      @James Robert Coyle - yes, the vibro looks intense. Had a 1950s MAC 350 for a while when I was a student in the 1960s. Good bike, loved the adjustable rear suspension, which was useful when carrying a pillion. Vibration from the single was a thing, even then :) Looked a lot like this one, iirc: ua-cam.com/video/ylz596cGSh4/v-deo.html

    Memories. My grandfather had a 350cc Velocette one-lunger, and some of my early memories are of riding on the back of it. I was less than 6 years old. Always loved Velo's, but never owned one, only single cylinder BSA's. (Nearly the same sound, with the right exhaust fitted.) I hope that you _can_ achieve the magic 200 mph. That would be even more special. All the best next time!

      For sure. Still hard to believe a one cyl bike could go 100 much less 193+mph. Very impressed by this bike. I had 6 bikes in my time with 2-3 & 4 cyl and my top speed was 145 mph on my best bike. And i got beat by a one piston job. But i,am very glad for the owner of that great bike. WOW,What a machine !

      @hughmoore810 4 роки тому

      @@auggie803
      Yes but you need to look at the money & special parts put into the machine (info is on line). 1st up it's not the original 500 cc but a 650 cc capacity engine. It's SUPERCHARGED. It runs methanol fuel with a bit of nitro. The speed run was impressive but in 2016 you only had to do it in 1 direction. The speed is only possible due to the streamlining. Look at his speeds on part streamlined versions in earlier years. Later on they've now made it 2 direction runs using Bonneville rules as a guide. The gearbox was modified (strengthened) & I think more was/has been done with that ?
      Then there's the pit crew numbers & all the resources they have on & off the salt flats. I'm a fan of the "battler" competitor with minimal money & pit crew etc.
      Burt Munro did over 200 mph on 1 run on his Indian in 1967. It was near to 1,000 cc but naturally aspirated & had around 100 hp. This Velocette would need to be putting out that amount of power to do the speeds that he does. Burt Munro only had a fraction of the resources that these Velocette guys have & technology has improved so much in 49 years & 53 years (2020). I'm just saying you have to look in to things in an apple vs apple way not an apple & an orange way.
      Burt had a Velocette, a 1936 model. Much modified but still was 500 cc & had part streamlining In 1964 in New Zealand on a closed for competition sealed public road he set a a record of 138 mph (very impressive).. So to go 200 mph (up 62 mph) you'd need to near triple the horse power. Not possible on a 500 cc naturally aspirated single.

    • @hughmoore810
      @hughmoore810 4 роки тому +2

      Uncle Quack
      They do it with the sprocket sizes. Shorter gearing for short tracks & longer gearing for long tracks/runs including salt flat speeds. A good example is on speedway bikes, so have a look at those then 1/2 the rear sprocket size & it would be so slow around the speedway (never reach maximum engine revs) but would have a very high top speed on a long open straight run.

    Give it another gear and change the fuel mixture add a couple of turbos and larger intake and fuel lines with a little more fuel pressure and put a variable timing on it with some Ntiros and a little methane with a extra shot of alcohol with cooler fuel and she will hit 200 easy.

  • @KathrynLiz1
    @KathrynLiz1 4 роки тому

    Remarkable achievement.... you need a LOT of horsepower to hit those speeds.... Is it still a 500? I guess you'll need close to 200hp to get over 200mph.... that'll take a lot of boost because of the rev limits of the engine.
    Good luck... I really think you guys can do it... :-)

    Amazing you guys almost 200 would you like to get the last bit ? ? If you could run 5 to 10% cooler = extra bhp, if it spun up faster through each gear smoother with less load less friction on all moving parts gaining several extra horsepower I think you would do it and also less likely to blow up due to a cooler motor you want to know how ? I'll tell you , get yourself some activ8 oil additive in the engine, it's used by all motorsport to top fuel drag car's I've got it in my bikes and car and have dyno miles and print outs to prove it also my word it amazing stuff I've met the owner in Scotland UK it took him 15 years to develop my car engine at 87k miles my mechanic said there was virtually no wear ha try it you will hit dead on 200 I'm positive!
