you can also cancel dagger into fist just as quickly as you can into quickboost. and since the dagger has such high cooling, you can actually just go back into the dagger combo after staggering and punching once or twice. basho arms, laser dagger, no right arm, two huxleys on a heavy tetrapod using mostly melee attacks with kikaku booster for mobility is extremely silly
1:50 Today at work something occured to me: Because missile weapons don't benefit from Recoil Control or from Firearm Specialisation and can lock onto targets outside of your crosshair, the Basho arms are theoretically as good as any other for a pure missile build, but could be uniquely suited to a melee/missile hybrid build if such a thing is at all viable. I suspect the only useful handheld launcher for this would be the HML-G2/P19MLT-04 since the other two options have a minimum range of sorts. It may also be possible to use Basho arms with manually aimed weapons, IIRC using ECM grenades on yourself forces the enemy to get closer to get a lock and that could be exploited to bait them into your melee range, but it could also completely ruin your useful melee techs that rely on the tracking of melee attacks. I'm not far enough into the game to test these things myself yet.
This commentary is very useful, i would like to try fast build but playing on console i'm having problems to keep the enemy in my sight. Explaining why you move in a certain way and what are you doing is helping me understand how to play.
@@CodenameMood Rude comments aside, since you're billing yourself as the "Melee Messiah" it'd be interesting to see how you deal with long-distance/keepaway builds. I find that any strategy reliant on the opposition actively making mistakes or voluntarily giving up advantages is a questionable strategy. Sure you can Overboost to a skybox boat - once. For whatever reason (I can think of a few possible), after you assault armor here the stagger bar turns red, but there is no "ACS LOAD LIMIT" above the bar to indicate the stagger stun. Hey mood love the vid, made this build part of my garage 😊 Q: do you ever use the mele baton for any of your concepts or is the baton not worth utilizing?
YES!!! I actually use a similar build with the Laser Dagger and Laser Slicer but with the Wuerger Laser Shotgun instead of a Duckett since the mini stun on the Laser Dagger charge attack makes it hard to dodge the follow up charge attack of the Laser Shotgun and I have time to charge the Laser Shotgun as I'm committing to a Laser Dagger charge. I was inspired by your Silver Lining build's Pulse Blade and Zimmerman opener, and tried to put my own spin on it with laser weapons because blue is my favorite color. To punish an ACS Overload from my Laser Dagger charge attack into Laser Shotgun charge attack, I'd normally do Laser Dagger 2 hit > quick boost > switch weapons > Laser Slicer 2 hit > Assault Armor (the stagger runs out right before the end of the Laser Slicer combo leaving you with frame disadvantage if they survive and you don't have Assault Armor to cancel the animation partway through the second hit). I find starting my finisher with Laser Dagger 2 hit mechanically easier than starting with Laser Slicer because with high enough Melee Attack Thrust via Kikaku or Gridwalker boosters I don't even need to quick boost cancel the Laser Shotgun charge attack to hit confirm a stagger unless the enemy's momentum leaves them outside my range (so I can just mash after the Laser Shotgun charge attack). The Laser Dagger 2 hit also works well at forcing the enemy's Pulse Armor and allowing you to counter with Assault Armor without prematurely overheating your Laser Slicer. However, in the case that you will run out of EN closing the gap with melee on an ACS Overloaded target and be left unable to perform the quick boost in the middle of the combo, you can quick boost and switch weapons before the Laser Shotgun charge attack then go straight into the Laser Slicer 2 hit which should again connect even without the need to quick boost cancel the Laser Shotgun charge attack. Alternatively, if you end up staggering with the Laser Dagger charge attack or Assault Armor, you can do quick boost > Laser Slicer 2 hit > assault boost > boost kick > Laser Shotgun charge attack. Boost kick can be skipped if you're out of EN. I'm not sure if it's inescapable and it might be unreliable on high latency, but I've never had someone get out of it in PvP and it seems to be confirmed in PvE vs AC type enemies in the test run, missions, and arena. Additional notes: I use the Laser Drone for my right back unit to maintain the laser theme but there are probably more optimal ways to sustain or build ACS strain. I named my build Cutscene because it locks the opponent in an 8 second unskippable while their AC gets blended.
I know the ducat has solid stagger, but have you condered the laser pistol or wurger laser shotgun? I use a wurger with my laser dagger build, which functions like a secondary heavy melee which can be charged while in other animations. Also frees up my L Back for more missiles instead of needing a follow up weapon swap.
@CodenameMood Indeed. It also has an okay range, hitscan attack, massive impact & damage, and also functions as a high fire rate shotgun. It's a punish that doubles as a skirmish option. The charged strike also has shorter recovery frames than you might expect. Give my worker bee a whirl some time.
