The Oxford heated grips are the most common after market solution but I chose to install the Koso Apollo heated grips on my BMW G310GS because they are very high quality and look more like factory heated grips, with the control and display built into the left grip rather than using a separate interface box that's mounted to the handlebars or on the dash. I did need to use a round rasp and coarse sandpaper to remove some material from inside the right heated grip because the baby GS apparently has a slightly larger throttle tube. I strongly advise discarding the tube of cyanoacrylic super glue that is provided and using clear RTV silicone that won't glue your fingers together and has a much longer working time to avoid gluing the heated grip firmly in place when halfway installed. I removed the two screws on the sides of the headlight to wiggle the headlight assembly out of the beak. It seems like it can't be removed that way but it can if twisted just right. After the second time, it's easy. I then wired the heated grips to one of the two accessory ports on the sides of the back of the display. Each of the two connectors can source 7 amps that is switched off and on with the ignition. I did need to buy a special crimp connector on eBay to fit the weird BMW electrical connector. This is a good time to add a dual high power USB charging port to the dash or mounted to the handlebars. I also hid an Invoxia GPS tracker in the beak that's recharged every time I ride, with a six month battery life between charges. Having never ridden with heated grips, I assumed that they'd be a nice luxury that I'd use occasionally. I use them all the time and won't have a bike without heated grips again. I've since made an ultralight heated vest from two car seat heaters and I'll add a heated seat when upgrading to a Seat Concepts seat.
Really awesome work mate. My dealer quoted 3 hours to do the job (but could be less) and it was great to see how much work is involved. Thanks for the tip about heating the switch bracket too. I have a Givi windscreen on mine, and at 172cm (about 5"8 I think) the wind now hits me in half way up the visor. I think I need to cut an inch or so off it to get clean air flow and stability over the whole helmet, or add a deflector to the top of the screen so I'm in a nice bubble behind it. How do you rate the PUIG?
Thanks brother. They quoted me the same. That switch definitely had me scratching my head for a minute there. I’m about 5,8 myself and I find the windscreen pushing most of the wind right over my head. But nothing really helps over 65. My neck really took a beating on my last trip. I’ve been thinking of adding an extension as well just to see if it helps
I believe the first couple years they were not. I could be wrong. But the kit I got was for a 310 and it came with a cable connection for the throttle side heated grip.
@@ADVLARRY How are the vibration levels between 4000 to 6000 rpm, is there any non-audible buzz if you touch the bars? I am thinking of changing the top crash guard, that vibrates at 5000-6000 RPM. Subscribed to your channel, it’s great 👍 Thanks 😊
Wow, this is way more complicated than I thought. And I do not like the wire moving around the throttle. Probably will invest in better cold weather gloves instead.
I don’t have a link for the kit. I actually bought the wrong kit and needed to piece together the corrected throttle. I’ll do some more research and get back to you.
how to you dissemble the throttle? I need to install a new throttle tube, & can't figure out how to remove the fasteners holding it together, They are "push on locking washers" any idea? Thanks
For the past eight years I have had a V-Strom 650 and I could never get up the courage to take the tank off it. I may be better off with something with less plastic.
It’s literal not that hard at all just install lift the tank case up yes and install then neatly place the tank cover back over with the neatly placed wires done
Sorry for my probably negative comment, but when you shoot such video and you show your back to the camera, without showing the actual work for the important details, its overall meaningless.

Picking up a 310gs this summer, but not mechanically inclined like you unfortunately lol. Great vids! Subscribed.

Let me tell you that your bike looks awesome !
Thanks Marc. I do love it. What do you ride??
@@ADVLARRY I have the 40 years 2021. Actually I have a few videos of it in my channel too.
throttle cable ? which model it is ? the newer GS 310 are all equipped with Ride By Wire

Excellent work ! Which is the crash bars you are using?

The phone mount on my bike is the quadlock wireless charger.
Can you share the link from where did you purchase those Tank grip guards?

How do the new grips work with your throttle lock?
Good question. Exactly the same!!
How do you like those tires for highway riding? I have a 310gs on order, and am looking to upgrade the stock tires
Not made for the highway. But for what they are not bad at all. Great in the woods!!
@@ADVLARRY are those 50/50 tires? Do you think it might be more dangerous when you hit the canyons? (Lowside or wobbles)
@@lLooN3y they are 40/60. I had no problem cruising at 60 through the turns. But again they are definitely not a street tire.
A link to those instructions would be greatly appreciated. My kit didn't come with any.
I had to hit up my local bmw service center. They sent me the pdf.
Hi Larry. Can you give us the part number for the “fly by wire” model ???
Thank you

This video may have just talked me out of buying a 310. If it is that complicated just to install heated grips I may not want it.
