Good to see James is still kicking .. He used to run a Gas Station there and he was a friend of mine and worked on my Truck .. James would work on the cars in the Garage and his Wife would pump the gas and wipe your windshield and Shooter would sometimes help also
Thanks for that walk down memory lane. I had most of those albums from when I was in high school and into college. Still love that music, though. And with Crystal Gayle, man! What pipes they all had!!
Don't know what year this happened...my friend is in his 40's... My friend Wade is from Amherst, Tx. just up the road from Littlefield, Wade ran out of gas near Littlefield on his way from Lubbock to home. Guy in an old beat up pickup stops to help. Had Jennings Service on the door. It was James. Took care of my buddy...ya never know. Wade and his sis still own the family place...
This was awesome. It's so great to hear tales told of days gone by from those who were there. There's a book waiting to happen with James's stories. I hope one day to see it.
Was glad to see this episode. Big Waylon fan. In fact, I donated my autographed tour book and 2 welcome signs that look like Waylon’s guitars. You can see one of them a couple of times in this episode. James drove me around Littlefield and showed me where they did things growing up and told me stories. It was a fun day.
I did not know Thomas Jennings died. I knew their uncle Elvis Shipley who lived in Lovington, New Mexico where I used to live. I am originally from Littlefield and knew Waylon and the Jennings and Shipley families well. I used to buy watermelons from Waylon's dad who peddled watermelons in the late 50's and early 60's. I don't know James. Also, did not know Littlefield was "wet" now. It was dry back in my day making the local bootleggers rich.
If I ever get back to Texas i want to definitely visit Waymore's liquor store and also the Waylon Jennings RV Park there in Littlefield. Would be cool to get to meet James. ❤=w=❤
Another interesting fact is that Waylon was supposed to be on the plane that crashed killing Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper, and Buddy Holly. At the last minute he gave up his seat to the Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson) because Richardson was sick with the flu and it would save him from the really long ride in the tour bus which kept breaking down. Waylon was hired by Buddy Holly as his bass player for the tour.
Waylon and Buddy were actually friends, and the reason Waylon gave up his seat on the plane to the Big Booper was because the Booper was throwing a fit claiming he was a big star not Waylon, and he should be on the plane not the bus, not because he was sick, Richie Valens was the one that was sick, Waylon told that story himself .
@@ronaldgillaspy9654 I have to believe the store that came from Waylon himself to be true, he told the story in a magazine interview that I read in the 70's then again years later in a TV interview I was watching. So I believe it is true
@@ronaldgillaspy9654 wasn't trying to sound like a smart a$&, just passing on a little more information, straight from the horses mouth as ol ' Waylon would say.
Just got to go to Way more's last week. Met James and he told me stories while showing me around.Great day with a great guy
Keeping the memories alive. Proper tribute to a Brother who needs to be remembered.
Just strolling along UA-cam and found this, one of the coolest short interviews .

What a great video, and a great tribute to Waylon, he sure was a good ole boy!!!
He was born in Littlefield TX, a tiny village. Another person born there was Lisa Whelchel, aka the preppy Blair Warner on The Facts of Life.
Are you serious? Had the biggest crush on her when i was kid.
Lfd not a village its my town
Learning from the pass will always make you happy, and feel great.

Oh, leave ol' James alone. Some folks don't like goin to the dentist. Besides, he seems happy to me.
Why does it matter
