink work 95% of the time.
In addition to going paperless, my husband and I set up an email account that is dedicated to bills only. It’s been great for keeping track of bills and not getting mixed in with our regular emails.
The one thing we have found to be the hardest is depositing cash into a bank account. We sold something and wanted to deposit it into our bank account, you would be surprised how many atm's don't accept cash deposits and then if they do they don't accept them for an out of network bank. Do you guys have a work around for that? I would like to add that when we sold our sticks and bricks a few years ago we were hell bent on not having a storage unit. Figured we would just buy anything that we needed when we settled down again. BEST decision ever!!! We took pictures of stuff that was hard to let go of, scanned all our photo albums, legal papers... You know what? You are quick to figure out you don't even miss any of it!!! I can honestly say I don't miss anything and I truly mean anything we let go of!!! in the moment it seems tuff but trust me 6' under did any of the stuff matter? Enjoy the journey! When you are on your death bed are you going to remember aunt Nel's ring? or are you going to remember the time you slipped on a rock in Tennessee? Stuff doesn't matter!!!!
All good advice Bob. Yes, we've figured out the banking issues. Our credit union is part of a nation wide co-op that allows us to physically enter a co-op branch and deposit cash like we were at our home location. We've used this service a number of times and it works well.
We've been with AM since 2010 when their office was in Rapid CIty and 4 months later they built the new office in Box Elder, LOL. We've had five RVs since 2008 varying from 12' to 35' and I swear I need a pole barn building w/14' a garage door and a place to park 6 RVs. We love the big rig parks and work in summer out of a big rig park where we manage 16 USFS Campgrounds for our concessionaire employer. Going to each of these campgrounds (they range from old school to newly remodeled), we often dream of going deep into the canyons where only tents or tiny Class B's can fit. Many of our Camp Hosts sites can't fit in their RV sites over 30-32'. We currently have a 23' Lance travel trailer we bought in 2017 that is equipped for back woods boondocking when we were managing a 200-site snowbird RV campground in central FL. We know that we can't put a Class B on the back of a Class 8 truck, so after full-timing since 2008 we have had everything (travel trailers, hybrids, truck campers, and two Peterson Industries Excel 5W's. We have downsized 8 different times and still feel like we have too much stuff. I think we need to attend an HDT Rally, maybe then we would forget about those tiny rigs that only suit 33% of our full-timing lifestyle. What I want to figure out is how to get the ATV or the Side by Side to the trailhead when you have camped 30 miles away and the HDT or the Toy Hauler can't fit into the trailhead. The big toy hauler won't fit into the USFS campground 1/4 mile away either. I feel like we have 90% of the answer, but 14 years of full-timing hasn't answered our questions, LOL. We love to tow a jeep, but towing doubles or a very long HDT for us, maybe ... lol. Keep up the good work! ;-)
@@SuiteTravels I was 46 in 2008 when I was downsized from aerospace, I felt like I could do anything, but RVing was more traditional back and less young folks. Back then the trend was to get an MDT and that was my plan until we met Jack and eventually Gregg Sheilds which forced me to raise my bar, lol. We found a state park in IL that can fit bigger rigs which is important when visiting the grandbabies. When I say big rigs, parked next to us in April in the nearly empty State Park campground ($20/night, electric only) was one of the busses for Cheap Trick which must have been visiting family themselves. Always enjoy your videos. We purged (sold everything) in July, retired in August, and left the day after Labor Day! That was in 2016. We spent two years living on our boat and learned quickly how little you really need on a daily basis. Enjoy life!

Great video. Congrats on 43 year!! My rule of thumb is, if you don't use it within a year get rid of it. I use a lot of plastic wear and silverwear and only keep a few plates and glasses. Lucky for me I'm not a huge cloth person so I do will in that area. My biggest worry is maintencance since I travel alone. I rely on companies - service stations to help me but sometimes I feel they take advantage. Love your videos!. You both are realistic and speak the true of your experience. Towables are hard for me because of the set up. For security I like the idea where you can get up and go vs having to hook up. Don't like pulling cars. If I'm going to stay a long time I rent a car, saves on maintenance and extra gas and hookup issues.

