Winter is NOT eight to nine months of the year (unless you were raised in the heat of a desert). If you define winter as the time in which snowfall is 'possible', winter is about six months long (November through April). Then we have two months of spring (May, June), two months of summer (July, August), and two months of autumn (September, October). For at least half the winter it is perfectly comfortable if you dress reasonably, like a winter jacket, toque, scarf and gloves. In the three months where it might be colder in winter, you add a sweater to that jacket and wear a pair of winter boots, and again, you will be perfectly comfortable. Also, Montreal is famous for having a huge underground city network. If you pick your living accommodations appropriately, it is perfectly possible to leave your apartment on the coldest day of winter wearing nothing more than maybe a sweater, no jacket, no gloves, nothing else, and do everything you would want to do, including go to your university (depends on the university and program). Shopping, including groceries, going to the cinema, going to restaurants, bars, etc. is all available without once stepping outside into the winter.
@@richcorrea-lampasona7288 Yes, but it is more than that. There are huge shopping centers, malls, etc., all linked through that subway, and once you are in the downtown underground, you could walk all day, never taking the metro (subway), yet never going outside, being treated to a never ending series of shops, restaurants, etc..
Very good video. But to be more precise and correct, Montréal is a French City. Not bilingual thus the signs, the lady in the Subway will only speack french, as it should. But, most people in the city are bilingual or will take time to help you, even if English is not their mother tongue.
Oh girl, as we townies always say, there are two seasons in Montreal: Winter and construction. Personally, I love the winter, our summers are horribly hot and so humid. Winters are fine though, you just need to dress up and walk fast, and you should generate enough body heat to keep you warm (provided you have a good jacket).
FYI the reason rents (and food etc) are more “affordable” than the rest of Canada is because the average income in Quebec is also lower than the rest of Canada
I've gone to Montreal twice, once with my school. (It was a 10 hour drive!) and the second time we had gone to Ottawa for a wedding, and my Aunt had moved to Montreal for university so we visited her and I got to see Concordia(the school i want to go to.)! Very helpful video which tells you the key things you need to know about student life at McGill!! Sounds like a tough Uni to get into but once you are there, it seems everyone works hard and plays hard!!
Great vidéo! However, winter 8-9 months is a bit exagerated. There is Spring and Autumn, but I understand that coming from the desert, these ''look'' like winter! And summers are often very hot and humid, stick around for it! Lol. Anyways, very funny your anecdote about standing on the right side of the escalator! It's one of those unwritten laws here.... :-)
There are many McGill and Concordia students who cannot speak even basic French. Many of them complain when they have trouble communicating with the local population. It is rather annoying.

For foreigners from summer year long countries, winter for them, winter begin when you need to put a jacket to go outside. That’s the reason she is saying that.
@@sammexp I understand your point of view and as you pointed out " foreigners from summer year long countries" need to understand that there are countries with 4 seasons: sprint - summer - autumn - winter, not winter - summer - winter - winter. camren Jauregui ideally. Public transport self service kiosks has an English option to purchase tickets. A good 90% of people can speak or understand English,.
Ghislain Laframboise agreed. Was hanging around parc Maisonneuve a lot this year, because the inflation of rent has increased and space for immigrants has diminished in the city center of the island, there’s a big influx of English speakers throughout Rosemont petit patrie, hochelaga, mercier-Maisonneuve. It’s my grades over the course of this year that worries me... do you think it’ll affect whether I get in or not?
don't stress too much about getting in. as long as you meet the minimum requirements (or exceed them by a bit) you'll be okay! don't forget that universities are taking into consideration the difficult circumstances were all in right now!
Thank you so much for his video i am from Jordan and I’m going to move soon for university (concordia university) and this was so helpful and such a stress relief everything is so positive 😭😭😭😭thank you
its always best to walk with a friend a night! no matter where you are its always best that way! I would say (typically) the downtown is less safe than other places!
Here is a little fact-check : Montreal is not a bilingual city : Section 1 of the Charter of the city reads : Montréal est une ville de langue française (Montréal is a French-speaking city). That's why the lady in the metro speaks French only, and signs are in French. Of course, most Montrealers are bilingual thus this idea that the city is bilingual.
