People need to appreciate how valuable UA-cam videos like are.
I started in the early 1970’s and we were lucky enough to have Japanese JKA instruction but only during local gradings, and even then the lessons were focused on the Kyu Grade syllabus.
So to get high level black belt instruction like this you had to go away for bespoke training courses.
In the 1980’s & 1990’s I would train on Sensei Enoeda’s spring and autumn courses for sessions just like this from his guest JKA instructors.
So you were limited to this quality of instruction to twice a year [or sometimes a couple more if other events were held]
And then you had to remember what you had learned to assimilate it.
so we Started to travel to Enoeda’s Dojo for extra training and even then it was pot luck on who was teaching and what level was being taught.
    …..
You still need to train in these sessions but you can now in these videos access reference to this knowledge at literally any time.
    …….
Thank you for posting these videos.

I am impressed with Sensei Akita's instruction. I speak neither Japanese nor German, however I was able to get a lot from the refinements in body dynamics expressed by Sensei in a simple and humble way. Informative and entertaining. Everyone here at this clinic seems to be a black belt, and this should help emphasize for the younger gyo that the training and learning is a lifetime thing. Thanks for posting.

Probably best Sensei in Germany, very good technician, but this is not the way Nakayama-Sensei taught this Kata, as performed by Asai-Sensei. The rythm is off at certain points. The kicks should be Kekomi, not Keage, so the upper body WILL go 45° back, especially that you're PULLING the opponent to you at the same time. And when doing the Tekubi Makiotoshi in Movement 16, you retract your left foot half a step toward right foot, you don't keep it in place. And it is not wrong to have your elbow up and the hand above your head when doing the Jodan Teisho in the same movement. That's even the standard. What he is showing here is a variation. And in Movement 19/20, it is OK to have your body slightly bent forwards, you don't have to keep a straight posture. And in Movement 26, you make a palm over your right elbow, not transform to a fist.

+sassuki You are torturing yourself my friend by swimming against the tide. The goal posts need to keep on shifting so that dumb gaigins never quite master it and kenshusei just 'ossu' to everything and blame themselves. They are of course never expected to think for themselves or say 'hang on a second. Last year you said something completely different'.

The kicks are neither kekomi nor keage, just lift your knee to avoid a kick to the ankle then punch. Not exactly rocket science.

ua-cam.com/video/oh3wQimXm3g/v-deo.html MDV communication Keio University version of Nijushiho... Very interesting the changes by Nakayama and Asai Sensei aren't all there. Knee lift to a stomp kick. Let's go back further and look at how Niseishi is done... Wow. Now let's get training.

Although I don't practice many parts of this kata as Akita Sensei was teaching it here, I think his principled reasoning makes a lot of sense for the differences he points out.
Is it really so radical to believe that a kata can (and should) be changed? One can argue that it is not "traditional" as it was taught by Nakayama, but then just look at the performance differences between Funakoshi Gichin, Funakoshi Yoshitaka, and Nakayama Masatoshi. Was everything "perfect" when Nakayama taught it? Perhaps was it just his own interpretation. The beautifully athletic (but highly impractical) jodan kekomi-geri in this kata were originally fumikomi! JKA has been making small changes to all of the kata every year for as long as I can remember.
Instead of nitpicking all these small form differences, it would be better to look at the underlying principles the kata teaches us. We should strive to build on the teachings of those masters who came before us, and evolve our own understanding of karate, not just thoughtlessly copy shapes.

@@johnjaydavid7215 not really. The sweeping arm motion is to turn the opponent around, bringing him to your other side and exposing his side and then to kick a kekomi to his knee or hip.
