He wanted to show they weren't ready yes, but he also wanted to die. His character is extremely tortured by the guilt of what he did.
Viki: "The Last Survivor....." *slowly starts dying*
Hans Zimmer - Way of Life. One of the most beautiful scores ever created
small measure of peace is better
he has to many top epic scores dude the guy is just beyond
They filmed this beautiful film, one of my greatest favorites back home in NZ 🇳🇿 and I really love this movie!!! So emotional 😭 😢😢😢 enjoy Homies lovies ❤❤❤
Tom Cruise is perhaps my favorite actor. He does great in every role. If you want to see an entirely different character for him unlike any other he has done, i recommend "Collateral," starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox.
This is one of my favorite movies! The shots, the music and the actors are amazing :) Can't wait for part 2.!
There is a part 2 , they hid it behind a paywall..
I also recommend Dances with Wolves, the story is very similar, in this case instead of samurais, it's the Indians.
20:40 - regarding the comment that Taka and the village members are "kind" to take in Algren. My read on it is a little different. At this point in the movie, it's not "kindness" that informs Taka's actions to care for Algren. In fact she actually loathes him at this point in the movie. We get a glimpse of this when she says to her nephew, Nobutada that he "stinks". We get further confirmation when Taka goes Katsumoto and asks that he send Algren away or that she be allowed to commit ritualistic suicide so she can end the shame of having to care for husband's killer. It's not kindness, rather as Japanese culture (not just Samurai) even today, they often supress their true feelings in subjugation to rules and hierarchy.
Hi Viki & Michelle, as for the rain scene where the cpt. Olgren takes a beating from Ujio, he continued to get up despite the beatings, because he wanted the wife (Taka) and son (Higen) of the (red) samurai (Hirotaro) killed by him to be somehow satisfied by seeing him suffer and take punishment, as long as his body held up. It was also a way to make it clear that he was sorry. In fact, after that evening, relations improved, because he demonstrated not only that he had a strong spirit but that he was also sorry for the pain he inflicted.
The Last Samurai wouldn't be the same without it's beautiful soundtrack. Great reaction, i always had the question why you both didn't react before when we saw Lia and Ellie do it.
Please consider reacting to Men of Honor.
One of my favorite movies ever made :) Saw it in 06 and was lucky enough to travel to Japan in 07.
It's just as beautiful in real life and I have a existential fear that I'll never get the chance to go back 😢😭😭💘🥰💘🥰💘🥰💘🥰💘🥰
Fuck, Hans Zimmer's soundtrack is haunting and inspiring. It's perfect 💘🥰💗💗💗
Algren is racked with guilt, both over what he's done and that he's survived it. He wants to die.
When he forces the guy to shoot at him, he's hoping that guy hits him and kills him 💔😭
The story in broad strokes is very similar to that of Dances with Wolves, Avatar and Pocahontas. It is a story that has been told in several movies, that of the soldier who deserts his own army to join the enemy, because he learns to know him, to love him, to understand him and love his culture and will join them to defend them.
should watch Into The West, a Mini-series about the US Expansion into the west from the 1840s to the Wounded Knee massacre and afterwords of the 1890s such a great series
That guy tries to kill Jackie Chan in Rush hour 3 , too. Not just Tom Cruise. 🤣
32:59 Vicki saying "die, bitch" gives me life.
the music in this film is perfect
When the ninjas came and she says "Die, bitch" haha YES thumbs up!
“If my brother deserves it, should I punish him? If my enemy deserves it should I respect him? Yes.” -Mongol Oirat proverb
I recommend watching the movies with both headphones, because listening to one side is not the same, you lose a lot of the surround sound of the movie, you lose the music, the sound experience is as important as the image. Believe me that listening with both headphones is a completely different experience and they will like the movies more, it is heard the same if the colleague comments something even if they have both headphones on, if it is for that reason that they use only 1 headphone, it is not worth it, miss the complete sound experience, put on both headphones.
So many reactors do that, and for the life me I don't know why. Might as well put a color filter on the video too so the film color is less vibrant.
@@blanketstarry7725 Listening to movies with a single earphone sounds horrible, an essential part of movies is lost, which is surround sound, great specialists work to give us impressive mixes such as Dolby Atmos, DTS sound and these UA-cam reactors listen with a single earphone, incredible. They use a single earphone to be able to hear when their friend comments something, it seems absurd to me, even if you have 2 earphones on, you still hear your friend speak, it is not a valid reason to use only 1 earphone and miss out on appreciating the great sound that these have movies, movies will earn much more by listening to them correctly.