Dose of Yasmeen yup! I don’t even live in Montreal & I follow MTLblog. Gives me some ideas of what to do when I visit - cool bars & restos to hit up. It’s awesome. And UA-cam, of course UA-cam! The Vagabrothers series on Quebec I really liked!

@@doseofyasmeen Hi I'm new to your channel, I got interested to watch your videos since I'm moving to Montreal to study Music but I haven't decided where to study, can I request if maybe you can make videos about studying music at Mcgill University ? Thanks in advance, BTW I'm Judy from Philippines 😊
omg how were you going to university at 16?
girl i'm so glad and thankful to have found your video seriously... i spend 2 hours on youtube looking students video in montreal and those videos were soo negative with really bad vibes from their experience and i'm so happy right now to find your vid. thank you so so much, have a nice day :) i have a question: what do you study at mcgill?
omg i can't believe i just saw this!! you are SO sweet that literally made my whole day! I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful!
Very good information. Merci beaucoup mademoiselle
glad it helped!
Wow! I thank you for this very informative vlog! Was motivated and really need to get prepared.
You got this! so glad this was helpful!!
"8 to 9 months of winter"? Girl please...is started snowing in December and we had this year 30°C in April...count again...
For foreigners from summer year long countries, winter for them, winter begin when you need to put a jacket to go outside. That’s the reason she is saying that.
thank you sam :)
@@sammexp I understand your point of view and as you pointed out " foreigners from summer year long countries" need to understand that there are countries with 4 seasons: sprint - summer - autumn - winter, not winter - summer - winter - winter. This is the part that I found out of place from her video. Montreal has all seasons and each of them is different and beautiful in their own way. Spreading stereotypes about Montreal and Canada is not nice. :)
Hello. Can you provide me some detail because i also want to go to montreal for study.
I live in Brampton and wanna move to montreal can u give me some tips I’m only 18
Tysm if u reply
hey! what questions do u have?
Hi, I have listened a lot of good recommendations from Montreal, can you recommend colleges in Montreal where speak only in English…thank you!
You mentioned Montreal blog.. Can you please share the link to that?
www.mtlblog.com
I came a month ago you came. Montreal is awesome except for the Winter. Come to the lower field (in front of redpath museum) sometimes to watch us play cricket
I'm taking this as my sign to move to Montreal
If you’re okay telling me, What part of Montreal did you move to? My family is moving there after some other family members decided to move as well :)
This was super helpful! I’m looking into studying abroad. Thank you!
Yayy so glad to hear that❤️
Great video!! Your apartment looks great, how much is your rent? Please make a video on how to find new apartments with Dishwasher and utilities included. Thanks.
Definitely will be doing that soon! I don’t pay rent bc we own the apartment!!
@@doseofyasmeen how much was the apartment to purchase?
Hi!! I was thinking about moving to Montreal but I was afraid about the french haha, which level of french, based on your expierence, would you recommend to learn?? I took some classes at school but rn I don´t remember and I barely understand the language hahhah
hello!! don't worry about it like if you have some basic words in mind thats fine but i would recommend you take some beginner classes in uni!! like everyone speaks english so you'll definelty get by but french makes your life so much easier
do you think I can still become bilingual in English if I go to an English college in Montreal ? ( I'm French)
DEFINITELY! so many students do it
Okay thank you! Do you know Concordia University ? Is it great ?
Loved your content. just a quick question, how do you study in McGill while you are 17? Is there ways to study in university before 18 or 19?
thank you!!
In winter i just don't go out... saves me some money though
i have a really important question. i'm gonna move to montreal next year. and im literally so awfull in french haha. is it necessary to speak french in there. or....?
camren Jauregui ideally. Public transport self service kiosks has an English option to purchase tickets.
A good 90% of people can speak or understand English,.
camren Jauregui saying this as a local.
As well as many many Italians and other ethnic backgrounds who speak English first represented in Pointe aux trembles and rivière des prairies.
Just respecful , As Roman do as Romans do!
@@evanghetler474 . But i refuse to speak it .
Winter 8 months? Com'on. From Dec. to March, 4 months. Don't mix up Fall and Spring with winter.
IS IT DIFFICULT TO GET JOBS IF YOU DON'T KNOW FRENCH?
