From the USA: I think you have the best reviews. When I buy a car I want to know how it handles on the real road and not the race track. You do that better than anyone. Also you give the options of interior and exterior choices and what the benefits or downside might be of each. Fantastic!
33:56 That was when the dual clutch got wrong prediction bring to you. sry for my english if u could understand. （that moment is the DSG prepared to get higher gear but actually when u put ur feet down suddenly the DSG got wrong prediction so DSG got to move to lower gear from the higher gear, then you get dat kind situation and thats why making dual clutch not reliable bcus its not like AT gearbox, duel clutch only prepare on one gear(Torque converter)

1. Virtual cockpit is a necessity. It means more dough but I think it's a really nice innovation that adds to the experience. 2. Red rings and accents are garish and I normally like red interiors. 3. I know Thomas likes the seats but they really don't seem like they are that supportive (not much bolstering). 4. Another great review Thomas!

Would I go for the Virtual Cockpit? I wouldn't even consider buying a car that has such a cool thing as an option without it. Anybody buying an Audi without Matrix Leds, the virtual cockpit and no cool rims really misses out on some of the better things in life.
Some of these options combined cost upwards of $11,000. I think given the choice, most people would buy a high end car with no options over a low end car with all options. Audi will definitely sell more cars without it, although it might become standard one day.
Tough call. You add all the features and you can have a slightly lesser equipped model up. Still worth it though! Virtual cockpit is coming to the VW's though... which is kind of a kick in the nuts for Audi drivers.

So, I'm in the US and we're not getting the "under the hood" updates. My biggest concern is the 6 vs 7 speed transmission. Do you European owners think it's worth the wait for the 7 speed and extra HP?

I have been a fan of the black ops for some time, but the new facelift I LOVE the chrome. Black ops looks like a 'tuner' car, chrome trim looks high quality, executive car. Picking mine up Saturday!
Will just add another comment. You're not the first to notice come weird behavior about the shifting and reving of some Audi models Tomas. My dad has a Audi A6 2.0TDI ultra with the S-tronic from 2014 and he also has experienced some weird behaviors when flooring it. In his case the engine just downshifts and revs, but there is no acceleration until the car shifts to the next gear after the downshift. To conclude, there is something wrong here.

+PD Show Ich war gestern bei Audi und habe mir meinen s3 Coupe zusammenstellen lassen. Ich habe eigentlich alles reingenommen, nur das virtuelle Cockpit nicht. Kostet inzgesamt 56000€.
@38:20 you can see the gearbox shifts from 5th to 3rd, and this takes a second or so because a DSG can only preselect an even gear if an uneven gear is engaged (probably the 4th in your case). You can probably influence this by varying throttle input. With all types of automatic transmissions, you can provoke unwanted shifts. The only type of transmission which always does what you want is a manual.
For me the biggest change that I'm looking forward to is the 7 speed DSG instead of the current 6 speed DSG in the S3. I hope it brings the rpm down at highways speed a little bit, I always feel it's revving just a little too much.
I personally prefer hatchback's but, I really like the Audi S3 sedan, it's a great looking car, almost coupe like. But as a hatch, personally I would have the Mercedes A Class & BMW 1 Series over the A3!, great work again Autogefühl.

Great car, I own one (not the s3) , with an s-line package. Really good car but unfortunately my sporty steeringwheel has been stolen 5 times already. All people I know that own an Audi A3 have the same problem. A shame that Audi is not really working on a permanent solution, It happens so often I wont consider one again.

No Thomas, I would not go for the virtual cockpit. It will loose power by time as each pixel "wears off", after some years the light it emits will be more than halved and that makes a considerable difference in daylight. VAG doesn't operate with pixel guarantee so your basically on your own there. Also, at night it's very bright, making it quite annoying and harsh on the eyes and there's no adjuster. I would choose the traditional analogue display.

i guess this is the perfect car, even a daily. With a simple remap you can reach easily 370hp and around (or maybe under , 3.8) 4sec 0-100 with affordable consumption. and it looks really nice... its more than enough for legal roads, but its just my opinion.
vitrual cockpit, i have been wiating for it for the A3 range :), very classy and useful, also you can hide the centre retractable screen, to have a less obstructive view of the road.
Are you sure the DSG upshifting sound is intentional? I read from someone claiming to have spoken about this with an engine developer, that the car needs to reduce the torque during shifting when accelerating strongly. And the "fart" sound is really just a side effect of this. I can confirm this behavior with my car, as shifting when accelerating slowly does not cause the sound. The more aggressively you accelerate, the louder the sound.
30:40 Not sure about Germany, but in Hungary, you can do whatever you want on your phone as long as it isn't in your hands. If you have a car mount, you can even play games on it legally. Doesn't mean you should, but you can.
You can actually get daytona grey on any A3 (cab, sedan, sportback) , but it is quite expensive if you order it without the s line package. Daytona grey is my favorite Audi paint, in combination with the chrome package.
Could you share the db value of each car that you have tested? And the key information of size of the ring if could be included would also be very helpful. Thanks.
38:25 - this "boost hole" that you experienced is probably just a prosaic turbo lag. But what else did you expect from this tiny engine ? It just cannot be as responsive, as an old and big naturally aspirated V8, like on an R8 V8 or an A8 with an FSI engine. That's a sad truth, but a truth nevertheless.
This happens on the down shift 4th to 2nd or 5th to 3rd, got an A4 quattro s-tronic also does the same thing. Jerky but doesnt waste time, if you put in manual its fine cause its manual. The computer set up is always 2 gears up to save fuel.
Having experienced this untidy reaction on your kick down, would you reconsider your preference on DSG over the manual transmission? I knew I'd not be happy with that unnatural throttle response.

