After The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, Dragonlance came to me in a bookstore, because of the Red Dragon and some of the Heroes of the Lance on the cover - Dragons of Autumn Twilight. This was when I was in the 8th grade in 1984. Since then, I've been enamored with this series. I wasn't really interested in any other series. It is the only series (to my knowledge) that has extended into the world of Krynn like none other. I've recently just got back into Dragonlance and trying to catch up with all the books and start reading those. Dragonlance Saga is an absolute game-changer for me. It has reinvigorated my love for Dragonlance and that there is a community of like minded people who adore it. It was great to hear from one of the authors that started it all. Thank you so much for getting and sharing this interview! I agree how Dragonlance means something different for everyone. It was always a world for me that seemed so much bigger than the players can possibly influence, and yet one person can change the world. This has influenced deeply how I DM my games, where massive battles and magic great yet terrible change the landscape and the dynamics of the world. I try to make my players feel like their actions can and will affect the world, consequences and all. I am really excited about WotC FINALLY giving us a new Dragonlance campaign book, anything, I mean ANYTHING but another MTG source book. You asked If we could have Margaret Weis write a book in the Dragonlance world what would it be? I would definitely want another adventure with Iolanthe. She was powerful, mysterious, and her story with Raist/Kit was amazing in Highlord Skies/Hourglass Mage. A follow up story with her after she and Raistlin parted ways in Neraka would be amazing. She wanted power and was cunning but also had made true friends and more along the way. What does she do now?
Also, even though Weis didn’t write the preludes story Darkness and Light, I would give anything for a story about Cupelix and the “Red” Gnome finding a way to Krynn! The ending concerning them haunts me to this very day!

I don't think Wizards is interested in Weis & Hickman's view of Dragonlance, hence the 'Classics' moniker. The gaming will probably be set in the War of the Lance era (Age of Despair). I would be surprised if Weis & Hickman would redact all those stories, BUT, I like the idea of visiting or exploring the future that would have been if it weren't for Chaos.

@@DLSaga I think she was very clear about it, when she said "Well, not necessarily this has happend" - the timeline. Margaret is talking about a new modern timeline and we know she sometimes disagreed with things other authors has written in Dragonlance. She lets that shine through sometimes. In another interview she said, not all stories of Dragonlance out there were written with love. And hell yes, she's right. Maybe she and Tracy will try to clean things up. Wouldn't that be great? It doesn't mean to redact or throw away all this stuff out there. Hey, what you think - changing everything, would that trigger a lawsuit? :))))
For me, who read almost every Dragonlance Book and love also the stuff after chaos, I think it would be a bad ass move, and I would love it! But who knows, maybe I'm wrong :)

I watched the "Wheel of Time" Season One on Amazon recently (I liked it) and than I read the first couple of Robert Jordan's books but I am temporarily held up on the third book in the series. I don't see how it is for adults while Dragonlance is only a young adult book series and does not qualify for being the next big budget TV Show. Do people need intrigue that involves sexual relationships and potential or exposed conflicts stemming on characters staying on balance due to the shifting power core arrangement that exists. This is different than some clearly identifiable external enemy that often exists in young adult fiction. The motives of these enemies in Dragonlance need to be uncovered and therefore the plot thickens as events take place and characters lives change once they learn about what is happening and are able to be at the correct place where the opportunity is waiting to provide a turning point in the conflicts. I actually think that the "Wheel of Time" TV Show does a good job in leading up to character rebirth at the conclusion of Season One while giving all of the characters equal time to develop and it was fair to the book but it is also a new experience based on those old books. Wouldn't Dragonlance be fun to watch as a major TV Show? I think that I like the Dragonlance books quite a bit better but I don't believe that they are fresh and new anymore, not unless there was a new movie that could bring them back to the front.

    • @DLSaga
      @DLSaga  2 роки тому +2

The rights to Dragonlance had been in dispute for a long time, due to the animated film. I would like to think this is the real reason for the lack of films or series, but who knows. Dragonlance also has a lot of the sexuality and characters that turn against their friends, etc. I think it will be great if done right.

@@DLSaga I'm now looking at Dragon's of the Fallen Sun on my Kindle 11th Generation. I have to admit that I love the writing. It is a descriptive form of writing that feels complete to the individual word although this is not quite true but it is closer to this level of detail than most books are. I am able to enjoy what I am reading even if I only read a few paragraphs and than put the book down and go and do something. I can still feel some elements of the story in my mind so that I can think about what I have just read. This is necessary if you truly want to enjoy any story.

What’s the latest with new 5e content or other assets besides the novel ?

As far as has been rumored, is a Dragonlance 5e sourcebook. Nothing else. The novel trilogy is considered classic so it’s not connected to D&D5e

Was Takhisis an allegory for Lorraine Williams and Paladine an allegory for Gary Gygax? 😉

Why wasn’t this the lord of the rings level trilogy of movie(s) instead of the garbage cartoon fail, which did no justice to the series, should have been trilogy with Raistlin (my personal favorite) challenging the pantheon of gods and queen of darkness in the abyss

The original Mina series was cool. The rest of the books sucked.

    Hello again Adam,
I found you a year or two ago. And unlike you, I didn't get rid of my Dragon Lance books 📚.🥸.
I want to thank you, PARTIALLY......
I HAVEN'T read the "second" series about Mina.
I HAVE them. Recently acquired. So yes, I skipped ahead.
    Thank you,
    K9's.......
