    The beginning of this video, as well as the house were we did the removal, was all part of one of my mail routes back in the 80's through 2009 when I retired. So much has changed, but it's still a beautiful drive. God's peace to all.

    Jack and Sue live in a beautiful location. Great couple. It is always interesting to see where bees make their hive, but they certainly chose a lovely house to dwell in. Can Sue have a garden hive so that any future swarms can move into that in future, to avoid the upheaval to their home. Small world your delivering mail to this address at one time. I’m always amazed at the uncanniness of your ability to always spot the queen amidst so many worker bees! New bee keeper here still struggling with that aspect of my new hobby!! • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  7 місяців тому +2

      When going through a hive it is not important to actually see the queen, the way you do it in my opinion is the best. Find evidence of a queen and get out that way, you don't run the risk of accidentally killing your queen. Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to watch the video, it is greatly appreciated. God's peace.

    I was shocked to see you vacuuming the bees off the comb. It seems very unlike anything I’ve seen in trying to keep things organic or gentle. It was also the first time I saw a hot knife used but I understand the comb is very big and in an awkward position to cut. I wanted to know your thought about the vacuum if you wouldn’t mind. Thanks

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  7 місяців тому +1

      I love the bee vac, and I have been using them to remove and relocate bees for over 13 years. Because the vacs are designed to have very low suction, they do not harm the bees and aid tremendously in getting the bees removed safely and quickly. Very few professional bee removers do not use a bee vac to get the job done.I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 13 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. Thanks! If there is no queen bee, who lays the egg in the queen capsules?

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  6 місяців тому +1

      Thank you very much for your gift, I am honored you gave it to me. If a hive is queen less, for more than 5 days, without human intervention, the hive will perish. However, if a hive is queen lees for just a day or two, the bees will use an egg that has already been laid and make it into a new queen. This type of queen is called an "emergency" queen because she was made after the old queen died. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. Great video as always - so much fun! Any suggestions for homemade hi e lure? It is the last warm days of autumn here in the North, and yesterday, I saw a bunch of honey bees exploring my friend's mini forest. He has 63 trees on a half acre, mosly black walnut, and then about 400 rose of sharon out front & a bed of 85 bee balm and 12x6 of creeping phlox. That's why it was weird to see them in the back yard instead of the front. I have looked in all the farm supply stores - no bee boxes this late, so I'm going to build one. It won't be a real box with frames as I have no time, but I'll make sure they have some spaces to choose from to conserve heat if they are a small hive or big space to spread into. I'll insulate the outside, and figure out something for feeding. Most)y for now want to keep them out the woodpile and the junk heap.

      How awesome you are going to build a bee hive. I suspect before long yo will be keeping bees for yourself and helping out the neighbors by their presence.I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 13 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.

    That is a beautiful property Mr. Ed!! I suppose that is why that home is ruled by one and only One Queen, and it shows in the flowering of the property. The home itself is a wonderful piece of work, perhaps more so post Katrina. Nice heard of bees for the Abbey too. Such busy little critters. Appears on that warm day the bees had chosen to sleep in a bit? Oh those nice balmy 50 degree temperatures... such distant memories now lol. Here with snow cover lingering, this morning was 11F above. Hope you all have a wonderful week! -Bob...

      If you'd like to buy some of our Abbey Honey, I'd be more than happy to send you some. The cost is $10.00 for a one pound, plastic bottle, and $10.00 for shipping. If you want more than one bottle, the shipping cost is still $10.00 for up to 2 bottles, but each bottle is still $10.00. As soon as I get your check, I will send it out. Make the check out to St. Joseph Abbey but send the letter to:
      Mr. Ed
      75376 River Rd.
      St. Benedict, La. 70457
      If you'd like, I'll even sign the bottle. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks for watching. God's peace Craig.

    Wow, what a beautiful hive, is it possible other bees could make a hive there again because of the small amount of honey left behind?

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  7 місяців тому +1

      I think it is possible because of the wax moth cocoons I found. However, I did not find other evidence, old comb scars, any where. Thanks for watching. God's peace Sharon.

    Why put the brood combs in an ice chest? Forget to bring a hive box? 😊
    Do you ever deal with native bees?

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  7 місяців тому +1

      Because I never frame the comb as I remove it but after the removal is done, mostly for the sake of speed, I always place the comb inside ice chests. Because the ice chests are insulated, it actually keeps the capped brood warm, and when I leave the bees on the comb like I did in the video, it further insures the health of the brood. I don't know about native bees, but all the bees I deal with are feral. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Christa.

    Okay Jeff. Here's what you're gonna do. Cut a 4 x 4 inch square, sans bees, of beeswax filled with honey. Pop it in a little wooden box and send it to me in Tucson. That would be the best ever bee wax honey. That honey is running. The bees won't miss a little square out of their hive. God bless you and Charlie and that dear lady who is queen of her palace. This is the best kind of bee removal.
