For example, I don't think you should be able to buy weapons and tools on a leaderboardless survival world, as competition is inherent in a finite (though large) world with limited resources. But that definition allows it. I guess you would consider that to be semi-P2W, but I don't think it's acceptable, especially when (as discussed in the video) coupled with loot box type gambling mechanics. I doubt Mojang will ever be that strict with P2W, but I can dream.
They'll keep it vague because Mojang can avoid any liability as to when they decide to enforce it and when they don't. They have zero incentive to make it more clear.

I do think an server list run by Mojang can do wonders, but recently community trust in Mojang has fallen so I think there are some valid concerns here
as someone who's owned a small server for 5 years, i can completely vouch for the frustration that voting websites cause. im hoping that this new one fixes a lot of those issues
I've been enjoying your server for a bit, MisterEpic. I love Civ Factions despite the low player count, it's pretty great. However, there is an issue I'd like to discuss in particular, that being limiting Simple Voice Chat to a donation tier. I'd like to argue that while at first it's inclusion may not seem like aq big deal, it's actually a HUGE deal. Imagine snooping on the conversation of an opposing civilization nearby, or providing quicker information to fellow civ members of an attack, or just generally quicker team coordination. For these reasons, I deem this a competitive advantage to Factions, and while I do not expect it to be made free, I at least would like your consideration or thinking, since not every Minecraft player has Discord, and most Java players use mods to make Java reasonably playable to begin with.
There is another big problem with some of these servers and I thank FITMC for pointing this out in his videos: Hackers can and have turned these sites into attack sites designed to log your personal and financial information. Honestly, when playing Minecraft, make your own world, invite some friends but avoid these "recommended" sites.
really baffeling how they ban anything that looks like casinos but explicitly allow the act of gambling and encouraging people to gamble. This is the most stupid stance against "gambling" I've ever seen, it's literally just optics but the actual thing that's the issue is totally fine by them.
one kind of badge I wish they had was a "unique features" one to promote servers with unique takes on things rather then the generic ones. For things like ACTUAL RPG servers, those with quests or prison servers with unique features (like the old FruitMC or Pluteria one).
if i had plans on making my server public, my server would benefit SO MUCH from this! my server has minigames, and each minigame is unique to my server and is an original concept by me and/or my friends.
@@GamerTowerDX by unique, I mean ones that aren't on most servers-doesn't matter if only a couple have it, it's still different from the generic bedwars/skyblock/prison etc ones.
Nah bro, if your server doesn't get in because of the "casino thing" then that would be sus as heck. I've played on Lover Fella's server in the past and that exact casino setup is built in so many shop bases. And his server is on their website. Also the vague eula from Mojang, I don't ever see them clearing it up because just like UA-cam and many other companies, they like being able to take things down if they don't like it personally. And having a vague eula allows them to do that.
Gambling needs to be extended to lootbox mechanics, simple as. I've given up hope that Mojang will be less lax about online multiplayer interactions (which are traditionally intentionally not rated by EU regulatory bodies), so if they're gonna tighten up any restrictions I hope it's with gambling.
You know, all it would take is a button in minecraft that redirects you to the official minecraft server list... That would solve the google search issue...
Manacube has a lot of interesting past re: the owners, buying out a server ive staffed for and running it into the ground due to lack of advertising, little to no contact with the servers owner and a complete disconnect from the manacube staff team overall, some interesting stuff
The difference between loot boxes and gambling is that Loot Boxes = you get something albeit sometimes a lesser value than what you purchased it BUT you still get something while gambling on the other hand is basically just a middle finger to you saying you get nothing if you lose. that is pretty much the loophole they're using
They should simply add a category within the website called "no gameplay-altering microtransactions" or something of the sort. This way there can still be P2W servers on the list, however players can easily find servers with a completely equal environment.
At the end of the day its MILES ahead of what we had before which I think is a win. Microsoft, a company that's been very hands of with mojang finally taking action is good to see
I wouldn't say Microsoft have been hands off with Mojang. I can see how they've pulled strings more and more as the years go by. But if they drop the "omg, think about the kids!!1!" attitude when accepting servers (In terms of the no swearing, etc requirements) then I think this server list might be the rare good change they've made.
