The older I get, the more I realize how rare it is to find someone willing to share hard won information and skills.....it's more often a competition where information is power. You not only take the time, you are good at it, and you ask nothing in return for those that can't always contribute. How cool. To grow up these days and have this sort of access would be so amazing. Keep up the good work!
Even guys you work under will bask in the joy of making you feel like a moron everytime you have a question. People in the trades can be so damn bitter. That's why Richard is so refreshing to watch
But I've learned that just because the information is available doesn't mean people are willing to put in the time and effort to perfect a technique or even to execute it properly. That's why it's getting so difficult to find workers that are worth their pay these days. Everyone wants things handed to them.
Phenomenal series Richard. I learned a great deal through watching the entire series and I want to thank you for sharing your expertise, experience and insights.
Hey Richard-appreciate the master class. I just installed Wainscoting in my dining room and followed your guidance. It turned out awesome. All the best
Looks great!!!! The look is a million bucks for an affordable cost of materials. Fine looking mansprout you have helping you too. Enjoy your kids. They don't stay young for long.
7:37 a lesson I learned the hard way, using liquid nails. the hard boards started to delaminate from the drywall. I had to drill drywall screws through the hardboard into the studs to keep it in place. Then I covered the screw with a large framed art.
I wanted to do wainscoting in my bathroom and came across this series. I watched every video and I just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. The info and techniques you shared streamlined my initial thought process and planning. ✌🏼
OMG it looks so beautiful!🙌🏻. Incredible video series, thank you so much. I appreciate all the details & advice you give. I need that track saw, it’s friggin awesome! Lastly, your son is adorable (I know he’s older now), but he was the best part of the video.😆😊
I love finish carpentry TV.. And he told his son to put his safety glasses on and he was standing in the corner covering his eyes with his hands..😂😂😂😂😂😂 kids are so hilarious..
I was watching this project from the beginning, I kept searching for this video thinking it was finished but couldn’t find it! Glad to see the end results!!! Looks great 👍
your son so cute love his safety glasses but im so glad you went back to the room I'm going to do my living room just like that so I have to wait till your done
Another tip to help you secure your sheet goods, is to pull the sheet away from the wall a few inches. It will spider web the adhesive, providing you more area coverage.
I like everything except the electric plug. On my own wc I moved the plug so that is was the same height, but now in the center of the panel. I left the original plug box alone and removed the actual plug and capped with a cover (and the wc completely hides it), used additional 12/2 over to the new box from the original (plastic blue box as no stub was available at the new spot) and installed the plug there. .
1st & foremost Richard thanks to your patience & guidance I’ve now put crown molding throughout my house & now I’ve been educating myself to complete some batten wainscoting in my dining. I’ve watched all the videos and I feel I’m good to go but how can I complete with baseboard heating occupying the majority of the wall. Thanks for your help and thank you for making guys like me able to tackle these projects with professional guidance!!
Hi I looked through your catalogue of videos to see how you do your painting of the wainscoting and i can't find any? So I was wondering if you could do a video showing how you paint the wainscoting, what paint you use, what sheen level, what sprayer you use, how to clean the sprayer and whatever else you think would be relevant?
I'm thinking to myself "I know I've seen something like that backband look inside the panel before". It hit me that it's a similar looking reveal in box beam ceilings that I've seen. I freaking love it man. Amazing work as always.
Great work and very well explained.. I"m panelling out my van at the monent and because of your video's I am being super neat with all the gaps and it's looking sharp. Keep up the good work..
Right on bro. I've been checking out some of your videos. I'm a union carpenter, (general carpenter) but I prefer to do finish work by far amongst all the other crafts. It seems like you got a good thing going for you, and I would work with you anytime. May the Lord bless you and your fam!
One thing that caught my eye particularly was your door trim. The top of the wainscot does not come out beyond the door trim. Was this custom or a piece of door trim that could be purchased from a Hardware store? That same door trim would look very complimentary with a board and batten as well.
Looking for some examples of recessed paneling on a 2 story foyer with stairs. It has many doors and casing and trying to get ideas on how to transition from casing to recessed paneling with a pm
Would love to see you connect with Matt from Demolition Ranch / Off the Ranch. He’s got a nice merch business as well as a mansion build that’s going to need interior work soon
I think that is an awful idea. Matt is too much with his UA-cam persona where as this guy is super chill and down to earth. It would be awkward as fuck
Silly question - but, as the beading is protruding out further than the outer panels, that was a purposeful choice? I've never seen that before. To achieve that would I do something like this? - Outer MDF paneling, 15mm, inner centre board, 9mm, beading 9mm?
That lattice stuff ain't cheap! They don't make it in MDF or FJ...It's very versatile for many projects...I've used as trim many times...Especially on those railing walls we do in basements and I use them in commercial for trimming rock to ceilings. Or making outside and inside corners so you don't have to tape them...
If you made a book of all your design profiles...I would buy it; I think a lot of people would buy it. Mostly because, at least for me, the guys watching your channel can measure, cut and install but we lack the vision of what looks good design wise.
Great work I love the channel. What would you do if your window did not have casings only a window sill that's already installed. Would you but your styles right up to the edge of the window and your top cap be 45 where meets the window edge also
It would be so nice to see the final result after painting. Can you pls estimate how many hours that took all together including to painting?thanks in advance!
Great to see the room coming on ,I only finished a smaller project at home that went on for too long, like yourself due to other work commitments, love the tee shirts but couldn’t justify the Excise Duty this country throws onto merchandise bought from the states, keep up the good work looking great👍 .
Super clean work, and that's a great look with the mini-backband. Question on the electrical outlets: Maybe it doesn't matter for a remodel, but isn't it against code to have the outlet box not flush with the final wall? I'm doing some new construction and my electrician asked me for the overall thickness of my wainscotting/paneling so that he could mount the boxes with the proper amount of stick-out from the 2x framing. I'm sure what you're doing is fine but I am just curious, if any electricians are here in the comments.
nah mate, mount the box flush with the 2x and the proper mud ring for your drywall, the outlet and switches will be fine and snug up to your paneling, longer screws if necessary, and the cover plate will do the rest of the work
LowesDepot! Lmao. I bought 2 dewakee shirts on the last run and I love wearing it in front of the milwaukee employee dudes in the tool section at the depot!
Richard, if i were to use red oak for everything, would you still recommend to cut each panel individually or just run the sheet length wise down the wall then all the 1 bys to that wall?
The least I could do is buy a shirt to say thank you for the insight you have provided on your trade. I kind of wish I never started watching, because I was oblivious to the absolute shit-job in my own house. You taught me to really look at the detail and pay attention, so now I can’t unsee the gaps in my door molding or the horrible miters in my baseboards 😐 (NOT my work btw) anyways, peace.
I agree on the Loctite, a far superior product, liquid nails likes to crack easy indoor and outdoor. Tape the light socket just in case lol, great job Richard!
It looks like you put the hard board onto the drywall after you had already installed the lattice strips you cut down to one inch wide, then the cove last. Is that correct? if the hard board is 3/16" thick, wouldn't that make the lattice depth just under 3/4" and if the cove goes on top of that, is there still a 1/8" reveal? I love the look you have come up with and would like to do that in my house. Love your videos
When doing a wainscot (board and batten) with a mission / craftsman style casing (the 3 piece casing tops you've done in other videos but without a chamfer on the uprights), how do you get the top rail of the board and batten wainscot to merge with the casing? The window casing uprights and top rail and styles are the same thickness, but top rail and styles are raised by the underlying tempered hardboard creating an offset. I don't want to back-cut the rails to merge with the casing uprights and I don't want to plane all of by rails and styles and lose the depth (you've gotten me to love shadows!). The videos are awesome and I am always eager to see new designs from you. Best resource on UA-cam for sure!
In most case door casing isn’t 1.5” this to be able to fit a baseboard in front of the bottom rail, in that case how would you install it, assuming a uneven floor ofc?
I’m guessing you have to caulk the seams between that miniature backband and the main boxes as well as both sides of the cove molding too right? As well as the rest of the cove in the room too. Ton of caulking alone but looks great and like the design a ton!
Looks amazing as always. Love your show and your work. Gonna definately get me a shirt and waiting for a lowesdepot one. Here's an idea, putting chalk board, white board or even cork board in place of the hard board for a kids room or class room. Turn each section or some of them at least into activity areas for littles!

