Born in 1957, XL Sportsters were the smaller performance models for more spirited riders. Originally equipped with 883cc and 1,000cc Ironhead engines, they were updated in 1986 to the Evo that produces the sound that many associate with Harley.
The original Sportster line was discontinued in Europe in 2020 because the engine failed to meet the stricter Euro 5 emissions standards. An all-new model, called the Sportster S and equipped with the Revolution Max engine, was introduced in 2021.

I am an old school HD guy myself. My first bike was a 1975 Sportster when I was a senior in High School and I wish I had kept that bike. I understand how us older guys might see this as the end of an ERA but personally as an HD lover I also understand the need to evolve and attract a new younger following to stay alive. I am probably riding my last Harley already, so I support anything they need to do to keep the brand alive and if your being completely honest us old HD guys aren't buying sporty's anymore.

I inherited my father's sporty 1200c "Sally" in 2017. Before he passed he made me promise I'd never sell her, never let her set, and keep up the maintenance on her. Well I'm big on my word so I basically got tricked into riding a sporty for the rest of my life 😅 no complaints tho she's a badass machine

In 1970 I was 18 years old and started out on a 305 Honda scrambler, then a 650 Triumph, 2-750 Hondas, 350 Honda, 650 Honda custom, 1400 Suzuk Intruder, 2-cb900 custom Hondas, VTX 1800 T Honda, 2008 Harley softail Custom, and 2-Harley Street Glide Specials. Hell no, I am not going backwards. If anything I would go to something lighter like a 2017 breakout if I could find one. I never had a Sportser. Could not afford a Harley back in the day. Not sure how long I will ride, a few more years I hope. Three wheeler, ah, not sure. Thanks for the video man.

My Sportster was my first Harley.
If only I'd known it was the most reliable and easy to work on I may have kept it instead of getting a big twin.
I hope to get another Sportster and add it to the garage before they start to go up in price.

There is a chinese company SSM i believe, just released a prototype show bike.different tank and headlight but otherwise an evo sporty.if they can get their clone to pass euro 5 emissions i don’t understand why harley couldn’t.

As soon as Harley just continue the evolution Sportster the Chinese came out with an evolution Sportster. Now millions of people saying in countries where they can't afford a new American-made Harley will be able to enjoy the pleasure of it Evolutions Sportster so it's not really the end of an era it still continuing on it just won't be American made anymore. And I'll tell you what if they brought that bike here and sold it at a decent price they could probably sell as many as they want after the supply of use Sportster is exhausted. Plus the aftermarket will have a whole new customer base to sell Sportster stuff to. Sportsters were built old school made to be rebuildable forever. The piece of crap hardly makes nowadays it's obsolescence and will never stand the test of time. Sportsters forever forever Sportster

The New Harleys went Honda. I used to have a 77 iron head. That was the best Sportster engine not only for the looks and if tuned up right it was just as reliable as the Evo.

No need to worry there are plenty of used Sportsters to go around. The aftermarket will keep them on the road forever. Unless some Washington Beaurocrat kills them.

My 1999 Evolution Sportster has 400,000 miles on it. Still on the original motor. Been more reliable than I ever thought possible. Harley's big mistake canceling the evolution Sportster is just one of their many mistakes. It's funny just as I canceled the evolution sports or the Chinese come out with one. I hate that they call a new bike and Sportster they should call it something else.

Nothing can replace a Sportster. Not a Royal Enfield especially at 350 single. Sportster was a singular motorcycle. It was Harley's best-selling motorcycle selling 40-plus thousand a year. So they overpriced it to kill sales so they can close down to Kansas City plant.

Your getting my options. And by the way yalls live show is fantastic enjoyed every bit. See Harley created a bike you can turn a sportster into anything you wanted from choppers to hill climbing, off road is great. Evil Knievel set many records jumping cars to busses and his son took it further. You can turn your sportsters into drag bikes or run in lots of different races. Harley shouldn't of given up on the sportster they could of returned it back to the Evo years and sold it as the beginners bikes. I still have my 72 XLCH. my grandson and his high school are restoring it. That bikes been around the world with me. I understand the that bike had a slow down period. Should of kept it for your entry level bike. Yes you've got a catalog you can build your own but there are people that don't want to build your own. The nighter is garbage. All the old schoolers keep what you have. The new generation will end up screwing Harley.

The sporty is the old kind of motorcycle like a Triumph where you look at the bike and it's just right the way it looks and strikes a chord in you. You can say a lot about the new bikes but you sure can't say that any of them are pretty or even good looking it's a shame that some of them are down right hideous especially from companies that made gorgeous bikes back in the seventies like Ducati.

I dont xare for the new sporters and I don't think they'll have the success as the pan America did. I would like to see the numbers comparing the old sporters to the new in sales I truly don't believe that the new age rider is wanting that liquid bike that looks that way I think it has more to do with pushing everyone into this green deal with "less emissions and noise pollution"

The Pan America is very slow selling motorcycle and has as many mechanical defects as a Milwaukee 8 motor. Overheating electrical problems computer issues starting issues. Harley's new bikes just can't stay out of the shop. When Harley finishes going Belly Up nobody's going to provide any type of support for any of the newer Harleys. No parts no service no nothing. The real Sportster will be around forever because of the numbers produced as well as the aftermarket support for the model.

  • @frankmarkovcijr5459

The kids are not going to buy a Harley Sportster or a Nightster because they don't have $15,000 plus to drop on a toy. If they want a job bike they can buy a Honda. The kids can get all the high-tech motorcycles they want on the second hand Market which is an affordable one for them. The Sportster will be around long after the company that gave it birth and the monstrosity meant to replace it has sunk into the mire of their own making.

Dude. The fact that you went and bought a 98 is why they needed to stop making them. Why pay 20-40k for something, when you can buy something nearly IDENTICAL that's 10 to 30 years old, for 5-15k? Us old geezers ain't gonna be buying new Sporties, and we'll all be croaked before ya know it. For the younger crowd, they gotta put that Revolution motor in something that RESEMBLES an old time Sporty, but is much faster, for about $11k. Not 15k.
