To me their best song ever, no doubt about that. Psychocandy was a real milestone But a line like "The hardest walk you could ever take Is the walk you take from a to b to c " woven on that underlying sweet sunny buzz is just pure gold silk. thanks Jim
Hardest Walk to me is the tuneful, universally listenable one though. Got a soft spot for In a Hole though "God spits on my soul, theres something dead inside my hole"
I'm glad JMC never became a mainstream band. There's a shitload of bands who should of been huge, like Rose Tattoos, JMC, the Boys, Cocksparrer, the Pogues, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers and so on...but I'm glad they never became a over play mainstream corporate band(s). I mean, it's no fun being a outlaw when everyone else is a outlaw. At least this way, these bands can focus on writing songs that we love listening to and their music are the soundtracks of our lives instead of just being a cash register for a major label. To all the great under rated bands out there who still touring and playing great music, THANKYOU!
Couldn’t have said it better man, The heartbreakers record LAMF should’ve been bigger than never mind the bullocks, your right I have a lot of respect for the jamc they wanted drum machines on automatic they had record companies try to get them away from that but they didn’t care
Beach Boys on acid. Coolest band ever. Brilliant melody. Their haircuts rule as well. When JAMC spikes up the distortion, i experience a rush like a drug and want more of it.
Why they never became the biggest band in the world is beyond me - they had everything. When you see the likes of Phil Collins and Sting become successful with dreary , tuneless rubbish It makes my heart sink.
IMO, Phil's material isn't so bad - I personally really didn't like his solo debut that much, but it is when you go past his Both Sides album (apart from Tarzan) that it is all pretty bad.
I never thought that this day would ever come When your words and your touch just struck me numb Oh, and it's plain to see that it's dead The thing swims in blood and it's cold, stony dead It's so hard not to feel ashamed Of the loving, living games we play each day And I'm stuck in a shack down the back of the sea Oh, and I'm alive and I'm alone inside a sick, sick dream Oh, is it me, is it me that feels so weak? I cannot deceive but I find it hard to speak The hardest walk you could ever take Is the walk you take from A to B to C I walk, oh honey, I talk Don't want you to want me Don't want you to need me Don't want you to need me Don't want you to need me And I walk.
I never thought that this day would ever come When your words and your touch just struck me numb Oh and it's plain to see that it's dead The thing swims in blood and it's cold stony dead It's so hard not to feel ashamed Of the loving living games we play Each day And I'm stuck in a shack Down the back of the sea Oh and I'm alive and I'm alone Inside a sick sick dream Oh is it me Is it me that feels so weak I cannot deceive but I find it hard to speak The hardest walk you could ever take Is the walk you take from A to B to C I walk Oh honey I talk Don't want you to want me Don't want you to need me Don't want you to need me Don't want you to need me And I walk
thank fuck for JAMC in the mid 80's it saved my teenage life from all that 80's nonsense, I had a rock to cling to.as a 15 year old it was like music sent from the gods. and do you know what it as aged a fucking amazingly well , as a 47 year old i still love it.
+Kelsey Jo Music Indeed, one of the greatest songs IN EXISTENCE! A personal fave. This version is different than the Physcho Candy album track... and is on the Some Kind of Wonderful movie soundtrack (which is ... wonderful). It's the fade-out chorus, the build up and then the blast that just kills it. 'Don't want you to... need me, don't need you to... want me' is one of the greatest lyric plays ever (IMO). I play it over and over. AND I WALK.
had MUNKI since it came out, just recovered all the other albums, made a nice list for my iPod of my 43 fave JESUS & MARY CHAIN songs, and listen to it since a few months, every day, they're FANTASTIC and i'm 61
strange seeing them in Australia when no-one was ..er...dancing...all air conditioning and stood with lagers. Probs better than the new gig thing of taking mobile phone videos. wankers.
"Some Kind of Wonderful" a John Hughes movie, probably intro'd me to JAMC. I was in high school, so yeah. I was fortunate enough to see JAMC at Brixton Academy, London, while in the UK for a semester abroad in 1988. I also saw Lick the Tins, another band features on the same soundtrack. I was 19.
gifted bands like the JAMC will always suffer the effect of having the skill to write poignant, deeply affecting songs, and the simultaneous insight to know you can do more sonically than acoustic six-string guitars would ever permit. the result: such bands seem doomed to being under-appreciated... that is, until (inevitably, inelegantly, and thankfully), history comes to the rescue.
Lo que tienen que hacer los góticos estos (the mission, l&r, Sisters...) es comprarse una cuerda lo suficientemente larga y al árbol que es gerundio. Vive le poonk rock.
Weird... different version, and video! Don't get me wrong; I'm diggin it. I guess no one has the OTHER video up on UA-cam? I have it on VHS somewhere...
In early 2000 two mates (musicians) of mine and me started a JMC tribute band...we rehearsed for about two months then split. We did Here Comes Alice , Darklands, In a Hole and this marvellous tune too...I was on G & voice, it was fun...one of my Fave bands of all times.
Complete Discography (full length) in vinyl, in CD, in Boxes, and their all other features and formats, comprehensive collaboration and much more. Books, books+CD promo, and unavailables. Mine Live Jigs tickets. Almost complete bootlegs collection, in tapes, vinyls and CD. And more over. I'm stop here. 😁😉😇🤪🤪🤪