Trust me, I've tried Wuerger as a replacement, the charge attack is genuinely too slow for my playstyle. I want practically 0 interruptions, so.@@billybbishop
@CodenameMood Fair enough. I'm pleased though that the CQC is complex enough that there can be different melee archetypes of play in AC6 instead of the old hit and run for gen4. Sounds like I tend to go for counterattack and your style is more rushdown with this kit. Keep on dancing, buddy
You resist the Basho, but how important is firearm spec to the build? Maybe the faster firing handgun with worse accuracy is better in exchange for what, 30% higher melee damage?
Would be really cool to see someone figure out a fun and efficient build around using Pile Bunker for both normal hits and the charged hits... well I'm not gonna do that anyway so someone else could
Yes we see how viable light weight builds are but can you make medium and heavy builds that also showcase melee? I’m sure there is a way to do it properly . Not tank legs but Biped. Hmmm
Ok, no any word about Basho. XD But... Why not to use VP-46D instead of VP-46S? Better melee and ranged spec, lightweight, decent recoil control for one Duckett. All what we need for light build! And overall - great video! Well... like always! :)
i would love to see what youd do with a version of this that replaces the darksouls 2 twinblade with a pile bunker. seems like an easier way to guarantee victory after a stun and does a lot more to further the matchup with quads
@joeytatum6052 no, i know. i kick any tanks outta my lobbies immediately, but ill still fight the quads, just for the challenge. i dont even use my quad setups, as they are just too easy. getting super annoyed with all the fliers and laser boys lately though. i come from 12000 hours of souls pvp, and i want skillful, thrilling combat. passive idiots are the true worst thing in the game. worst thing is that i still beat most of them, but i just want to vomit at the sheer lack of skill of someone who pilots that trash.
@joeytatum6052 lol yeah i agree 1000%. its infuriating. i like light - med weight mechs because their movement options feel better, but all of the flying needs to be nerfed heavily in pvp. a round arena like watchpoint, but with a ceiling, would be welcome, and yeah, there should be a massive weakness to heavy ACs. maybe make them out of commission for 2x the time when finally overloaded, or something like that. we need balance. we also need some more matchmaking tools. let us just restrict certain leg types for our matches, or (even more importantly) make the matchmaking random and blind. i dont wanna face counterpickers and shit like that in every single match. randomly give me opponents based on a similar weight class or something, with quads and tanks being in a category and biped and reverse being in another. maybe make a low stability, low ap hover leg so we can still fire stop weapons while moving, but have the massive weaknesses too. i have so many ideas for a proper ranked system, even just like in dark souls 3 with the colored icons for 1v1 and team battles, with a simple bronze, silver, gold denoting your experience
After being stomped by the meta, and invisible projectiles I think ima take a break from pvp, but not team pvp cause team fights are fun, but if I wanna melee and use quads (I love bipeds but getting stun locked isn’t fun) any recommendations ?
This build is really similar to smth I have, but with Basho arms because me brain want big hurty numbers? And Firmeza legs look so good, in general the firmeza "Set" imo is one of the better looking ACs in the game
do you have any advice for fighting other close range builds like double nail gun or double couqiuetts? really struggle against those using my laser dagger build no offence to your opponent at the end using that build but he wasnt the best, so just wondering if you have any tips
They have a hit and run playstyle. They run in, magdump to get ACS Overload, then get out. Try using a bunch of Quick Boosting to make them waste their shots, then play super aggressively to land your melees, since they are no threat with their weapons reloading.
Thanks for making this, another very interesting build and alot of insight on how to play it. But please stop using the same memes so often, the first time you used the pipe falling effect it was hilarious and unexpected, but it gets old very quickly like this. Looking forward to the next video!
Coming from someone who is still trying to learn about build-crafting in this game, why pick the Alula boosters over the Gills? Is it energy efficiency of the boosters?
What are your thoughts on using a shotgun/pistol/machine gun swapper set up with double melee over a plasma muzzle or Huxley? I’ve been easing into the double melee with double moonlight with a ludlow/Chang-Chen setup and I found the constant impact output really helpful.
Those are alright builds too, though my emphasis has always been melee opener for my builds. You can however try the viento needle pistols with a back melee, racks up impact super fast!
@@CodenameMood Sorry maybe I worded that bad, I meant 2 melees on left side and 2 guns on right. So you still open with melee but instead of having a pistol and missle/drone you run 2 pistols on your right hand so you can keep shooting one while the other reloads on your back and keep their impact from your opening melee hit from depleting. Maybe it’s skill issue on my part but sometimes while playing melee I find myself just shy of getting them into ACS overload but have all my weapons on cooldown and I have found that 2 right hand guns helps me with that problem, but then you don’t have the extra pressure from any missiles/drones/orbits.