Bohe Mian omg yes like in my experience I wasn’t able to find a job bc I don’t really know basic French either but like u don’t have to be super fluent for some jobs u just need enough to get by
That's okay i know some french and coming to Montreal next year! À bientôt✨
@@doseofyasmeen After one year , still do not know basic french ! It is rude and disrespecful ! it is not to the locals to adapt to you! That why i refuse to speak english in Montréal. .Learning others languages , but not french canadian culture .RUDE!
Let's just say that if you apply to a job and you only speak english and there's someone else applying for the same job who's bilingual, they gonna take the bilingual one - coming from a french canadian lmao
In 2018, there were around 35,500 international university students in Greater Montréal! Not exactly hundreds of thousands😉
Shit I live in Germany, but Montreal sounds soo interesting. I should visit Montreal when I’m ready with school, maybe stay there for a while xD
definitely !!!!
Better learn French
Can u also talk about what jobs r there
Yasmine thank u sm for ur vid about Montreal and McGill!! I wanna go to McGill 🥺now. Would u might sharing ur stats and ECs that help you go into McGill? Thank u thank u❤️☺️
which one is good for an international students - on campus or off campus?
both work! being on-campus helps you become a little bit more familiar with your university's community. when your international, it helps connect you with others from around the world!
This video was very helpful thank you very much
Glad it was helpful!
Welcome to Montreal Glad to discover your Channel
Welcome aboard!
ooft idk what’s happening to my WiFi
But how were your grades like to get in?
cause usually I’m at the top of my class but this year has been so bad especially cause of corona and other circumstances and I failed an exam for the first time in my life idk if that one single time and my other generally bad grades this year will affecting the decision
I’m following the British A levels system and my grades for my AS (last year) good.
@@doseofyasmeen thanks!
Why not Toronto
Toronteaux is filled with the most racist people on earth ( also, winter is cold and humid just like the angloïds ) !
Great video ❤️
Glad you liked it!!
Thank you so much for his video i am from Jordan and I’m going to move soon for university (concordia university) and this was so helpful and such a stress relief everything is so positive 😭😭😭😭thank you
yay!! I'm soooo happy to hear that this was helpful!! hope you love it as much as i do!!
Is it safe there ? Generally when walking around ?
its always best to walk with a friend a night! no matter where you are its always best that way! I would say (typically) the downtown is less safe than other places!
Montréal is a VERY safe city. There are buses running all night long on main streets.
Love Montreal and MTLblog. Not a teen but it's good for us old folks too haha
OJ hahah that’s great to hear!
When she said 17, I knew my life was a lie 😂💀 bruh she looks 19+ lol
bahahahaha everyone says this
Soon I will be there in sha Allah
Winter are not 8 to 9 months :) real winter is 4 months. But it's true, the weather is bipolar lol
How arnt you in high school at seventeen?
I started early and so graduated early!!
Also that vegan teacher lives there
Are you really enjoying some of the local french culture? or not?
definitely!
@@doseofyasmeen Enjoying the french culture without speaking french! How???? Like a blind enjoying and fire-work!
Me and some buds are moving there later. Just doing some research thanks!
Welcome!!
Hey girl thanks for the video, it's so helpful! I'm currently debating moving to Montreal for uni next summer. Since most of the classes will be online, I'm hesitant to move there if i'm gonna be stuck in my dorm 24/7. Do you think the student life in Montreal is still worth it, even with the pandemic?
Hi !! Thank you!! Im so glad to hear that!! I definitely think you should come despite the pandemic because you'll still be able to make so many new friends and so many great memories within ur uni community!!
Hi! I'm thinking of moving to Montreal for College. I want to study something related to singing or music composition, do you know if there is a university where I can study something like that? btw loved your video!
thank you so much! I don't know much about the performing arts but I do know that there is a music faculty at McGill University!
@@doseofyasmeen thank u so much for responding! I investigated a bit about the Music Performance: Voice Undergraduate Admissions in McGill ! but i'm not sure if it's for opera singers only, because I want to study singing in the pop/contemporary music area, not in the classical one. There's not much information about it on the official page. Is there any possibility that you know something about it or do you know someone who knows about it or studies that career? It would be really helpful!🥺 ❤️ I'm from Latin america so it is a bit hard for me to find that information. I loved your channel so much! new subscriber🥰
