Bobcat Release 2019

- This is a video of my nephew and I releasing a Bobcat from a coyote trap. As always, the non-target animal was released unharmed. Anti-trappers, who often live their lives outside of reality, seem to refuse to accept that trapping is not the evil practice that they condemn it to be. That is why whenever I post videos such as this safe release of a bobcat, they often leave comments claiming that the animal had injuries which it did not have. They also like to leave me death threats and make threats to my family. All offers to meet me in person to discuss these death threats have resulted in the left wing lunatics declining to meet. In the typical leftist fashion, they are only comfortable making calls to violence from a safe space or, on their most ambitious day, they will don identity concealment and hide in a crowd of like minded cowards who attack people who disagree with them.
That is such a cat thing to do, get trapped in one place for hours and then after being let free, they decide they just want to stay there.
I think it didnt know its free yet. Her paw is probably numb as fuck, after being trapped for several hours.
"You know what.. this isn't a bad place"
I think the cat is also afraid to turn its back on what “appears” to be a predator. They’re really keen on keeping tabs on what might be stalking them out in the wild.

Native Coloradoan here. My family comes from the San Juan range. I'm happy to say that I've seen not only bobcats in the wild, I've also been fortunate enough to see bears and mountain lions too. My family is a military family and a hunting family. I own hunting rifles, pistols, and even one of those "evil black rifles". So I appreciate the position you take in your description. And though I agree that the VAST majority of misunderstanding about hunting and trapping is unfortunately among those on the left, I would respectfully and politely ask you to reconsider toning down the rhetoric against the left. They are, after all, not the only ones that issue death threats to people. There are lunatics on the right as well lets not forget. We're more divided than ever in this country, and it could end up being the end of the Republic if we're not careful. A democracy where half of the population has an irrational hate or fear of the other half, and vice versa, cannot remain a democracy.
In the last few months you and I have observed thousands of examples of leftists burning businesses, looting stores, mob violence and intimidation assaults on people and police officers assassinated. There is literally no comparison between left wing extremists and right wing extremists in 2020. We are headed for a civil war which I will fight in because my children's and grandchildren's futures are more important than my life. We are beyond the concerns of speech and we need to respond to the violence.
@@petenrock, I appreciate you taking the time to reply. True, I have no argument against what you're saying the left is guilty of. But this is the FAR left, not the normal, average, working center left democrat. I have people in my own family that are center left and they are hunters and anglers and none of them are even the least bit interested in doing anything that the rioters want them to do. These are the fringe at the moment. I do think this ideology is spreading. It's the far left's attempt at a social/cultural coup. It does need to be stopped, but if you think a civil war is the answer, then yes this might stop it, but the republic won't survive such a war. And then what replaces it? I'd rather change tack and get things back to what (at least what I think) is normal. Anyways, good luck to you and yours. Hopefully you won't need it.

In my country, this type of trap is banned for this reason.
It is nice to know that there are still places on our planet where the cruelty against animals is forbidden. America is not one of them.
As much as I hate snares, and as much as I love animals, this is the only way to make a dent in the coyote population. I don't like any animals being killed however coyotes around here almost wiped out small animals, like rabbits, racoons, skunks, Chipmunks, people pets, and even tried to get a child. Something has to be done then.
All kinds of stuff is banned in the EU, including common sense.
@@Bryan-Hensley I live in Nevada , trapping is legal. Don't get caught messing with some ones trap.

Legend says this bobcat is now the proud owner of a tire wrench, work boots, a set of golf clubs, and has now moved into her new 2019 Dodge Ram. The owners walked home bare foot.
Can you educate me on this? I hear trappers say they have filled their tags. Does that mean you've tagged a limit of bobcats? And why would the trap still be active if you have filled your tags? I'm fascinated by this stuff and certainly commend what you are doing to help the species.
Every state has different regulations. In Wisconsin we get a tag or tags for different species and some species are unlimited. As an example, I may have drawn and filled my bobcat tag and still be targetting coyote and catch an incidental bobcat.