I was scrolling through a server list back in 2016. I joined a small faction server I found, and met the owners of the server. We became friends. Now it’s 2023 and we have remained good friends since, even with those days on Minecraft being long gone. If it wasn’t for server list I’d never have those memories of Minecraft which I do now.
Thanks for sharing your comments, TME! I'm glad we'll get a chance to prove ourselves as we keep building this site, and work with the community to build something genuinely useful and fair
I recently joined a server that has a lot of stuff like magic spells, bending, werewolves and vampires. But they also have crates. The crates are in a seperate lobby and require you to warp there. I just don't really mention them or visit them on stream, so my viewers aren't encouraged to use the crates. If they want crates, they have to look for it on their own. I myself also don't use the crates, as i just don't like them that much.
Now that they have an official sever list they could make the whole chat reports thing mandatory for severs on the list and opt-in for servers off the list.
So you cannot gamble in-game currency in an in-game casino, but you CAN gamble real money on crates that only pay out in-game. The latter is clearly more harmful than the former, but we live in a bass-ackwards world where only the former is banned. And speaking of bass-ackwards, the beacon of safety badge actually indicates that a server is unsafe, because chat reporting comes with the risk of getting globally banned. You are far safer on a server without chat reporting. But hey, at least these badges are displayed, because you then know which servers to avoid.
I just want to say if you look at the Xbox legacy console versions of Minecraft, the game is rated everyone 10+. Now, the game is tailored to those under 10. Funny
I know Microsoft didn't like crates because of gambling and wanted Mineplex (bedrock) to phase them out. In general the guidelines are vague and what is considered problematic has changed over time and the amount Mojang has focused on enforcement has also not been consistent either.
The issue of gambling is a general problem in the gaming industry. Loot boxes and crates are not considered gambling by law. This is also the reason why companies such as Supercell or Hoyoverse make extensive use of these mechanisms. Nevertheless, their games such as Clash Royal or Genshin Impact have an age rating of 12 years. By the way, I find it very interesting that the Minecraft community is losing its mind over things like the marketplace, while other companies like Supercell and many others use manipulation tactics to squeeze out money from their players.
So a slot machine where pictures are spinning around, creating artificial excitement for landing that Jackpot is not allowed but it is allowed when you have pictures spinning around creating artificial excitement for landing that Jackpot. Got it.
amazing video as always tho i have a small issue with the editing in that you make the background music way to loud and make it hard to hear you sometimes this is really the only problem in all your videos so personally i would lower the music volume if i were you
Lootboxes are a bit of a pain to regulate tbh. They'd need to trace conversion of real world money into in-game resources, and check if any chain of resource conversion leads to lootboxes. On the other hand, if they temp ban servers that try to use these loopholes for a few months, it might be doable
I think the idea of having a server list in the launcher or in game is huge. Server list websites are kinda pay to win in their own regard, so to be able to prioritize fair server listings sounds like a great way to deal with them. And also on that note, since microsoft's server list is supposedly unbiased, that would mean people could intentionally vote for servers that do not have gambling mechanics, while not voting for ones that do. We would have to have a large portion of mc players doing this to make a difference, but the fact that someone cant pay to push a high voted server down is a good start.
an in-game server list that doesnt discriminate and just gives a random list of servers, so that we can find and remove truly despicable servers, while promoting even things that while you may not like, are still good for a GAMING community, rather than specifically just for families
Not sure if the social stigma surrounding the chat report feature has changed a lot more than it dying off when it was a hotter topic, but I am not sure if I can still take servers that use them well when there has been the said to be verified part of not messing with the encryption of messages and all that. Next to the part of having your account unable from playing multiplayer, hard to say if their moderation is still much to go by from not seeing it a lot in action as having your own team only is still preferred by many of them on and off the website. Also those macrotransaction ranks are way overkill for perks instead of just having fair no-reward donations instead. The gamble-able loot crates are one thing that should be absolutely washed out, but not even ranks should cost more than AAA games- especially (*with*) consoles, in one purchase for what they only offer for who knows how long the server lasts, even for cash whales when they are brought up.