Hi, I drove the S3 Sportback (sepang blue with performance package). That means all the sport extras in south hemisphere (Australia). I didn't notice any funny turbo lag, but I didn't drive the car long enough to evaluate it deeply. Also I preferred the dynamic drive mode more than comfort with the drive select system. It worked very well around normal back roads and free ways. It gave the car more stability and solid steer. This seems contrary to most opinions. I think reviews of the S3 from auto channels to be understating and too critical, maybe because of its price and possibly brand bias, but the S3 is a spectacular machine. I want it!

Great review Thomas, as always. I must admit I am not a fan of the Audi A3. The various knobs and buttons may make a great clicking sound but this is not enough. No hiding from the fact that this car is overpriced and cramped. Also, I have had the chance to drive one at launch and I wasn't impressed by the quality of the dashboard plastics which are cheap and the tiny rear view mirror....it rides well and feel well screwed though...for the price I would go one class higher from the competition
As a 1.6 Tdi A3 S-Line/Ambition owner, the only thing about the facelift that makes me sad is the new S-Line bodykit. Damn it looks soo good! Didn't like the new front and back headlights though.

U mean that the doors click in a certain half holding position while opening them? That's common to VAG cars

Are you sure the DSG upshifting sound is intentional? I read from someone claiming to have spoken about this with an engine developer, that the car needs to reduce the torque during shifting when accelerating strongly. And the "fart" sound is really just a side effect of this. I can confirm this behavior with my car, as shifting when accelerating slowly does not cause the sound. The more aggressively you accelerate, the louder the sound.

30:40 Not sure about Germany, but in Hungary, you can do whatever you want on your phone as long as it isn't in your hands. If you have a car mount, you can even play games on it legally. Doesn't mean you should, but you can.

I really like the Audi metallic blue colors!
You can actually get daytona grey on any A3 (cab, sedan, sportback) , but it is quite expensive if you order it without the s line package. Daytona grey is my favorite Audi paint, in combination with the chrome package.

38:25 - this "boost hole" that you experienced is probably just a prosaic turbo lag. But what else did you expect from this tiny engine ? It just cannot be as responsive, as an old and big naturally aspirated V8, like on an R8 V8 or an A8 with an FSI engine. That's a sad truth, but a truth nevertheless.
This happens on the down shift 4th to 2nd or 5th to 3rd, got an A4 quattro s-tronic also does the same thing. Jerky but doesnt waste time, if you put in manual its fine cause its manual. The computer set up is always 2 gears up to save fuel.
Having experienced this untidy reaction on your kick down, would you reconsider your preference on DSG over the manual transmission? I knew I'd not be happy with that unnatural throttle response.
I wouldnt use dynamic mode anyway, I would just stay in the auto mode. So for my normal driving, it wouldnt matter. But good question!
Do you recommend the Audi Magnetic Ride suspension? Is there a big difference between the Magnetic Ride and the normal sport suspension?

I have one question, though. I like to use Navigon in my iPhone for navigation as this offers the option for beautiful roads, an option navigation in Audis does not offer, unfortunately.
But can you use Navigon via Car Play - and if yes, is use of all functions in Navigon possible? Or is Car Play restricted to certain apps, for instance Apples own apps?

1- Are the 18' more comfee and less sound comparing to the 19" ?

overall Audi have made the S3 slightly better looking,love the new chrome grill it looks more money than the current S3"s grill,Daytona Grey is awesome looking on the sedan but Audi why have you deleted Sepang blue??naughty naughty Audi lol. Ara blue crystal paint is a £2075 paint option very expensive, and again Thomas you're car reviews,keep getting better
Hi Thomas, I do also prefer the chrome grill, although the black does look very good on white S3's. As you mentioned that you like the Sepang Blue colour (not Thomas Blue), well, in fact I am about to test drive a Sepang Blue Audi S3 today, it looks spectacular!.... maybe this will be my new Audi very soon. well done on your review, nice work!

Hi, I drove the S3 Sportback (sepang blue with performance package). That means all the sport extras in south hemisphere (Australia). I didn't notice any funny turbo lag, but I didn't drive the car long enough to evaluate it deeply. Also I preferred the dynamic drive mode more than comfort with the drive select system. It worked very well around normal back roads and free ways. It gave the car more stability and solid steer. This seems contrary to most opinions. I think reviews of the S3 from auto channels to be understating and too critical, maybe because of its price and possibly brand bias, but the S3 is a spectacular machine. I want it!

Great review Thomas, as always. I must admit I am not a fan of the Audi A3. The various knobs and buttons may make a great clicking sound but this is not enough. No hiding from the fact that this car is overpriced and cramped. Also, I have had the chance to drive one at launch and I wasn't impressed by the quality of the dashboard plastics which are cheap and the tiny rear view mirror....it rides well and feel well screwed though...for the price I would go one class higher from the competition
I'd prefer a brushed aluminium finish on the front grill the best to also match the door mirrors as on all S models
As a 1.6 Tdi A3 S-Line/Ambition owner, the only thing about the facelift that makes me sad is the new S-Line bodykit. Damn it looks soo good! Didn't like the new front and back headlights though.
