Good review. I test drove both Corolla Cross hybrid and GR Sport but the test drive roads are short (about 1-2km) at low speed with many other vehicles on the roads so can't really do a proper evaluation. As a result I felt the handling of both hybrid and GR Sport is almost the same without any difference. It's good to know you find a difference with the stiffer suspension which provides better handling. Having said that the steering feels a bit heavier on the GR sport which feels better for handling.
One big difference between the hybrid and non-hybrid GR Sport is the acceleration power in hard acceleration. The GR Sport feels much more powerful than the hybrid during hard acceleration. The hybrid feels underpowered and lethargic when you do hard acceleration with a loud and weird engine sound. The sound of the engine from GR Sport is much muted and sounds normal during hard acceleration, and it accelerates quicker and is more responsive than the Hybrid. The hybrid is only good in petrol saving and low speed acceleration. If you frequently do hard acceleration and attack bends and corners, or you want less floaty feel, the GR Sport is a much better choice.