Yeah, it was my complaining about player casinos that got me banned from MineSuperior. It doesn’t matter if the “games of chance” ie: slot machines, are for real money or not. The Statute’s of the US (where most servers are hosted) prohibit offering games of chance to minors.
I think it’s good for them to have the ones for spending money as at least if mojang gets a cut it’s good as it would be like the marketplace both being good as it funds the game
what about Games of Chance vs Games of Skill? There is a lot of internet legislation around that. Also I'm happy to see you reaching out and not simply making videos about what you feels isn't working.
They should just integrate the official server list in the launcher & game itself so when u click on multiplayer you can get a server list from the website
11:15 I don't see any reason why they can't just put a warning pop-up when someone tries to view your server on the site. That would solve every problem they have with younger players viewing such harmless swear words.
@@cheeseburgermonkey7104 Its probably more for parents. That way some parent can't throw a fit about how "there's nothing saying there would be swearing" instead of acknowledging letting your kid on the internet unsupervised is a bad idea
How is it "gambling" if the only thing you get is video game items? By that logic, pokemon cards are gambling. "Mystery flavor" soda drinks are gambling. A variety pack of jelly beans is gambling.
Funny. I just seen SaCl's video and he's like "i talked to folks" and i seen your pfp which is just, by now, unmistakable as yours, so i figured you'd be making a video about it too 😂
This is just stupid. They very well are objectively gambling 🤦♀️ just because it's a vague roulette wheel vs a recreated "actual" roulette wheel. C'mon, guys...
Yk, If you want to track down as many people as possible who making PTW servers in order to ban them in such a way that they couldn’t come back with alts this would be one of the best methods. Just get those people to officially register for these server lists then wait a while before mass banning them, now with enough info about the real life person to be able to track down any alts they might use. Though I doubt that’s Microsoft’s plan.
I love the server list itself now that it actually displays servers that are somewhat honest and worth playing. But, my only gripe with all servers currently is that some plugins are almost always tied in with a mode with a ton of other plugins that kinda conflict with others. For example, McMMO. You know how fucking hard it is to find a server that ACTUALLY uses it right? Probably the closest server to somewhat use it fairly is Complex Gaming (Yes, that server). Almost 90% of other servers that use McMMO either completely nerf the mob spawns, or reward you with limited skills. So, I think that’s another issue for people looking for servers, and that’s just finding the one that utilizes your favorite plugin/gamemode well. Since I played Complex Gaming for under a week now, and found that McMMO is more utilized than other servers (Especially Lovercraft, god forbid that server), I was practically thinking,”Yeah, this is good enough.”
I used to play on a prison server on Manacube... It was heavily P2W cause they would reset the whole server every(x) amount of days, I think it was like 30-60 days(give or take). And if you were a F2P player, you would lose all of your items, achievements, upgrades on your pickaxe, etc And in order to grind for the upgrades on your pickaxe you would need to grind and grind, and grind for hours just to get to like 5% of what a P2W person has. Then there's the paid currency was still obtainable by you voting for the server(but you would only get 0.05 per vote) and trading 800K in-game currency, called: Mana. For 1 paid currency, which I forgotten the name for it.
Such a stupid loophole by saying "we only ment casino type games" when we mentioned gambling. If it requires real money to buy a lootbox it's gambling, plain and simple. I've never enjoyed playing on servers like that anyway, so I'm not affected. I just play the actual game with my friends, not mini games. They've always been pretty boring to me.
Interesting that you mention Origin Realms because in my opinion the disgusting tactics they use with FOMO and loot boxes were the big problems not the arcade games.
I would like to see an option on the server list that filters servers that are aimed more for adults. While these servers will still follow community guidelines, they can be more lenient on "offensive material", like the art that was show, or mild in game gambling. This way life long Minecraft fans can play without having to be surrounded my children.