Your little guy is so adorable. Thank you for such a detailed video series. Three years after the fact, excellent.
Hey Richard-appreciate the master class. I just installed Wainscoting in my dining room and followed your guidance. It turned out awesome.
All the best
"Put your safety glasses on man" goes into the corner and covers eyes with hands. Will the cuteness ever end!?! Great video and series man.
I love how he works nice and slow and importantly precise. It goes to show with the right tools and patience you can create a masterpiece
So cute your son learning from the Master!!
Super refreshing to have an instructional video that isn’t at 250 words per minute. Amazing content, thanks so much for sharing your experience! 💪
I see you have the boss with you making sure things get done right!
Foreman :)
This wainscot masterclass has really helped me with my wainscot project, I've just finished cutting my hard board to size.
That supervisor you have is on you all the time😂😂 great video
Looks great!!!! The look is a million bucks for an affordable cost of materials. Fine looking mansprout you have helping you too. Enjoy your kids. They don't stay young for long.
I forgot about you, until i looked for wainscoting, and you can up. Resubcribed

Oh, your little helper is just the cutest!!!!! I want to see him in all your videos. :)
My God…! What a beautiful craftsmanship
Nice job Rich good to see the future of your business is in training
I love finish carpentry TV..
And he told his son to put his safety glasses on and he was standing in the corner covering his eyes with his hands..😂😂😂😂😂😂 kids are so hilarious..
You are my hero. Was wanting to do this project. Watched all the previous videos and was hoping you would finish the series. And here you are.
Just want to say thank you for all your tips. My baseboard job turned out great. Even got recommended for 2 more jobs. Thanks for all your help.
I laughed out loud @10:35 for safety glasses. Always appreciated!
I was watching this project from the beginning, I kept searching for this video thinking it was finished but couldn’t find it! Glad to see the end results!!! Looks great 👍
your son so cute love his safety glasses but im so glad you went back to the room I'm going to do my living room just like that so I have to wait till your done
Thats a great helper you have quiet and observing the best!
I use a Formica roller to put pressure and push the glue around when I do an install like that. The Lowe’s brand to be be exact.
I like using 1/2 plywood glue it to the wall. Then pout the Wayne’s Scott on
Another tip to help you secure your sheet goods, is to pull the sheet away from the wall a few inches. It will spider web the adhesive, providing you more area coverage.

