I cant wait to watch this movie. He's from my hometown. He was one of my middle school teacher best friends. She wouldn't stop talking about him being an astronaut. You can tell she was very proud of him. She would even call him in class for us sometimes too. I remembered back when he was first going out to space she was so proud of him. She even record it on tv for us and show it the next day.

My Parents are both immigrants. Mom came from the Dominican Republic my father escaped the Civil War in El Salvador in the 80s. I graduated a few years ago with a Masters in Computer Science top 10 in my class. Seeing another Latino Engineer make it shows the importance of dreams and determination. The symbolism of him looking down at his dirty hands as a child and then fast forward to clean hands once he is educated is crazy deep. It's not how you start its how you finish. This might be the greatest example of the American dream I have ever seen in a movie. Even if you're born in American. It takes endless hard work to achieve your dreams. The story is. No matter who you are. If you work hard, never give up. There is nothing you can't achieve in this amazing country. If you didn't accomplish your dreams. You have no one but yourself to blame!

I stumbled upon this movie and I cried tears of joy more than a few times. Such an incredibly well told story of resilience and hope and family and never giving up on your dream. In fact, knowing that it's hard and working that much harder. In the film, he tells his father that trying to do this thing is really heavy and his dad, lovingly, told him 'well, get stronger...' That's what those of us who come from very little have to do. We don't have the luxury of just giving up when it gets hard. We have to push a little farther and dig a little deeper. I have a very short list of favorite movies like The Pursuit of Happyness, Rocky, Good Will Hunting and Akeelah & The Bee. Stories of ordinary folks who believed in themselves enough to do extraordinary things. A Million Miles Away goes right to the top of that list, proudly. EVERY kid needs to see this movie....and some adults as well.

The best thing about this trailer is that a lot of us can relate to the experience. I'm the first person in my bloodline (for at least the past 100 years) to have come to the UK from Afghanistan and get a degree in Computer Science (+ a top 5 student in the whole Engineering department) at one of the most prestigious university in the UK and be fortunate enough to work in a large tech company. Less than 5% of my bloodline ever managed to learn to read and write at primary school level at best - and not a single one has ever gotten a degree in any field.
Honestly, if i can break boundaries while being from a war-torn, uneducated and one of the poorest nation on the planet you definitely can if you develop that hard work mentality that those from unfortunate countries are raised with. Just keep trying and you'll achieve what you seek.

For many, just to see one of us . . who grew up like us . . is like us . . just to see them make it is satisfying. It gives everyone who has worked hard and sacrificed the hope that eventually someone will achieve their dreams. The man who plants the seed that will grow into the tree he will never taste the fruit from is the spirit by which immigrant workers live. It's the spirit by which a cook or housekeeper who can work at a 5-Star hotel/restaurant fully knowing they could never afford to experience the luxury they support is the cruelest joke to play. That's why it's important to share stories of those who did make it. Thank you to the Hernandez Family for supporting the dream of Jose.

I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid after seeing the movie Armageddon 😂. Such ab inspiring movie and worth the watch I am so proud of this man so proud I’m going to buy a bottle of his wine. Him and his family came so far and worked so hard. I was dishes for a living and it’s not even the same and was just talking to a co worker that said he used to work those farms with his family. Overall such ab inspiring movie if you haven’t seen it I suggest you do. 🖤🖤🖤

I hope more Chicanos get inspiration from him. We, as a community, need to catch up with Asians. Parents have such an important role in this. They need to encourage their children to go to college and be successful. Nothing wrong with being a blue-collar worker, but we need to be represented in every field of society, and we are under-represented in science in this country. And that's where the money and power is.

A century ago, Eastern Europeans were characterized as "dumb Hunkies" when they migrated to the United States. They weren't dumb, they just didn't speak English. But the stigma remained, and I had to fight against it all of my life and career. I routinely was denied training yet expected to do the work. That was the tip of the iceberg.

Michael Peña kills it in this. I absolutely love his whimsical characters but his acting chops show up in serious roles like Extinction and Collateral Beauty show off his real skills. I'm inclined to rank him among the greats like Lithgow and Bryan Cranston where the range is simply so wide that most actors cannot reach.

Our father had to leave the 5th grade to work back at the farm. The family were sharecroppers. Both of his sons graduated with a Master's Degree. One became a California legislator. As for myself, I was an Educational Ambassador to the Baltic countries including Ukraine and Russia. Education was the key. I remember our mom mending dad's socks and shirts. They saved money to purchase an Encyclopedia set for us. I remember eating TV dinners as they used the money to put both of us for a catholic education. They are my heroes. My goal was to earn a doctorate degree. I settled instead on two Master's Degrees.