We're finding that we need to purge at least once a year Michael. You're right...it's never ending! We've never been to Glamis but have driven by it a few times. It looks crowded!
Thanks Gerald. We use USPS General Delivery if it's sent by US Mail. If it's UPS or Fedex we have them delivered to a local package service in town. They charge by the package, so we try and order everything we need before we arrive.
Great info. We've got to do better on the purging............ We got Starlink about 2 months ago and love it. so far only 1 location I didn't even attempt to use it because of the tree cover we had at a lake. Otherwise I've been lucky enough to find areas where it works greatl.
For clothing You could try what my wife does at home for her hanging stuff. Take all your hangers and turn them around. When you wear something and hang it backup turn the hangers around on those items. After a certain time period go through it and everything hanging backwards still needs to be purged. If it's backwards after 3-6 months you have Not worn it 👌👍
Hi guys!! Great information and I agree it's very hard to purge items!! I have way to many coffee cups, but each one was a gift from grandkids or our kids, so it's very hard to let them go. We got rid of our storage last year and only kept what fits in the loft of my craft shed. Boxes of family pictures went to our eldest daughter to sort out. Another thing that has been hard for me to purge is my antique quilt collection. Some handed down from family and some I've bought over the years. 12 archival boxes I need to go thru!! I have an Etsy shop and hubby keeps hinting I need to list most of them. One day...😁 Thanks for sharing this info with us. 💜
We definitely know that story Carol! It's the family heirlooms that we ponder about the most. If our kids aren't interested, then we're not sure what to do. As far as everyday items - we think we've got that figured out.
We're just starting the transition process. Currently working with Mike at Rolling Retreats to finalize our DRV order. Got the truck order started. Purging and house prep for sale is next. On the road just over a year. I did well with dishes, bowls and only packed 2 of each but packed flatware for 6 just because. I did have to purchase a couple new cookware items because I didn’t know special items were required for induction!🤦🏼♀️ My clothing is the worst! I donate items when I buy new but I think someone’s sneaking items in my closet!😉😂🤣 Love this video! Y’all are awesome!

When it comes to the topic of budgets , you might want not to worry so much about the money aspect , but address just the categories (fuel , food , etc) , which in turn would make more time to cover , in depth , some of the sub-categories that need to be discussed as well ! If nothing else it will trigger those issues that need to be considered as costs !
First off... 43 years. Wow!! And congratulations!! I think the only completely honest and applicable answer you can give to someone considering this lifestyle with (natural) apprehensions is: 'Nothing is insurmountable'. For every other question - or fear - the correct answer for your circumstances will be worked out after you begin. I solved two issues you mentioned - meeting people and a $900 budget for site rental - by becoming a Workamper. A 'free' site and everyone knows who you are. It's difficult to give the definitive answer as our needs and wants change the further down our RV journey that we are. I *absolutely needed* a 42' fifth wheel and a dually. Well, then I decided to get a home base in south Texas (Retama Village). I am very comfortable here. Especially with the price of diesel, it has become of less importance to spend half the year on the road this year. Now I'm thinking I should downsize to a bumper-pull and a pickup that I can park within walking distance of the grocery store. My advice to someone starting out would be to be frugal and travel slowly. Keep records to learn about yourself. Adapt accordingly. There isn't one thing that can happen to you that hasn't already happened to a hundred other RV-ers and, as you mention, the RV community is the most helpful and outgoing group of people I've ever met.

How about talking about your vehicle insurance cost and recommendations, as many insurance companies are starting to bock at insuring non commercial HDT’s.
It seems that it depends on which underwriter gets the request with many companies Johnathon. We use an independent agency for all our vehicle insurance and we discuss our options every year with them. They seem to be able to get us decent rates with a few different providers.

Planning to head over with our right hand drive European demountable camper (very small truck/ slide camper by US standards) from UK to Charleston SC next January for our extended road trip. Have been researching practicalities, insurance, diesel nozzles compatible, add blue availability, GPL gas connections, internet options, camping options etc. Would love to meet up with you guys if our paths cross.
Our auto insurance costs seem to rise every year as well Jack, but to put it in perspective, we're paying about the same on the HDT as we were on our 2010 Ram dually.

I through out stuff I didn’t need or want anymore. And sone stuff got broke too. The Lakers broke some stuff. It feels good when you get rid of struggling. I also got rid of some clothes. No we don't Dennis, but we noticed there are a few that offer multiple states now and when we start to travel back east again we'll research some more. For the most part, traveling out west we really don't need them. We just tell our GPS to avoid tolls.
I soooo need to talk to you two! I’m retiring at the end summer of 23. I own my own house and am a widower. My mom passed on 12/28/21 and I have inherited all her stuff. This stuff is antiques and collectibles and I have to purge my house of all this stuff plus furniture. Nothing is going into storage. I’ve already given away many things. What’s the best way to purge all this stuff? I also have camping gear collected from the past 30 years. Excellent video! Thanks for it!
It's definitely a process! That's why we suggest starting the purge at least a year in advance. For the keepsakes that we have to have, there are a few options out there that will allow reasonable storage. It sounds like you're getting it started correctly. We actually find purging rather liberating!
I have a question on internet. Please I would like to know your choice in router? Why? Also do it or will it cover the. Semi on the road and how is the router connected with a power source to provide internet to the HDT?
Hi John. You can't go wrong with either a Cradlepoint router or the Pepwave. Pepwave has just come out with the 5G CAT 20 router at an unbelievable price. We've found that the wifi signal from the router is spotty in the truck while traveling - but we have ours mounted in the rear of the coach.
I’ve noticed you guys always wear a coat or sweatshirt in the rv hauler when it’s cold out why ? Doesn’t your rig have sufficient heat? Just asking because I’ve driven for almost 30 plus years and I don’t like wearing a coat when I drive for comfort.