This is “dances with wolves” set in Japan.
The men in Black were the paid Assassins “NINJA 🥷”
Mich crying... that is something I do not see often if at all! This is a superb movie. I truly enjoy it every time I see it. The story was a bit predictable but still, I truly like it and is extremely well done. Respect for the Samurai!
the samurai opposed to the Meijei restoration weren't doing so to "save the soul of Japan" they were doing it because they had no place in modern Japan. the feudal system was what kept them in power, and it was ending.
I love your hair, thank you for reacting to this movie! It's one of my favorites :D
Love this reaction 🤩. What a great movie
Girl in the white sweater is so emotional, I would love to know who she is and follow her. She has a real soul and her eyes tell all her feelings. I am hard crushing on her lol.
The lady in the white sweater is so compassionate, I want to see so much more of her.
If you want to watch a truly beautiful movie about the collapse of the samurai system watch The Twilight Samurai, which also stars Hiroyuki Sanada and won lots of international awards. I guarantee you guys will love it.
By the way, this movie has the running "Bob" joke that appears in Tom Cruise movies. Watch "Oblivion" for more on that! Oblivion is a really good Tom Cruise sci-fi movie too. It has the benefit of having Olga Kurylenko in it.
ps the real Last Samurai, Saigo Takamori, was a gigantic ugly guy - who loved large fat geishas (Im not making that up). He was very different to Ken Watanabe. Ken Watanabe does a great job of playing the great Japanese general Tadamichi Kuribayashi in Letters from Iwo Jima, which is also a fantastic movie. Clint Eastwood was given an honorary knighthood by the Japanese emperpor because of that movie.
pps if you watch carefully during the fight inside the house you can see one of the "dead" ninjas on the floor roll across the floor out of the way of the remaining people standing. And one of those fuzzy microphone things at the top of the picture. Hilariously bad editing.
The Last Survivor, not quite Viki 😂 (to be fair watching Lone Survivor around the same time as this may explain that little slip up). Seriously though this was a beautiful reaction to a beautiful movie. Well done ladies. Thank You Michelle & Viki.
I’m fairly new to your channel and enjoying it. If you haven’t watched Planes Trains and Automobiles yet it’s a great movie all of you would love I’m sure. Also it’s pretty much a must see during the Thanksgiving season.
There is a samurai movie called Kakushi Ken Oni no Tsume.
I'm not sure you understand how headphones work. When is in Stereo mode (now is the standard), you get some sounds on the left, some on the right, and some on both.
You have to have the headphones in both ears. This movie in particular have an amazing Soundtrack (which I purchased). You are missing a lot of sounds with those little headphones.
The Japanese actor who is the co-lead with Tom Cruise in this movies acted in another movie the Letters from Iwo Jima (the Japanese view)...it was also a very unforgettable movie.
"It's super unrespectable to attack them in the back when they're not expecting it." No, that's the best time to attack. All is fair in love and war. Kill your enemies quickly and quietly when they least expect it. Don't waste your soldier's lives on making a spectacle.
I have been married to a Japanese women for over 20 years... As for the wife of the killed samurai, all I will say is honne and tatemae. Look it up and it will explain everything.
My fav Flick of Tom cruise 🔥👑
The last survivor sounds good too 🎉
I absolute love this movie. Ken Watanabe is amazing. Also please consider reacting to Downfall.
Tom Cruz is nuttier than a snickers bar, but I do love this movie. Great reaction as always
Oh gosh I really enjoyed this movie wow ❤❤
"it's not fair."
When people are fighting with their lives on the line it is often not fair. If I were fighting for my life, I would want every advantage I could get. Most Americans would. It's why the concepts of samurai and bushido (the code samurai live by) are so foreign to us. The samurai believed dying for your master was a great honor, but our general Patton once said, "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country." It's not pretty, but it's American to the core.
@Marcus From Wikipedia:
Bushido developed between the 16th and 20th centuries, debated by pundits who believed they were building on a legacy dating back to the 10th century, although the term bushido itself is "rarely attested in pre-modern literature".
So yes, the term may be more modern, but not the concept.
Great film
$500 then would be $15,000 now.
nice choice ladies
Great movie, loosely based on a true story and an amazing score by Hans Zimmer.
