Why are we so taken and stick to only verses in poetry written before our age, when we have commendable modern examples as the one in the sample of a single Scene in a play about George Washington show below?
Blank verse always seemed like it was more than half wishful thinking to me. Regional accents can and do change the stressed words and syllables, and a poem that ceases to be a poem when it's read by someone from Long Island or the Mississippi always seemed to have a fatal weakness. Wait a century or two, and a couple of vowel shifts down the road will turn your poem into prose. Does that not bug the living hell out of anyone else?
Thank you so very much I now understand the differences of blank and free verse keep up the good work!
Rhymed lines can touch and enchant us;
One should write one's own lines of verse.
Thank you
what was that book titled that you held up that had the free verse examples in it?
i think that bright green TS Elliot book might have been dyed with arsenic. you can tell by the color.
I heard about that, wasn't it just books printed during the Victorian era made that way? Didn't know they continued in the modern era too 🤔
Thanks 🙏🙏 🇬🇭
Madam I completed m.a in English literature. Could you please suggest top mcq English literature books
Take everything you have been told about free verse. Put it into a bag and throw that bag out the widnow.
Be bold!
How is free verse not prose ?

Not much sence, holding up a book. That can't be seen. And the poem isn't read..