Is it still gambling if you recreate roulette slots or horse racing with only vanilla redstone and host a server with youtuber and streamer on it like how to Minecraft and craft attack
Microsoft really needs to make the guidelines stricter and be more explicit otherwise it will be impossible to maintain the minrcraft multiplayer server community
Make sure to subscribe and join my minecraft server (before its banned lol)

Loot boxes DO exist in real life, capsule machines are an example of it. Just you don't see them in casinos, so folks think it's perfectly innocent.
one kind of badge I wish they had was a "unique features" one to promote servers with unique takes on things rather then the generic ones.
@@donutstudios6353If you ever make it public, could you sent the IP here (Don’t forget to reply to everyone that replies here if they want it)?
That is an incredibly subjective thing tho, and one that gets outdated the moment they approve a server with similar features.
Long story short - Minecraft used to be a game for everyone, and now mojang is selling out and pandering to children
Awesome video. Minecraft really is the circumference to a cube.
you havent even fully watched the vid why are you saying its awesome 😭
@@fo-od To get as many likes as possible? I guess.
It was an awesome video.
map art bad, p2w predatory lootboxes good... totally not morally corrupt
You know, all it would take is a button in minecraft that redirects you to the official minecraft server list...
That would solve the google search issue...
Since 2018 Belgium recognizes lootboxes as gambling, just leaving that here.
I swear to god if I see one more comment saying ‘I love it when so and so puts his content juices into me’
Manacube has a lot of interesting past re: the owners, buying out a server ive staffed for and running it into the ground due to lack of advertising, little to no contact with the servers owner and a complete disconnect from the manacube staff team overall, some interesting stuff
The difference between loot boxes and gambling is that Loot Boxes = you get something albeit sometimes a lesser value than what you purchased it BUT you still get something while gambling on the other hand is basically just a middle finger to you saying you get nothing if you lose. that is pretty much the loophole they're using
It would be handy to have a link to the server list in the launcher
And ofc they went the "if you cant defeat it, join it" way with gambling
Bro I cant even explain this. Your such a fucking good youtuber man. PLEASE keep on uploading for ever.
We’re going to get a new flavor of what we already had. It’ll just be slightly more transparent with very similar core issues.
One more step towards improving the whole Minecraft servers scenario, one video at a time.
Honestly if this webiste turns out good its gonna be so good for the community
Loot boxes/crates are essentially just slot machines.
It's a great idea for them to host their own website for servers which is why I'm concerned and worried
Thanks for sharing your comments, TME! I'm glad we'll get a chance to prove ourselves as we keep building this site, and work with the community to build something genuinely useful and fair
I look forward to it :)
All you proved is your incompetence
I recently joined a server that has a lot of stuff like magic spells, bending, werewolves and vampires. But they also have crates.
The crates are in a seperate lobby and require you to warp there. I just don't really mention them or visit them on stream, so my viewers aren't encouraged to use the crates. If they want crates, they have to look for it on their own. I myself also don't use the crates, as i just don't like them that much.
Now that they have an official sever list they could make the whole chat reports thing mandatory for severs on the list and opt-in for servers off the list.
I always look forward to seeing your videos every Saturday
Funny
True!
Got it.
amazing video as always tho i have a small issue with the editing in that you make the background music way to loud and make it hard to hear you sometimes this is really the only problem in all your videos so personally i would lower the music volume if i were you
If your server gets denied then that will be the nail in the coffin for me in trusting Mojang’s server list
solution: open up a crate gambling casino irl. (also a non-p2w badge would be cool)
You know it's a good video when it pops up on your recommendation page and says posted one minute ago lol.
An irl casino should add lootboxes, so those technically simulate irl gambling and get banned
The best way to make the Minecraft official voting site is if Microsoft and Mojang integrated the site into the Minecraft launcher.
7:29 That statement is what the forsaken Purple Prison needs to be converted too
Hi, I'm from planet Minecraft and I am here to review your server.