R they eastern European? " I luv suki!" Lol 🤣 sounds about right. 😂
Lol this is the 7 single video of reactions on this film in this channel, but it's still not enough LUL
Anyone else think of the song Shiroyama by Sabaton after watching this? Lol
Да, битч))
Such a beautiful movie, but the story about samurai is not accurate, the katana was just a backup weapon, the main weapon was the bow for a samurai and later they used firearm as soon they wear available. But this war did happen, but the samurais are not like that. And there were to many samurais, so some of them were thieves n very poor, it wasn’t like 200 years earlier.
Good reaction but please fix the sound quality! Just with good quality sound from the movie would make this like twice or trice as good! Thank you :)
The redhead is so darn cute
Only reactions I see are yawning 😂😂
In traditonal japanese culture there is no diffrence between a wooden training sword and a real sword. both a considered real weapons.
Absolutely Beautiful Movie..Its one of Tom Cruises best Films because It wasn’t So much centered around him but more Yhe world that he Was in from the Civil war to the Bushido Culture
Movie is highly innacurate as to history.
Samurai DID indeed use guns.
The samurai did not wear the traditional armor in these battles as it was useless against bullets.
The Emperor's army was not a bunch of inexperienced, incompetent fighters, there were recent prior wars, many of them were veterans of.
Tom Cruise's character is based on not an American, but a Frenchman that went there to provide training and actually did become a samurai. Jules Brunet.
The samurai fought for their own clans, not the "honor of Japan" or any such nationalist sense.
The movie portrays Samurai following European chivalric ideals more often than proper Japanese Bushido.
In real life, samurai were extreme elitists, brutally oppressive against peasants, not very nice guys. They also cut off and collected fallen enemies heads after battle.
The sake part always gets me. Alcoholism is s horrible thing to suffer from
red hair looks nice
When is part 2 coming??
Viki is so funny 🤣
9:03 Mulan is Chinese not Japanese
It’s not set in Japan 🤣
you should make the movie screen bigger
where is part 2?
If y'all haven't watched 47 Ronin w/ Keanu Reeves. React to that.
Did she just say Mulan was set in Japan? LOL
love me some Michell
Realy part2?
Get a new scam this is so old lol 🖕🖕🖕🖖
Vicky is so gorgeous!😍
Edward Zwick is amazing
Happy Halloween
You need to see the *Mission: Impossible* series with Tom Cruise. The latest one comes out in 2023!
just a quick feedback. I would like if you would hide the the pictures and not the sound, I know this movie and it's much easier to follow if you wouldn't silence the sound.
They don't make movies like this anymore. Everything is in camera and not much CGI.
Patreon & Members Only content: Cool; Part 1 for Non-Members & Part 2 for Members Only: Not Cool. I love you guys, but this formula is a good way to alienate your loyal subscribers. If Part 2 will eventually be available to Non-Members (which I hope it will), you should let your subscribers know, right away. It's not rocket science, ... treat others the way you would like to be treated.
Modernization vs Traditionalism
michelle😍😍😍
16:06 "I love sake." I'll drink to that.
Pls react to Avatar 2 Official Trailet
Little dissapointed that you hide part 2 behind a paywall.
Can you please do Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie (1995)
would love to see you react to Rock of Ages with Tom Cruise in..
The way we did the Native Americans is a bloody stain on this country.... probably the worst ever.....
Last survivor? Sort of
Do I seriously have to become a member to watch the 2nd part? Will it come at a later date for non members? I feel -you should let people know about this before hand if it is not the case... I feel like I just wasted my time.
gracias reaccion malena por favor
Quality film
Samurai used guns too 😒
Do not steal our traditional drink Rakı, Viki. It's Turkish :)
Just kidding nazdrave!
Y'all need a better editor.
Great Movie but history was different. The peaple lived in fear and terror of the samurai. They where thankful when their time ended. And in fact, Samurai DID use firearms.
Guys I love you all to death but I really hope staggered releases of partial reactions to the same film is not about to become a marketing strategy for this channel. I've subscribed as a member a couple different times, but you are really going to lose a lot of subscribers with that tactic. Far more than you will gain as members.
You dod this in 2 parts and you STILL managed to cit so much as to make the story unwatchable. Really sad. 👎
Some advice, it is SUPER ANNOYING, I mean punch someone in the soft bits annoying, to be playing video with no damned sound!
You girls, she touches her hair and miraculously that means she likes him 🤔 but guys be missing that signal
