  • The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God. Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out
Good morning! Here is today’s word of blessings for you.
    2 Samuel 6:1-8
1David again brought together all the able young men of Israel-thirty thousand. 2 He and all his men went to Baalah in Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the Name, the name of the Lord Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim on the ark. 3 They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart 4 with the ark of God on it, and Ahio was walking in front of it. 5 David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with castanets, harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums and cymbals. 6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. 7 The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God. 8 Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out
Today’s title is “I did it out of Love though"
Every parent loves their children. They love them so much. They sacrifice for the children everything they possibly can. Still, the children do not always seem to appreciate it. Many children would rather complain about such overflowing love of their own parents. How come? Although parents are well-meaning all the time, they can be mistaken too. Parents occasionally presume that children will appreciate anything if they do for them out of love. If the children do not, they tend to blame the children either for their immaturity or ungratefulness. That can cause a serious problem between parents and children unless they resolve it fast out of greater love and understanding for each other. A situation like that could happen in our relationship with God too. We may do something with the assumption that it will please God. Unfortunately, It may end up displeasing God. Who is to blame? Should we blame ourselves or blame God for not understanding and accepting our act of love? We see an answer to such a question in today’s passage. David genuinely loved God. He not only trusted and obeyed God but also spontaneously volunteered to do things for God without being asked or required by God. His desire to build the temple of God was a good example of such a heart for God in David. With the same passionate love for God, David was trying to bring the ark of God which was still in the house of Abinadab since it was sent back by the Philistines who captured it in a battle against Israel. For the special and symbolic occasion, David prepared many things painstakingly. He brought together all the able young men of Israel-thirty thousand. He prepared a new cart to carry it. He planned a huge celebration of it with all kinds of musical instruments. But When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the oxen stumbled. The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah who was guiding the new cart because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down. Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out. What a dramatic turn of celebration! What could have been the irreverent act of Uzzah? It does not tell clearly in this passage. It seems David couldn’t understand what God has done either. David later came to understand why. “It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the first time that the Lord our God broke out in anger against us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in a prescribed way.”( 1 chronicle 15:13). We should serve the Lord out of love. At the same time, our expression of love for God must be humbly guided by His words. It cannot be one or the other.
