Mercedes Benz race cars back in the early days, their superchargers were operated “on demand” when the drivers would press a pedal on the floor to engage the supercharge via a clutch type of arrangement when required for extra passing power or speed especially when racing against Bentleys which their superchargers. Did not have this ability 👍

1:35 Back in the 80s, there was a bit of thing happening in car culture here where people would reinforce their subframes and turn hardtops into convertibles. The early 70s 2-door and 4-door Valiants (VG-ish times) were commonly cut, as were some of the XP-era (60s) Falcons.
It was getting so prevalent owners were getting buyers to sign an undertaking they would not chop the top off before selling it to them. Thankfully they're too valuable to do that to them now.
@@jamesfrench7299 Add those chopped off tops to the amount of valiants used in demolition derbys back in the day and it makes them even harder to find in original condition.

Trafalgar is not far from me, and the museum is fantastic. The FX at 7:52 looks like the one in my shed. What a gorgeous piece of garden art. The purple LC Torana XU1 was called Plumdinger. Not sure if the LJ (like you sighted) had the same color? Maybe someone can tell me. My LC was Dolly Yellow. Best car I ever owned. Stupidly sold it. One of life's great regrets.
If you’re still in Gippsland there is a group of guys that meet every Wednesday morning at Mid Valley shopping centre in Morwell about 25 minutes away from Trafalgar. Usually more than 50 cars there.
I went to an Australia Day show show at the Traf Holden Museum one year. The show was in honour of all Aussie manufactured cars. It was a good turn out. I'm not sure if it's an annual thing but if it is i will take my HG Brougham there again for it. Love your vids.
Did you notice the Ambulance you pointed out had a rear door only on the right hand side? That was a feature of the Ambulance option on the panel cans. They also had an ambo option one the one Tonner
Hey Wasty, I’m wondering if you pay attention to logo / badges? In my (very biased) view Holden has me of the best car logos. It is the “ Wembley Lion “ and is a representation of the fable of when early man discovered the wheel. The story is they saw a lion rolling a round stone and you see both those elements reflected in the logo. The lion with his paw on the stone. Anyway, sorry for rambling but I had some thought that you were interested in graphic design (maybe just panel van stickers 🤣)
We had just a couple days down there and we were shooting constantly. We've only just now run out of Melbourne area footage... until next time! Picnic at Hanging Rock is happening soon....
A very pretty girl used to call me a dag. It was like a roundabout way of saying she accepted me as I am. A girl calling you a dork is not so favourable.
I maybe a Ford fella and drive a Ford. But I used to own different Holden's over the years too. I just love car's in general. From a nice zippy little four banger up to performance V8s and four wheel drives
@WastelandFirebird yeah just nice all round car's. Can be zippy and performance some good off road capability with out needing a full on 4x4. And I'd love to see your car's back in the States. A mate of mine was Holden Chevy through and through. His last car was a 1968 four door Chevy impala running a 454 and turbo 400. Was a bloody nice car
Wasty, I was at an American car show at a local shopping centre car park today. Kept thinking it must have been like a normal 60s or 70s US car park. 😊 Firebirds, Camaros, a single Javelin and more Mustangs than you could shake a stick at. A variety of other stuff as well. My favourite probably a 67 or 68 Impala that I think was assembled here by Holden.
Just send me a message, I'll add you to the list and next time we're around we can! We are planning on going to Picnic at Hanging Rock car show, our schedule might be super tight though....

7:50 In the late 80s/early 90s my exes father had one of those with a genuine 3000km on the clock. It had been on one long trip (Milton NSW to Coffs Harbour and back). Other than that it was driven 300 metres from the Milton Post Office to the supermarket down the hill and back maybe once a month or so. On rare occasions, it was driven to Ulladulla. After every drive, it was rinsed and dried with a chamois, and when not in use it was stored under a cover, inside a closed shed. It was serviced every three to six months whether it needed it or not. He eventually sold it to a young bloke for $1500. My ex was spewing! She wanted that Commodore so bad.