For anyone who is curious about the effects of leghold traps, I will paste information from “Literature Review on the Welfare Implications of Leghold Trap Use in Conservation and Research”. This paper is based on research by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Immediate injury - Publications describing trap refinement tend to equate animal welfare with injury alone, so data relating to other considerations is limited. With the use of modern trap designs and improved procedures for setting traps, amputations and bone fractures are becoming more rare; swelling, hemorrhage, and lacerations still occur and post-release survival may be impaired even by relatively minor injuries.
Restraint - Being held and restrained is presumed to be distressing to many wild species, and limb restraint has been shown to cause more stress than cage enclosure for foxes and ferrets. Raccoons seem to have particularly adverse reactions, spending extended periods attempting to escape and having a high incidence of self-mutilation. During restraint animals may die from exertion, predation or adverse climate.
Non-target animals - Traps may capture under-sized animals or unintended species. Reported captures of non-target animals range from 0 to 67% of total catch, but many studies do not fully report non-target catches and outcomes. Capture of some non-target animals can be reduced by selective trap placement or modifying the force necessary to activate the trap or sufficient to break free of the trap. Traps may have a more severe impact on non-target animals; for example, leg hold traps set for coyotes may be more damaging to small birds and animals and raccoons. Surveys of endangered animals such as flightless birds sometimes record high levels of trap injury. Non-target animals can be released from leg hold traps, but their survival may be impaired. More severe injuries may also result with multiple captures of the same animal in catch-and-release situations.
That angry Bobcat was looking for revenge. Escape at that point was the last thing on his mind. He wanted a shot at shredding you.

Absolutely disgusting that people would trap animals, let them be free. It's a sick and sadistic act to trap an animal and have it suffer.
she did hold a grudge. he's lucky he didn't have to deal with her charging them. all in all a good release
After being snared like that for an unknown period of time, the bobcat’s paw is probably extremely sore to say the least, and may even be hungry. It’s unlikely to be in any condition to run or fight, but like with all animals, they feel they need to hide all signs of weakness or else a predator would see it as an easy opportunity to go for the kill.
Before people want to say they are so horrible, let me remind y'all that responsible trappers respect wildlife and release non-target animals, as these men did here. Cruel people will kill any animal caught in their traps, regardless of what animal it is, which is not only disgusting but also against the law in most areas.
Additionally, by tossing the catch pole and tote box at it, what he's doing is keeping the bobcat from associating humans with anything positive. The bobcat doesn't want any bond with humans from the start, of course, but the last thing we want is for this bobcat to wander into an area frequented by humans and be killed out of fear, or exploited in some way.
Please educate me. Did that trap hurt him? Was the trap yours? Thank goodness he's ok. He /she is beautiful!!

This is the most common land trap. There are lots of different "sets" but generally we anchor the trap to the ground and bury it in the soil. We use lure, bait, trap size and manner of setting specific to the animal we are targeting. When the target animal steps on the pan of the trap, the trap closes and secures the paw like handcuffs. Animals such as deer don't have a paw so they just pull their hoof out.

I think the dislikes on this video are from people who didn't read the bio or understand what is happening
Or, It's people who read the bio and still don't understand what the point is in using an animal trap against an innocent wild animal for what reason? Ya they let the bobcat go, but why catch it in their habitat, why invade and hurt them in that way. The bobcat is fine not injured, but if the bobcat did nothing to provoke them then why do that? Just leave the animal alone. I get it if it got stuck in a trap and you're rescuing the animal, but they are purposefully setting up a trap and it's almost tormenting the animal. I am glad the animal wasn't hurt, but please just leave them alone. Especially if you are doing this for entertainment purposes. I'm not hating on anyone, I'm just hoping people will have more respect for wildlife.
@@laradefazio5301 I totally agree, I also think that the period trapped can be very stessful for the animal, and who's to say if one sometime get some kind injury from it. And what if an animal is caught for instance for a period of 5-10 days before released, that will in my opinion extremly stressful for the animal, plus it could suffer long term damage from it. The question is also if some kind of animals trapped in a snare can bite their own leg off.
I notice bobcats stay put for a while after being released from traps. Coyotes, wolves and cougars all take off right after release usually. Are bobcats standing their ground as if to keep an eye the humans? Are they not really aware of their freedom initially? Curious.

Beautiful cat. Tell me, as a 'townie' from UK is that type of trap designed to capture but not harm? If so, why?
It's designed to hold an animal in place until you get around to checking on your trap. If this guy hadn't been "out of tags" (meaning he'd reached the legal limit) he'd have killed the cat. The possibility that damage has been done to the paw is non-zero. There are far better cage style traps designed to capture with zero harm.