Is this viable in PVE? Like, you could go through the whole game with it? Or would it run into some road blocks? I'm stubborn and don't like to change my kit if I don't have to. Like, if it's just a skill issue.
aww you cut out my one round W against you. I was "Raven/Poe" and it was my first day using Slicer aka lots of full animation swings misses and losing track of whether Psword or Lslicer is on my shoulder. I don't remember how I beat you the second round, but you made some mistake (probably whiffed a charged dagger?) and I punished with Slicer, it wasn't an impressive kill so I'm not surprised it got cut whereas both of your W's vs me were obvious outplays with your Dagger. Dagger definitely feels strong against other close range builds and especially other melee builds, the cooldown on dagger is so short that it is always a threat at that range.
I actually had it recorded, I was gonna use it as an example of where I fucked up. But I ended up using the other one (this was a random choice, I remembered so later) but I didn't want to use two clips of just fighting you. Sorry if it seemed a little mean on my end! You were a good foe, keep practicing.
There are so many extremely fun and fast potential builds in this game, too bad 90% of them get dumpstered on by double Zimms, quad kicks and missile keepaway builds. I've pretty much given up on PvP in this game because of having to deal with that on high ping and bad netcode. I've got more than my money's worth of fun with the game until now, at least! Now I'm going to focus on Titanfall 2 for my giant robot pvp action.
excuse me... but HOW?! the range is straing up contradicted by stats and the others have 32 or 30 recoil vs 15 on the Vientos! why you have more control with that weapons over the Vientos?@@CodenameMood
Speed. If you mash Vientos to shoot them, the recoil flares absurdly much, to the point of making you miss more. Lower fire rate on the other guns make them easier to control for more precise shots.@@nicolasvillasecaali7662
i know i'm the dumb one, but with the arms you are making the showcase the spread isn't bad at all, i feel the one problem you might face with it is being at the limit of its shooting range and the enemy is dodging a lot, which with the lower ammo count could mean more reloads per stagger, but that is not what you are describing, are you sure the shoots go that wild?@@CodenameMood
The fact Assault Armor can't be countered, at all, even with the Assault Protection shield kind of makes me wonder what the counterplay to it is for it to be fair? It doesn't seem like once he's staggered you can do anything to stay alive. So it's just a chase to stagger?
@@CodenameMood That doesn't seem very engaging for the opponent or the audience. What's the point of all the parts in the game if it only takes one stagger to nullify all of it? I'm glad I like the story and the pve. The pvp seems pretty bad. Good build tho.
Trying to use PA after being staggered is a misplay on the PA user. One of PA's best features is that it resets your ACS overload bar, so proactively using it when your ACS is high but not broken is the way to go. AA is an opportunity cost that requires positioning to use, so inherently it's mostly light fast, but also low AP/defense builds that can make good use of it. Those builds are also the ones that would make good use of PA. Furthermore, AA loses potency at distance, and only fully counters PA at melee range. If you're facing a Tank for example and they use PA, your AA will take out the PA, but not cause a stagger due to their high Stability. This lets them counter attack and in many cases, easily one shot a light build. There's also Terminal Armor, which would stop melee true combos cold. If you pick TA and you also have a high burst build, it's very possible to counter attack after an enemy AA and get a win. If it's a battle between two lights that both have AA, then yeah, unless the first use of AA kills the enemy, whoever AA's second gets an advantage. But that's part of the risk of choosing AA.
Correct. I got tired of people coping and crying saying "waaah buh za zimmerman!!!" so I decided to stray away from it, so that no one has anything to cope about.
@@Beardedmane901 There are 2 combos to note. The first is the general bread and butter: [(QB) Dagger 1 -> Delayed Dagger 2 -> Switch Melee -> Shotgun -> (QB) Laser Slicer 1+2]. If you ACS Overload with anything that isn't a charged dagger, you can use that combo. Quick Boosts (QB) are optional and can make it more consistent but are more often than not unnecessary. The second combo is: [Chg. Dagger (cause ACS Overload) -> Delayed Shotgun -> (QB) Dagger 1]. This enables you to use Charged Dagger as a combo starter and chains directly back into the first combo, so you can use them together for a very long combo.

Additional notes:
I use the Laser Drone for my right back unit to maintain the laser theme but there are probably more optimal ways to sustain or build ACS strain.
Wuerger pauses movement on charge attack, very painful for melee builds.
@@CodenameMood Have you considered needle pistol instead?
You resist the Basho, but how important is firearm spec to the build? Maybe the faster firing handgun with worse accuracy is better in exchange for what, 30% higher melee damage?
Would be really cool to see someone figure out a fun and efficient build around using Pile Bunker for both normal hits and the charged hits... well I'm not gonna do that anyway so someone else could
Intresting, will try
Yes we see how viable light weight builds are but can you make medium and heavy builds that also showcase melee? I’m sure there is a way to do it properly . Not tank legs but Biped.