Lootboxes are a bit of a pain to regulate tbh. They'd need to trace conversion of real world money into in-game resources, and check if any chain of resource conversion leads to lootboxes. On the other hand, if they temp ban servers that try to use these loopholes for a few months, it might be doable
You still did not explain how helping pay to win for kids is a good thing
What if we create a IRL casino with loot crates so Mojang have to remove them from IG server
I think you can cooperate with other YT creators to make your own list of good non-p2w servers that are known to you that you can play with fun
Yeah, it was my complaining about player casinos that got me banned from MineSuperior. It doesn’t matter if the “games of chance” ie: slot machines, are for real money or not. The Statute’s of the US (where most servers are hosted) prohibit offering games of chance to minors.
I would love to see the official server list be added into the game itself. Fingers crossed that does happen.
I think it’s good for them to have the ones for spending money as at least if mojang gets a cut it’s good as it would be like the marketplace both being good as it funds the game
3:40
Isnt that the systemzee server?
I wonder if loot boxes will be considered prohibited if laws change to more broadly consider loot boxes to be gambling.
what about Games of Chance vs Games of Skill? There is a lot of internet legislation around that.
Also I'm happy to see you reaching out and not simply making videos about what you feels isn't working.
They should just integrate the official server list in the launcher & game itself so when u click on multiplayer you can get a server list from the website
11:15 I don't see any reason why they can't just put a warning pop-up when someone tries to view your server on the site. That would solve every problem they have with younger players viewing such harmless swear words.
You think anybody's gonna care about a warning popup?
@@cheeseburgermonkey7104 Its probably more for parents. That way some parent can't throw a fit about how "there's nothing saying there would be swearing" instead of acknowledging letting your kid on the internet unsupervised is a bad idea
@@echo_soldierTrue
seeing massivecraft pop up in the video gave me such a wave of nostalgia
the main reason why the servers are high on voting is because if you vote you get something special in game
C'mon, guys...
time to write a comment about the video that came out less than two minutes ago and haven't watched more than 40 seconds of
real
So true
Yk, If you want to track down as many people as possible who making PTW servers in order to ban them in such a way that they couldn’t come back with alts this would be one of the best methods. Just get those people to officially register for these server lists then wait a while before mass banning them, now with enough info about the real life person to be able to track down any alts they might use. Though I doubt that’s Microsoft’s plan.
9:23 This is Holow Knight greenpath music!!!
1. Make/buy a casino in real life
2. Add lootboxes
3. Now they are forced to remove gambling from Minecraft since lootboxes now exist in real casinos
Lootboxes are clearly gambling and it feels disingenuous of Microsoft to allow this😠
I used to play on a prison server on Manacube... It was heavily P2W cause they would reset the whole server every(x) amount of days, I think it was like 30-60 days(give or take).
And if you were a F2P player, you would lose all of your items, achievements, upgrades on your pickaxe, etc
And in order to grind for the upgrades on your pickaxe you would need to grind and grind, and grind for hours just to get to like 5% of what a P2W person has.
Then there's the paid currency was still obtainable by you voting for the server(but you would only get 0.05 per vote) and trading 800K in-game currency, called: Mana. For 1 paid currency, which I forgotten the name for it.
How do you find the legit, non-botted playecounts of these servers?
I don't think I would mind if they implemented a server browser in all versions of minecraft, the top search results on google sounds much worse.
As a new mc watcher, I'm just surprised this ain't out 8 years ago aldy.
Can you post the full interview?
Minecraft has fallen, millions must play single player, billions even.
1.19.84 was a failure, billions must play 1.12.2 modded singleplayer.
3:30 so if i add loot boxes and crate like things to a casino will mojang ban them in game?
You seem to have quite some influence, pls try to tell them, to allow multiple filter searches at once.
Is it still gambling if you recreate roulette slots or horse racing with only vanilla redstone and host a server with youtuber and streamer on it like how to Minecraft and craft attack
Csgo had to restrict lootboxes in some countries right? Why not Minecraft?
Microsoft really needs to make the guidelines stricter and be more explicit otherwise it will be impossible to maintain the minrcraft multiplayer server community
Solution : sell lootboxes in real life so the servers are forced to remove them
