Hi Jason, I remember building this ship in 1968. I thought that I had built it in the normal Airfix way by joining two halves of the hull together first. I have just checked on Scalemates and downloaded the instructions. These are the original type with the explanation about what parts are being fitted together. The first step is to join the Port and Starboard halves of the hull. Also the original Airfix paint numbers are given. Those old paint bottles were like ball point pens, you never used all of the contents. The door frame to my bedroom was wrecked with semi circular dents. The ships name and port of registration decal, for the stern, was in black and could not be seen on a dark grey hull so on my QE2 it was on a section of aft facing superstructure. An article in a 1969 Airfix magazine showed how to motorise the kit and that involved weighting the model and creating a new water line. Moving on 54 years, I am enjoying your current Anson build.
Wow dan you have a lot of memories of this kit, I rember the Airfix bottles my Dad used them to paint som knights for me when I was little, infact I think I painted my first ever model, the 1975 1/72 Spitfire in pale blue from one of them.
My dad took me to see it being launched. We all had picnic on the hill opposite looking out over the Clyde and it is one of my earliest memories. Never forget it.

@@ModelkitStuff Yes I do have one (at one time I had 3 but lost 2 in 2018, this one survived because it was in storage away from my house) It is in a box with all my favorites Ocean Liners ships. My precious (this is me imitating Gollum) LOL I also had 2 of the 1/350 QE II ( Otaki and Almark ) Wish you and your family a Happy and Healthy Holidays Season !

The two most iconic liners from my younger days are QE2 and SS Canberra. Wouldn't it be great if Airfix retooled these.
Entex and later Gunzi Sangyo released a kit of the QE II in 1/400 scale.
I have the Gunze and the Airfix! Great kits!