Hi Tony....we remember you! We use Miller Insurance Agency in Oregon for all our vehicles. They have the RV and truck on separate policies, but they must be insured together with the same company.
Great idea Lina....we're not sure. If we did it again, we'd donate the RV mattress and buy a new one. There must be plenty of shelters that need new mattresses.

We definitely know that story Carol! It's the family heirlooms that we ponder about the most. If our kids aren't interested, then we're not sure what to do. As far as everyday items - we think we've got that figured out.
We're just starting the transition process. Currently working with Mike at Rolling Retreats to finalize our DRV order. Got the truck order started. Purging and house prep for sale is next. On the road just over a year. I did well with dishes, bowls and only packed 2 of each but packed flatware for 6 just because. I did have to purchase a couple new cookware items because I didn’t know special items were required for induction!🤦🏼♀️ My clothing is the worst! I donate items when I buy new but I think someone’s sneaking items in my closet!😉😂🤣 Love this video! Y’all are awesome!

When it comes to the topic of budgets , you might want not to worry so much about the money aspect , but address just the categories (fuel , food , etc) , which in turn would make more time to cover , in depth , some of the sub-categories that need to be discussed as well ! If nothing else it will trigger those issues that need to be considered as costs !

First off... 43 years. Wow!! And congratulations!!
I think the only completely honest and applicable answer you can give to someone considering this lifestyle with (natural) apprehensions is: 'Nothing is insurmountable'. For every other question - or fear - the correct answer for your circumstances will be worked out after you begin. I solved two issues you mentioned - meeting people and a $900 budget for site rental - by becoming a Workamper. A 'free' site and everyone knows who you are.
It's difficult to give the definitive answer as our needs and wants change the further down our RV journey that we are. I *absolutely needed* a 42' fifth wheel and a dually. Well, then I decided to get a home base in south Texas (Retama Village). I am very comfortable here. Especially with the price of diesel, it has become of less importance to spend half the year on the road this year. Now I'm thinking I should downsize to a bumper-pull and a pickup that I can park within walking distance of the grocery store.
My advice to someone starting out would be to be frugal and travel slowly. Keep records to learn about yourself. Adapt accordingly. There isn't one thing that can happen to you that hasn't already happened to a hundred other RV-ers and, as you mention, the RV community is the most helpful and outgoing group of people I've ever met.

How about talking about your vehicle insurance cost and recommendations, as many insurance companies are starting to bock at insuring non commercial HDT’s.
It seems that it depends on which underwriter gets the request with many companies Johnathon. We use an independent agency for all our vehicle insurance and we discuss our options every year with them. They seem to be able to get us decent rates with a few different providers.

Planning to head over with our right hand drive European demountable camper (very small truck/ slide camper by US standards) from UK to Charleston SC next January for our extended road trip. Have been researching practicalities, insurance, diesel nozzles compatible, add blue availability, GPL gas connections, internet options, camping options etc. Would love to meet up with you guys if our paths cross.

Ours has almost doubled in the last 3-4 years with the only change is a newer used pickup.
Our auto insurance costs seem to rise every year as well Jack, but to put it in perspective, we're paying about the same on the HDT as we were on our 2010 Ram dually.

I through out stuff I didn’t need or want anymore. And sone stuff got broke too. The Lakers broke some stuff. It feels good when you get rid of struggling. I also got rid of some clothes. Thank you for the other tips you mentioned too! All of those will help as you travel on the road.

No we don't Dennis, but we noticed there are a few that offer multiple states now and when we start to travel back east again we'll research some more. For the most part, traveling out west we really don't need them. We just tell our GPS to avoid tolls.

I soooo need to talk to you two! I’m retiring at the end summer of 23. I own my own house and am a widower. My mom passed on 12/28/21 and I have inherited all her stuff. This stuff is antiques and collectibles and I have to purge my house of all this stuff plus furniture. Nothing is going into storage. I’ve already given away many things. What’s the best way to purge all this stuff? I also have camping gear collected from the past 30 years. Excellent video! Thanks for it!

It's definitely a process! That's why we suggest starting the purge at least a year in advance. For the keepsakes that we have to have, there are a few options out there that will allow reasonable storage. It sounds like you're getting it started correctly. We actually find purging rather liberating!

Not full timers, but we purge everything in the RV 1x a year. If it hasn't been used in a year. There are a few exceptions, but not many.

I have a question on internet. Please I would like to know your choice in router? Why? Also do it or will it cover the. Semi on the road and how is the router connected with a power source to provide internet to the HDT?
Hi John. You can't go wrong with either a Cradlepoint router or the Pepwave. Pepwave has just come out with the 5G CAT 20 router at an unbelievable price. We've found that the wifi signal from the router is spotty in the truck while traveling - but we have ours mounted in the rear of the coach.

Hi Tony....we remember you! We use Miller Insurance Agency in Oregon for all our vehicles. They have the RV and truck on separate policies, but they must be insured together with the same company.
When you buy an RV, can you request not to have a mattress in it?
Great idea Lina....we're not sure. If we did it again, we'd donate the RV mattress and buy a new one. There must be plenty of shelters that need new mattresses.