The cove is great. Game changer
Cute boy, well behaved. He will grow up to be proud of his Daddy for how hard he works and the business he has built by himself.

Great video Richard nice to see they family helping out ! great video thanks
Time to update those old outlets to the new nice white square decora outlets
Sweet. I've got my dewaukkee shirt ordered. 👍

glad the shirts are coming back .... also superb work always
Beautiful look as usual. Your son is to cute and his safety glasses on is hilarious.
Great work and very well explained.. I"m panelling out my van at the monent and because of your video's I am being super neat with all the gaps and it's looking sharp. Keep up the good work..
loved this series. i needed the last one as i am doing this same project. thanks for all you do.
Thank you for sharing and always amazed at the precision of all your cuts! Everything fits so perfectly. Awesome work!
Right on bro. I've been checking out some of your videos. I'm a union carpenter, (general carpenter) but I prefer to do finish work by far amongst all the other crafts. It seems like you got a good thing going for you, and I would work with you anytime. May the Lord bless you and your fam!

please let us know when another run of the DeWakee shirts happens. I'd definitely like a couple. Home Lowe's would be hilarious too.
I want a t-shirt with your face on it. You are not only very talented with the finish work but you are most handsome.
That was a great addition to the cove, I like it. Thanks
I like the just shadow look of the ripped piece. But that cove made it pop. Good choice
Richard, finished project looks great and has inspired me and my wife to do some in our kitchen, thanks for your time to inspire us.
Would love to see you connect with Matt from Demolition Ranch / Off the Ranch.
He’s got a nice merch business as well as a mansion build that’s going to need interior work soon
Yup... wanna bring up the views / subs. Team up with Matt.
For sure. There's a ton of trim work that'll need to be done in that house.
That’s a great idea..
They’re pretty far apart (3.5-4 hours) but doable. Matt Risinger with the Build Show is closer in Austin.
I think that is an awful idea. Matt is too much with his UA-cam persona where as this guy is super chill and down to earth. It would be awkward as fuck
Little man covering his eyes LOL too cute!
Silly question - but, as the beading is protruding out further than the outer panels, that was a purposeful choice? I've never seen that before.

Such a great job, thanks very much for all these videos, it's been a real education.
Do you have a video showing how to transition from vertical wood pieces up to a high chair railing with the baseboard?
Great look Richard.

Nicely done, I'm in NH & work like this is always welcomed during the winter months. Love the video's, skip the haters!
Glad you said what you said about Liquid Nails. I always thought What's the hype all about" this stuff sucks.
Thanks for the knowledge.
Great work I love the channel. What would you do if your window did not have casings only a window sill that's already installed. Would you but your styles right up to the edge of the window and your top cap be 45 where meets the window edge also
Wow, that’s looking really good!
Looks really good. Love the series
Please give us an update on the room and what it ended up looking like for your children.
Amazing craftmanship!
It would be so nice to see the final result after painting. Can you pls estimate how many hours that took all together including to painting?thanks in advance!

Great job Richard, i see you got your first student sitting at the head of the class awesome teach them young...
Wish you had XLT..XXLT...(Long Tail)...For big and tall size... Great work on the....Really enjoy your vids....
Especially on the last panel with the outlet, is there any reason not to place the adhesive on the wall and then place the panel?
Here is the link to the shirt! stores.inksoft.com/finish_carpentry_tv/shop/
Thanks for the support!
LowesDepot! Lmao. I bought 2 dewakee shirts on the last run and I love wearing it in front of the milwaukee employee dudes in the tool section at the depot!
Gracias por su enseñanza. Saludos desde Pachuca, Hidalgo. México.
a Mil Kita shirt would be top notch
Have to ask you what sliding miter saw should I replace my old Hitachi with? Thanks Brother.
Outstanding work!
Man. Gorgeous stuff!!

OSHA approved "safety glasses" 🙈 🤣
Fantastic job Rich. Something I aspire to replicate in my house in Scotland. Rob
Sorry, I might have missed it, but what is the purpose of the brown board. Great channel by the way. I learned so much from you.
I agree on the Loctite, a far superior product, liquid nails likes to crack easy indoor and outdoor. Tape the light socket just in case lol, great job Richard!

4:54 well that changed drastically.
the hardboard , was it soaked before fitment. in the uk all hardoard was soaked before fitment to stop it warping
Another fine job brother
I got a shirt finally ! Also you son is so well behaved man. Just taking it in and paying attention. Nice !
Primer and 2 coats of paint on the panels?
Do you ever paint before installing, then come back and sand and touch up?
Great job as always!