Hmmm
Nice one ill be using this for sure
beautiful
I've found myself having more success using the Harris (for it's charged attack) than the Duckett.
Oh I’m definitely thieving this build. Way too stylish to not.
Ok, no any word about Basho. XD
But... Why not to use VP-46D instead of VP-46S? Better melee and ranged spec, lightweight, decent recoil control for one Duckett. All what we need for light build!
And overall - great video! Well... like always! :)
Less enemy tracking, which is important in this scenario!
i would love to see what youd do with a version of this that replaces the darksouls 2 twinblade with a pile bunker. seems like an easier way to guarantee victory after a stun and does a lot more to further the matchup with quads

We LOVE casting spells.
After the latest patch the vps have better melee spec too about equal with the firmezas i think. Ive been running them a lot
After being stomped by the meta, and invisible projectiles I think ima take a break from pvp, but not team pvp cause team fights are fun, but if I wanna melee and use quads (I love bipeds but getting stun locked isn’t fun) any recommendations ?
Laser Lance. It makes you move really far despite the legs!
i 100% thought the thumbnail said asshat lightning
So based of you.
It’d be nice to see a video on how to play against melee builds, though perhaps that would be against your own self interest
We are already suffering as is, this is self-damaging!
This build is really similar to smth I have, but with Basho arms because me brain want big hurty numbers? And Firmeza legs look so good, in general the firmeza "Set" imo is one of the better looking ACs in the game
Nice video. Keep it up

I use needle gun and huxley
do you have any advice for fighting other close range builds like double nail gun or double couqiuetts? really struggle against those using my laser dagger build
no offence to your opponent at the end using that build but he wasnt the best, so just wondering if you have any tips
They have a hit and run playstyle. They run in, magdump to get ACS Overload, then get out. Try using a bunch of Quick Boosting to make them waste their shots, then play super aggressively to land your melees, since they are no threat with their weapons reloading.
If youre gonna continue with builds could you do a stun baton one?
Stun baton is horribly unreliable on ping, and with the game's netcode. I've tried it, it's just way too painful.
Gills have the absolute worst melee thrust in the game. And, y'know, for a melee build, that's kind of detrimental.
@@CodenameMood Thanks! That's good to know.
You've very much welcome!@@mittensindisguise686
Maybe it’s skill issue on my part but sometimes while playing melee I find myself just shy of getting them into ACS overload but have all my weapons on cooldown and I have found that 2 right hand guns helps me with that problem, but then you don’t have the extra pressure from any missiles/drones/orbits.
you dont meet quads or chairs at all? quads can do whatever they want with light builds
I avoid fighting them all together, it is unwinnable.
Is this viable in PVE? Like, you could go through the whole game with it? Or would it run into some road blocks? I'm stubborn and don't like to change my kit if I don't have to. Like, if it's just a skill issue.
You can go through the whole game with this, easily.
Any reason you chose the Alula over the Gills for the booster?
Gills have the absolute worst melee thrust in the game. Speaks why it's bad for a melee build.
aww you cut out my one round W against you.
Unfortunately the case. We all hope for the balance patch.
I was wondering if you can make a good Lightweight-Speed Reverse Joint build. Any possibility for that?
You'd be looking for a dual pistol type AC. I'm specialized in melee so, I couldn't tell ya!
@@CodenameMood i see i see. thanks for that notice
What do you think about Zimmerman in the right hand instead of ducket?
Doable unless too heavy. I didn't choose it BECAUSE people kept crying that my main build already has a Zimmerman.
@@CodenameMood Ah, if it was money on the table you'd take Zimmerman then right? Or your opinion has changed the last 2 weeks?
Zimmerman all the way. It'd make the combo execution far easier without the need of forbidden combo.@@YoYakuman
@@CodenameMood Cool, thank you. I've been using Lance+Slicer, dagger seems much more usable
Because Lance sucks as an opener, it's too slow and too easy to react too.@@YoYakuman
is there a reason to use the other hand guns over the vientos? Feel its too good number wise over any other one.
More control, more range.
excuse me... but HOW?! the range is straing up contradicted by stats and the others have 32 or 30 recoil vs 15 on the Vientos! why you have more control with that weapons over the Vientos?@@CodenameMood
Unless you are running the best recoil arms, it's pretty noticable.@@nicolasvillasecaali7662
The fact Assault Armor can't be countered, at all, even with the Assault Protection shield kind of makes me wonder what the counterplay to it is for it to be fair? It doesn't seem like once he's staggered you can do anything to stay alive. So it's just a chase to stagger?
That's been the gameplay loop, whoever gets ACS Overload first. AA counters other AA and PA, whoever uses it first loses kind of issue.
I can't believe you don't use a shotgun to unlock the ultra forbidden 10s combos that filet any build with
How exactly do you do it ?
