As a Montreal native, I don't feel this video was very representative of cost of living here. Even the interview with the local. I lived comfortably on minimum wage for many years, when it was quite a bit lower than it is now. Griffintown and Plateau are also both trendy, expensive neighbourhoods. Also -10 is definitely not cold around here in the winter.
-10! I've been in California all my life, the winters hardly get below 40 farenheit and I would die in -10. Although I would probably love the comparitively cooler summers in Canada lol..
@@BUCKETHEADache Bad news... it gets pretty hot here in the summers (upwards of 30c and HUMID as all hell, it's like being wrapped in a hot wet blanket).
@@HelloDorkness it got up to almost 50c last summer where I am but its not very humid usually... Just looked up 30c and that is only 86 degrees farenheit lol thats nothing that is a good day for us..
@S M probably in the HoMa area, if you want to stay within easy distance of downtown. Verdun and Ville Emard are also very reasonably priced. I live in Ville Emard and pay under $600 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment. If you go to cheaper areas on the South Shore (like Lemoyne), you can get a two bedroom apartment for around $600.
I live in Northwest US and visited Montreal many times and stayed up there for about a month. For sure, there was a lot of difference between the US and Canada the way of life. There is some good and not good. It depends on your choice of what is your priorities. Overall, Canada has a less comfortable daily life than in the US but less stress for sure. On the run, I choose to have a life with less stress and more relaxation...and that is in Canada. I only speak with my experience only, and I respect others' opinions if I was wrong. Montreal has very good public transportation, people I met and talked to are so fine. Crime rate like burglars or car break-ins is much much lower than in the US. The police are very friendly and cool. I did not see much of homeless and drug-addicted. The city of Montreal takes good care of the park and creation many activities for people to enjoy the way of life, summer, and winter. Montreal had a lot of snow every year but it all the road are clear when you wake up to go to work. No need for cable or tire chain at all. Almost did not have stud snow tires. I love Montreal. J'aime Montréal. Vive Quebec from Portland, Oregon. U.S. See you again soon YUL airport, la belle province Montréal. Hello Bích Hồ et Caroline.
I would say there's no need to convert it to the US dollar. Especially if the conversion rate is changing and we have no idea which one you are using. Better just leave in CA next time.
That's actually a really good feedback, but the problem is that nobody except Canadians and maybe some other countries nearby know how much a Canadian dollar is worth. On the other hand everybody knows how much us Dollars are worth (even in theyr own currency). And if you want to know the exchange rate you can just Google it at the time I posted the video.
Despite the gfact I live in Canada, I think that's shit advice. Then your videos as a whole become less useful. Viewers don't want to have to math their way through a youtube video. As it is we can compare easily between your videos. PS- plateau studio for 675CAD? not since 2005

Cool, thanks for commenting. I did lots of other cities already, maybe there are some videos on the channel that interest you. I reccomend you check it out.
Citrus fruits and kiwis are not seasonal fruits in Montreal wtf. Of course that's gonna be expensive if you're buying shit grown out of season in Chile and California, flown in to Montreal. You can get a bushel of apples (40lbs) for 6 dollars at the Jean-Talon market. Cabbage, potatoes, and squash are cheaper in the fall and winter, and you can buy berries in bulk in the summer to freeze them for the rest of the year. It'll always be more expensive to buy things out of season, and not locally
It's very expensive to live anywhere in Canada. Quebec is the highest taxed province in Canada, if not the highest taxed place to live in any country. You have to remember he's quoting in U.S. dollars. Be sure to jack up the prices he mentions.
@@pwnageshow2549 The thing is, few people make minimum wage to begin with. You're right about Montreal not having a whole lot of 6-figure/year jobs. It's a province-wide thing as only 4% of the population make that kind of money. Mostly politicians.
It's monopolized by two major telecom companies and thus they can charge whatever they like. Smaller companies than the large two must use their networks/satellites so there really isn't competition.
$329 for groceries omg... so in Canadian dollars does it feel like they’re spending that much? Or does it just seem expensive because it’s been converted?
85$ for monthly pass... I pay 124$ for STUDENT monthly pass for ttc and the bloody trains don't even work half the fucking time, they are only 2 shitty lines going up and down, fucking disgrace that they are even upping the rate absolutely disgusting
Plateau mont-royal is one of the most expensive place to live lol. Many mistakes there. Also important to mention that French is mandatory on the long run, by law and for respect to locals.
costoflivingin montreal has less than 30% migrants. There is no Western big city with 3/4 immigrants....& montreal is not a nation as far as I know. Greater montreal has around 15% migrants. Montreal is still in majority Francophone & is officially a Francophone city by law. By respect to local means to not try to change its nature .... on purpose without respect. Problem of some short time travelers is that they have no clue of the history of this city & they only stay in zones where they feel comfy.. meaning anglophone enclaves...

Sorry, but nope. I don't like it. When aspiring travel vloggers come into town and think they understand a city after an extremely short time... it makes me cringe. Pseudo-statistics doesn't work for me and gives a wrong impression. Please consider doing something else.
1) I'm not a travel vlogger, lol 2) I don't show any statistics 3) I actually show prices and that's something totally objective so I'm not making up anything. I literally go to grocery stores and look up the prices. I even interview locals so I get a second opinion just in case I'm completely wrong. Instead of telling me that I'm wrong tell me what's wrong maybe...

costoflivingin + Quebec province is a Nation. A francophone one and those who founded Canada more than 500 years ago. Montreal is in Quebec.
