@@spasian720 If you're still having issues try switching your driver type and using the out put in you audio interface Options > Preferences > Audio > Driver type > ASIO Make sure you use the output in you interface or you won't hear anything
With this recording method you'll always record with latency. To lower the buffer size won't solve that problem. The only possible way to record without latency is the following: Dublicate your audio track (with all vst you need for your sound). Set the first track to "Auto" and the second to "Off". Be sure to arm both tracks before recording. Hit record and play tight! After that you can delete track one. Track two was recorded without latency. Voila!
This is silly, because the Auto track will have audible latency. Use direct monitoring to keep track of your timing, and record to a channel that is "off". Bonus points if you use UAD products and can use plugins while direct monitoring/recording ;)
@@ArnaldoMessyDJ yeah, but that’s the thing. If you don’t have that option, them what, don’t record? OPs suggestion works well. Tho I just set the one track to “on” and only arm/record the other.
Dude, thank you so much for this video! I've seen other videos that have missed key steps to getting rid of lag, but after I watched this there's no lag at all now!
Thanks for this excellent resource! I searched google for a few hours and found bits and pieces, but this video was the most comprehensive and specific tutorial for guitar + ableton that I found.
Here's a tip I haven't seen anywhere, MAKE SURE you are using the ASIO driver instead of the direct input from your device. For some reason the latency is muuuuuch less when you put it through that.
@@hat_rack_3400 You might have to go into your icons on the bottom right of your taskbar (If you are on windows), go into asio and make sure it is set to your correct devices input and output.
Why does audacity get fine latency with the onboard driver then? It's literally only Ableton that is causing me to bang my heads together. Also it worked fine forever until I fiddled with the settings to get MIDI working!
The 64 sample rate is what did it for me. But not on my old potato PC. I bought an M1 Mac mini and NOW after a decade I can finally hear audio in a mic or guitar through the computer in real time. This has given me anxiety for such a long time. sigh - - - Thank you.
I'm trying to punch in to a session that has FX and stuff I have them all disabled and it's still a second delay. a brand new session I don't have the latency, what the heck should i do
Finally!! Been trying to solve this for weeks. My latency was by like half a second though. Turns out I have to select DRIVER TYPE: "ASIO" and use the output in my audio interface Focusrite gen 3. I can't use mme/directx and plug headphones into the jack in my computer
spent five hours installing different drivers and dragging a million sliders up and down and all i had to do was click reduced latency while monitoring from the options menu... thank you
Ableton only supports minimum of 32 samples, its for safety reasons so you wouldnt get overloads/crackles. If you cant get lower than certain its because of your audio interface
The only way I can get my latency down is if I lower the sample rate so low that it starts to make a fizzing sound. Also, ableton wont let me go below 256 for the input/output samples. Do you have any recommendations?
If you're still wondering make sure you're using an asio driver as your setting in ableton, if your interface doesn't have one or you are using the computer's onboard audio, download and install a free driver called asio4all (for PC at least) and select that in your ableton settings, also if your interface allows it use direct monitoring (sometimes called zero latency monitoring), that will get rid of latency virtually completely
Awesome, thanks so much! Interesting that my interface had issues with 128 (not just latency..crackling) though 64 works great. Also have an absurd amount of 3rd parties rockin but we still rollin!
First time I encountered that latency, I reduced the delay in settings manually. There’s an icon in right bottom menu under I/O (show delays) and it worked too
yeah me to ill clap to a metronome and then i'll play it back with the metronome and it'll be off but it wasnt like that the first day i used it cuz i recorded a song and it was never off
Can someone please explain to me what ASIO is and how to install it/use it with ableton? I have the beginner ableton and it wont let me edit my latency and i'm so confused and i'm very new to this app pls help.
I thought when you record with in and on auto it will always record that latency. I usually have one track for monitoring and one track to record with monitoring off.
You may have some latency if you have any audio effects on the track you are recording on. Sometimes disabling them entirely isn’t enough to bring that latency down. Many people prefer to just use their interfaces’ zero latency audio input monitoring and set monitoring to Off just like in your case!
For sure, it depends on the effects you want to use. Devices like EQ8, Glue Compressor, Saturator, and Delay will all have near-zero latency but may increase your CPU use. Unfortunately many Third-party plug-ins and effects tend to use a lot more CPU and add more latency for live monitoring. Hope that helps!
Hi I'm desperate to fix my latency issues with my launchpad. I press a key and it lags so bad that i haven't been able to play for 6 month. please please please help me i've watched so many videos and tried a few things but nothing changes. Also I do not have the Hardware setup button and can not change buffering in my settings. I'm austic and really need my music. Please someone kind help me to fix this.? Thank you in advance.

Hey great informative video..I have a question regarding recordings..please answer if you see this..so my question is " I want to put effects like reverb while recording..for that i will have to click "auto" monitoring..but whenever I click "auto" monitoring in ableton..it gives me some milisecond latency..I did my buffer size lowest like 64samples and clicked on reduce latency while recording also...but it still gives me latency..I am recording these days with Off minotoring and using my interface monitoring but in this case I cant put reverb for my vocal recording .what should i do..please help..
Hey, thanks for the comment! As for your question, it depends on the type of reverb device you are using. The default reverb device adds a very small amount of latency. I would strongly recommend using the "Send A" on the mixer to add reverb. You can customize your Reverb effect on the Return A track. Hope that helps!