One of their best songs. Turn it up to 11. Psycho Candy was such a ground-breaking album. Was lucky enough to see them a couple of years ago and meet William.
Neighbour below me is away, house to myself, an evening with the JAMC at full crank. Amazing band. The Hardest Walk is just a great song
true that!
To me their best song ever, no doubt about that. Psychocandy was a real milestone But a line like "The hardest walk you could ever take Is the walk you take from a to b to c " woven on that underlying sweet sunny buzz is just pure gold silk. thanks Jim
+tom tuerlinckx it is my favorite as well. I've probably listened to this single song atleast 50 times
+Jeremy Seinfeld I listen to this probably 1000 times
+lele ferrari and taste the floor
but is it better than
Madonna
Hardest Walk to me is the tuneful, universally listenable one though. Got a soft spot for In a Hole though "God spits on my soul, theres something dead inside my hole"

Thanks, I'll check the other bands you mentioned. Only heard the Pogues.
JMC should've made it big because they deserve it not for the reason of being indie. I bet you even JMC themselves wished they made it big
Well the Pogues never became mainstream.
40 years of being the biggest, non-mainstream band on the planet. What could be better than that?
Beach Boys on acid. Coolest band ever. Brilliant melody. Their haircuts rule as well. When JAMC spikes up the distortion, i experience a rush like a drug and want more of it.
2019 and still a fan!!! JAMC!!!
*update* 2024 Still a JAMC fan!!!
And forever and ever ;)
Once a fan always a fan.
Sempre.Do caralho
2021..
Update at my funeral, still a JAMC fan
Love this song. Some Kind of Wonderful movie soundtrack is AWESOME and this song makes me feel all warm inside.
John Hughes movie soundtracks were epic

because it doesn't fit the preexisting cookie cutter commercial crap out there
HARD AGREE!
I never thought that this day would ever come

And I'm stuck in a shack
Down the back of the sea
Oh and I'm alive and I'm alone
Inside a sick sick dream
Oh is it me
Is it me that feels so weak

Gonzalo Villa , thank you

Same here! 😃
Every song Of JAMC touch the inner side of me.
It lasts for almost 40 years.
I'll die with the Reid brothers.
thank fuck for JAMC in the mid 80's it saved my teenage life from all that 80's nonsense, I had a rock to cling to.as a 15 year old it was like music sent from the gods. and do you know what it as aged a fucking amazingly well , as a 47 year old i still love it.

This is one of the greatest songs ever written, and it's even more amazing live.
LOVE this song! It just bites into you and doesn't let go.

The soundtrack of the John Hughs movie "Some Kind of Wonderful".
greenmantles One of my favorite movies and soundtracks!!!
That one and the Valley Girl soundtrack are absolutely phenomenal. Still listen to both all the time.
Funny that an anti-corporate song was used in a movie by a corporate director. Lol
alternative version
I want this to be played at my funeral
Me too ;)
And me and also Happy when it rains.
Good idea 😎 and sunglasses required .But the priest would never agree 😭
The Power Of Negative Thinking B-Sides And Rarities

The way Jim Reid sings in that 60s way is so soulful and passionate, I love it.
OMG I LOVE THE JAMC FOREVERRRRRRRR
had MUNKI since it came out, just recovered all the other albums, made a nice list for my iPod of my 43 fave JESUS & MARY CHAIN songs, and listen to it since a few months, every day, they're FANTASTIC and i'm 61
everything they do is sooo goood !!! love every track dude
strange seeing them in Australia when no-one was ..er...dancing...all air conditioning and stood with lagers. Probs better than the new gig thing of taking mobile phone videos. wankers.
The most underrated band of all time, jamc
Who came up with the haircut first? These guys or the Cocteau Twins? Both bands are Scottish.
The lyric play twist in the out chorus is one of my all-time fav moments in ALL music.
Some kind of wonderful did not bring here The jesus and mary chain fucking did
Definately not the version from Psycho Candy.
where is this version from? I like this better than the psychocandy version
Brilliant beyond compare.
I was 19.

2024 JAMC forever!!!!
Magnifique !
I like the key this version is in better than Psychocandy's, but the other version is undoubtedly better.
It's like when you about to hit the pipe and then relief
I love this song
how are there possibly 20 thumbs down?? pure gold right here!!
Perfect pop moment, epic sound...
Lo que tienen que hacer los góticos estos (the mission, l&r, Sisters...) es comprarse una cuerda lo suficientemente larga y al árbol que es gerundio. Vive le poonk rock.
Is that Syd Barrett on your avatar?
@@MrBooYa-yd5er Hahah. No, its me near Rob Younger, more than 20 years ago.

Jesus fuck
Never thought years ago when I worked to promote them that I would be paying best part of a ton to get tickets! But maybe my last hurrah of gigs.
In early 2000 two mates (musicians) of mine and me started a JMC tribute band...we rehearsed for about two months then split. We did Here Comes Alice , Darklands, In a Hole and this marvellous tune too...I was on G & voice, it was fun...one of my Fave bands of all times.

Douglas is a friend . i mind him saying they had a new style PUNKROCK
for everyone wondering, this is the Demo version of the song. its off of the compilation The Power of Negative Thinking B-sides + Demos
+cool3865 I believe this track to be considered as more of a 'B-Side / Rarity' than a demo, as it's a more polished version than the one on Psycho Candy. Not to mention the revised fade-out verse... which is one of the best lyrics ever (IMO).
This isn't a demo version. It's on the soundtrack to the 1987 film "Some Kind Of Wonderful".
What version is this? It's obviously not the same recording that appears on Psychocandy. Sure sounds good though!
"The Power of Negative Thinking"
what a wonderful band, i listen to them since months got all their albums, music is the best !

One of their best songs. Turn it up to 11. Psycho Candy was such a ground-breaking album. Was lucky enough to see them a couple of years ago and meet William.
