- Seo leagan d'Amhrán Mhuínse dhá casadh ag oileanach Árainn Padraig Jack in éineacht leis a deirfiúr Aisling 'Jack' Ní Fhlaithearta. Taifeadta in Árainn agus Óran Mór in iarthar Chonnacht.
Aran islander Padraig Jack sings the sean-nós song Amhrán Mhuínse backed by his sister Aisling.
Amhrán Mhuínse is a lament sung from the perspective of an old woman on her deathbed who wants to be laid to rest with her own people in Muinis, near Carna in Connemara on the west coast of Ireland, and not in Leitir Caladh where her husband and his people are laid to rest.
Padraig Jack is a bilingual singer songwriter from largest of the Aran islands who comes from a musical family, his sister Aisling sings backing vocals on this track. While Padraig typically records music in the the Folk, Celtic and Contemporary style, this is his first time recording a 'sean-nós' song, a style which he sang as a child but only rediscovered during the covid lockdown.

Greetings from the peaceful hills of Tennessee, USA.
I've been trying to adapt some sean-nos singing for my own church hymn-singing. I told some of my fellow parishioners I didn't think anybody could do it really, TRULY right unless they'd been hearing/singing it since they were little. Now I think I'm proved right, since I see you sang this as a child. It probably remodels the lungs and larynx and all the vocal organs, as well as the ears. brain, heart and soul. You've got it. If you're a praying man, pray that I could get just a teeeny-tiny portion of your sean-nos spirit.
I hope and pray that you do, but as long as you enjoy it I think that's all that matters 🎵😊
Alainn uilig. Maith thu 👏👏
Go raibh maith agat

Go raibh maith agat
I've never been into sean-nós much (I'm much more into trad artists like Matt Molloy, Séamus Ennis, Micho Russell, etc.), but this is amazing. I'd love to hear more recordings like this from you. I'd actually love to hear you sing a version of Port na bPúcaí. I know that's a West Kerry song and you're a Galway man, but I think you would do an amazing version. I was actually on the Aran Islands this past summer as part of a Gealtacht trip I did with a friend, but we didn't do Inis Mór. We did Inis Meáin and Inis Oírr, but I have been to Inis Mór on a previous trip.
Thank you, I know that song, I might give it a go, the two islands are lovely, there's a lovely theatre in Inis Oírr too
What more can be said "ach go hálainn"
Go raibh maith agat
